    I just got into scindapsus. It took a while to get the care down. My first plant was overwatered before I got it, I tried propagations, all failed, I left it alone till it dried out. There was one vine left with one leaf, I reported it into smaller pot. I bought an exotica, a silvery Ann and water them only when leaves curl. They are growing very happily. I'm propagating silvery Ann in soil, so far so good. I just added Jade satin, one of them has a small sliver of variegation.

    I bought the moonlight and the dark form at the same time and the dark form has grown so much, whilst the moonlight has only grown a few leaves! Both in a conservatory in the UK! Love your videos!

    I Got 2 Pots From Costa Farms... Both Were Full And Trailing. I Like Full And Trailing Plants... BUT So Do The Mealy Monsters... SO Yeah They Went For THEM!!! I Originally Bought One To Use As A Source For Props To Fill Up Some Pots... Liking The Looks Of The Plant Enough I Bought A 2nd Pot. They've Both Been Producing Enough Growth That I've Been Taking Cuttings From Them. I Rooted The Cuttings In Jars Of Perlite And Dosed Their Water With SUPERthrive OR Root & Grow. I Potted The Cuttings Into A 6 Inch Pot Today And Will Be Taking MORE!!!

      costa farms plants come very full and lush and juiced up for 3-6 months. This guy repots his plants two weeks after getting them and seems to be complaining about the soil from the nurseries which is wild lol.

    I got a 2 leaf cutting with like 2 small sections of roots about a couple inches long each and some unrooted nodes. I had it for a while in a takeout container with some of my homemade soil mix, but hadn’t got much growth. About 2 weeks after, I bought crazy keiki paste and decided to try applying it because I read a lot about it being a slow grower. Now, it’s pushing out a new leaf and also has new roots growing. I don’t have any special lights, just feed it with water-soluble fertilizer and keep it on a windowsill. I know it’ll take a while but since I got it for free, so far I have no complaints! It’s mostly for fun n.n

    Many thanks for this very informative video. It’s one of my favorite plants, however, I totally agree with every thing you said and my experience with this plant mirrors your experience exactly. 🙂. I have had mine for just a little over a year and she has been a slow grower. Oddly enough I took 5 cuttings from her about 4 weeks ago and they’re pushing out good roots much faster than I anticipated. I am going to repot her this month and use the soil mix you suggested . Your tips will be immensely helpful when I pot up my cuttings. So glad I found your channel! 👏🪴🥰

    I live in Ontario Canada, my moonlight has almost doubled in size in 8ish months. I changed out the potting mix when i got it, I water with fish tank water and otherwise leave it alone.
    Its not as fast growing as my argryeus but it might be faster than my exotica.

    I’ve had the opposite experience lol, crazy! I’ve had mine for almost a year, it’s still in it’s original big box store pot/cover pot and growing media, maybe just different conditions? I will say, it doesn’t need water as much as my other Scindapsus, but grows about the same. Love your videos! Hi from the US!

      Ahhh a big Hi to the US 👋 that is great to hear that you had such a positive experience with your, stories like these give me hope that some of these that came onto the market where is good conditions, in terms of soil too. Yes definitely environment and growing conditions play a big role on each of our experiences, which is why I love it when you all share yours too, so someone reading this, gets a more rounded opinion 💚🌿

    • @cooloutac
      @cooloutac 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the problem is alot of guys like him want to repot it right away. I suggest just getting a cover pot if you don't like the one it came in lol. Thats the reason they tell you not to repot when you take it home, because there is no reason to and does more harm than good. Plus once you repot there goes any warranty or help from them if you had a chance for that. Also they usually come juiced from the big nurseries so are on steroids for 6 months for you out the box! I have a snake plant sits far from any windows but has slowly put out growth over the past 6 years. Still in the same nursery grow pot it came in. hahah. I water it like once a month. I repot plants only when I have to and don't disturb the root ball, its usually when they are showing signs of stress from being rootbound and I have to water them twice a week. i have a feeling this guy starts yanking his roots around and probably cleans all the dirt off them when he repots too hahah.

    • @bethn9219
      @bethn9219 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cooloutac I tend to repot mine when I bring them home if they’re in a very heavy soil mix. I’ve had too many plants get root rot from staying in the nursery mix which for some reason in my area (southeastern US) tends to be something very dense. I’m honestly not sure what it is. It’s not potting mix. Maybe it’s coco coir? I’ve never used that, so I don’t know. I just know that my plants have to come out of it and they also have to get some mosquito bits in the pot because I will be battling fungus gnats if I don’t. I think the nurseries put the plants in that so they don’t have to water them as often, maybe?

    • @cooloutac
      @cooloutac 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @bethn9219 only time I do that is if there's bugs or something. I find plants I order online they always come with a lot of Pete moss soil and can be full of gnats sometimes. Probably for the same reasons you state about being overly moist in shipping.

