Thank you for the video, super informative as always! 💚 I have a piper and I'm growing it in my living room in about 50 - 60 % humidity and it's happy and growing fine so far. To me it seems to be quite easy to care for. I agree that it does not tolerate drying out too much and I water it often. One of my favorite plants, so pretty and rewarding 💚
I have my P. Sylvaticum in household conditions. 18° during the winter and obviously warmer in the summer (UK). Humidity rarely above 50 in the winter, 65ish during the summer. East facing window. It's doing okay. Undoubtedly it would grow faster if it were warmer but I rather like its growth habit in these conditions, mostly that the internodal spaces are much shorter than yours (approx. 3-4cms) and it's tending to shingle up its moss pole. Over time this has become one of my favourite plants :-) The photos I've seen of mature plants in the wild show it in quite shady surroundings, though many pipers seem to like a lot of light, so I shall continue to play with light levels for a while yet!
I killed my first Piper Crocatum because I treated it for what I thought were pests but it’s just something the plant does with the white spots and dew drops ! I ordered a second now tfs A lesson learned the hard way and it was 50$ but I got one on sale now ☺️it must me delicate if my treatment killed it .
Actually piper sylvaticum is like your any vining plants. You can propagate it through the nodes and yes they are also strippers (need pole)😅. However, based on my experience they grow more fibrous roots rather than thick roots like photos. I let them climb on my moss pole and let them crawl on my diy vertical soil.

The reason I ask is my new tiny leaves are somewhat deformed - but then you mention that the leaves do take a while to grow in size. Overall I love this plant and learning tips and tricks to keep it growing happily. Thanks
I have the crocatum. Vigorous grower! Leaves come in green and hot pink, fade to bubble gum pink, and then more green with pink. I tried water propping - rotted super quick. Trying moss now. Mine is staked, but will soon outgrow the cabinet, so I might try your trellis set-up! I pulled it out of the cabinet to live in the house, and it wasn’t super happy. Still, I highly recommend the crocatum!

I purchased two pipers(crocatum)and had them shipped. One survived and it doing wonderfully the other promptly died. I've learned over time since then that the are very poor shippers and very sensitive. Yours looks lovely, if I come across this variety I will get it!
My plant store had 4 for sale and I wanted to buy two. They were $50 each. I knew nothing about this plant, (nor did the plant store) and the first thing I saw was it was covered in white crystals and black dots which I of course I thought were pests, probably spider mites. So the store discounted the plants to $12 dollars which was great as I knew I could treat them and they would be fine. Now thanks to bloggers like this one, I researched the plant and have a lot more knowledge about them.
Awwwww wow amazing story!!!! yeah so many people see the extrafloral crystals and think they are pests as not many other plants do that. I hope your plants are growing amazingly for you too

Managed to save some cuttings took a while to get roots and are still in water and some in moss till now. The trauma of moving it to soil is real😅
Does the piper sylvaticum do well in lechuza? I bought one in soil and took some cuttings. I hope to move the cuttings to Lechuza when it is rooted. There is no information whatsoever about the piper in lechuza. Would be awesome to hear from you.
I've just bought one of these awaiting fir it to arrive. Thanks for the tips on how to grow it successfully. I have 3 types of piper including piper nigrum and piper chaba. I too would like to get the piper crocatum which us a bit more expensive and harder to find.
I bought this plant on the back of listening to you on Jane Perrone’s on the ledge podcast! It was a small plant. I originally had it growing up a moss pole in a warm south facing lounge with a humidifier. The new growth rotted out. So I took all the moss away and repotted it in aroid mix in a clear orchid pot, mulched with budgie grit and pushed a drift wood branch in for it to climb up. After a couple of months, it regrew new shoots and has taken off! It is happily growing in my cold bedroom about six feet away from a north facing window. It’s pushed out three new leaves in the last two weeks (October ‘22) and the leaves are getting very big very fast! Humidity is unknown, but I would imagine around 50%. It didn’t seem to like 75% humidity. Can’t see any pests! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Actually, these are pretty difficult to propagate. Just sticking them in water won't work- tried countless times. I'll try with moss as soon as it gets some new growth for me to cut.

I find crocatum much easier to grow especially in low humidity and definitely easier to propagate

I bought it thinking it is a trailing plant - does it have to be wrapped around the frame?