    I do love mine, but I agree with everything. There are no mealybugs issues in my collection, however this one has had a couple on it, but we're gone after one treatment (but I did HP dilute the soil)

    Hi Memo! Thanks for poopoo-ing on that plant because you made me check on the state of the cutting I proplifted from a hardware store about a month ago. Upon inspection, there's only 1cm of root, the apex died and there were 3 tiny bugs on it that look like spider mites but I can't really identify them because they move way too fast for me to use my jeweller's loupe, let alone my microscope (so definitely not spider mites). The reason I'm grateful is because this was in one of my propagation boxes, right next to a Spiritus Sancti so I will be extra careful to inspect it in the next days/weeks and that Scindapsus is not going back in there! I'll put it in quarantine for now, might throw it away later if things don't pick up..!

    Strongly agree that a moisture meter is best with this plant, all plants really. As for mealy bugs, I have two practices sometimes it's an alcohol misting to attack all the visible bugs and the ones I can't see. The second is with neem and essential oils more as a maintenance measure. The essential oils are to repels them, for example rosemary, clove, peppermint, spearmint, and eucalyptus oils. I'll also throw in some growth oils like lemongrass, geranium, and frankincense. The recipe is whatever you use for the neem oil ratio for the amount your making and then add one or two drops of each essential oil. That's my two cents for what it's worth.

    Everything he said is true. I’ve had mine less than a year and my ZZ grows faster. I have not had pests…yet. I did have a previous one that I damaged and tried to propagate. Huge fail. Fortunately, in the US you can get a full pot for about $20. I love the way it looks now and consider new growth a bonus. If you love new growth get almost any other Scindapsus. IMO

    I got one of the costa farms pots last summer. It wasn’t the biggest and they seem to offer larger ones now. It didn’t grow well in the peat mix. I moved it to chunky aroid and gave it a pole and it is growing much better. No pests. I get about a leaf a month on each growth tip. No super slow but slower than argeryus(?). It has to be tied to the pole not really getting much arial roots. Leaves are not sizing up as I would expect from climbing. I agree it wants less light than I’d expect, mines below an east window getting more light as it climbs in 70% humidity. I water with rain water when the leaves curl a bit. I use weekly weakly liquid fertilizer year round. Hope this helps others. Thank you for doing this series!

    i thought it would want more light based on its silvery leaves but i found that mine started growing quickly after i had pulled it away from my east facing window. i also had it outside on a north facing balcony last summer and it grew consistently.

    I got 2 single leaf cuttings in April and they rooted fairly well in water. I potted them a week ago (fortunately in my usual chunky mix), and now I've seen this video I'm worried but keeping my fingers crossed. 1 month ago I finally found a one leaf cutting of a Dark Form. I'm trying perlite but it hasn't done anything yet so I might move it to water. I'm scared to move it :P

    Had mine for just under a year now and totally agree with all that you've shared! slow-growing checked, mealy bugs double checked! And the mealy bugs are also attracting small ants. Will I get this plant again....same as you, probably not. I am enjoying it's cousin, Scindapsus pictus exotica, very much for it's bigger leaves, faster growth and pest free, although I do prefer the glossy look of the trebuii moonlight.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awww a fellow sufferer, I feel your pain with the mealey bugs. Yeah now that the temps are getting warmer it will attract ants as the pets generate a sweet substance and then the ants end up protecting the pests from predators as the pests provide the ants with food 😬

      where did you get yours from?

  • @Draculiana
    @Draculiana 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought the dark form in February and it tanked almost imidiatly after arriving. It was a long stem with a few leaves and i propagated them once when it arrived and the second time when it got root rot. It had a nice aroid mix but i think that the pot was to big for that cutting, it wasn't really wanting to dry. I am still quite new to plants and i thought that the shop would know better then me, since then i learned i should trust my instincts and i repot imidiatly if i think it is needed.
    The first props are now in soil and pushing new leaves and the others are still in water or sphagnum (they are growing nice roots but the original leaves yellowed fast, so sphagnum seems easier since it can hold the prop better)
    I like the Dark form a lot but i will skip the Moonlight, mine gave me already enough work :)

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awww thanks for sharing, I have heard similar stories on the dark form, which is what is putting me off getting one, as the dark form was the one I really wanted to get, but settled for the moonlight, but like you mine has given me enough work already.

    I live in the USA and our Local Big Box Store have lots of them, but they all had lots of Black Spots on them and look Diseased. Not sure why, but they had them all bunched up together on lower shelves where they could Not receive any light and Not enough airflow for the plants either. So I decided Not to purchase one and decided on a Neon Pothos instead.
