    Paul, this is probably one of the best golf videos I have ever watched. I went to the range today and tried this, could not believe how easy it was to make great contact and how far the ball went. In fact, it was working so well, I decided to take it to the course and shot my best score of the year. I was crushing it off the tee and my irons were true. It even helped when I was chipping. Best of all, carried my bag for 18 holes and my back didn't hurt after the round. Brilliant!!!

    Thank you Paul for saving my golf life and my back! My back started to pain because I was trying to hit the balls so hard with my arms that it was hurting m back. Then I found your videos and I started doing your drills about two weeks ago. At first it was tough to let go of the sensation of hitting the ball hard, but the more I practiced a relax, loose wrist swing, the further and the better I hit the ball. It's amazing how effortless my golf swing became the less I try to hit the ball hard. Now I just tell myself to relax, use my body, loose wrist and do not try to kill the ball with my arms. My back pain is gone. Thank you! Keep up the great work Paul!

    Paul I can’t thank you enough for this video. Time and time again I come back to it and remind myself how to get my clubhead speed back to where it needs to be. 2 years ago I went to get fitted for a new set of irons for my birthday and could barely break 92mph. Today I’m doing this drill in my living room hitting balls into a net and am struggling to get BELOW 92mph lol! What an amazing difference this drill can make when done repeatedly over time. Now flirting with a single-digit handicap at a 9.2 index the last review...just need to get that long ball in play a little more often! Thanks for the videos!

Either way they are great at their craft. Keep it up, Paul! You've taught me everything about the wrist action and slowing down. Thanks.

    Let me tell everyone! I have been using Paul Wilson's "Easy Swing" for the last two years and I have been playing the best golf of my life and hitting it farther. Listen to him! It makes perfect sense. Take a look at Ernie Els swing, he does that same thing. In fact, when I stray from Paul's teachings I get in trouble. Those arms and shoulders want to get back into it. You have to tell them no! Thank you Paul Wilson! You are the best!

    Hi Paul, I watched this video a while ago, tried the tip and couldn't really feel it, you were right, this was hard to do so I quickly stopped. Today after warming up I gave it an honest try again....slow down!! I slowed things down, full swing, 2/3 power. For me, on this first session, I had about same distance results (or better on a couple) as when I was 'trying to hit it hard and far' except for one thing, they all went straight! 3 in a row, 5 in a row, 10 in a row. I couldn't believe it, it felt so easy. I was almost in disbelief! Great great tip! Thank you much for posting!

    Paul, started doing this awhile ago and worked a treat but began to bring arms into swing again. After watching your videos again it reminded me of what I needed to do!
    Back to swinging my arms with my body with crazy good results again. It is bloody simple. My arms just go along for the ride again. No thinking about backswing or forward swing again. It’s just bloody so natural and effortless like you say!

    I just started playing again after a seven year break from the game. Started going back down the range and was getting nowhere. I found Pauls videos and progress has come back into my game. I go out and apply the easy swing and find it works great even if my putting lets me down. The difficulty for me is im a victim of my own success because when i start to hit the ball well i get over confident and start to hit it to hard again. Not using the arms so much is hard but Paul is right and this works, thanks Paul your tips are helping me a lot

    Binged on your vids Paul. I've taught golf for 47 years and gave it up a year ago. You remind me of me at a much younger age and I appreciate how simple you make it for your students. I tried to do the same and my entire way of teaching revolves around one thing. Take them down the road I wanted them to go but let it seem to be their idea. People can learn faster when it's their idea, my job was keep them on the road so they could find their idea. Love your work, it's much appreciated from a former teacher, you make it simple. Cheers and have a great
    Week. Now back to your vids.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you like the tips. I like your perspective. I kind of do this in the sense I am going to explain it so it is brain dead simple. I need themt o hit a few great shots with nothing. After some good ones they will want to turn off their arms. This doesn't always work though. Human nature is telling them to hit the ball and hit it hard plus they have hit for so many years not hitting feels weird and different. My students are typically only here for 2-3 hours for one or two days so time is of the essence. I can't wait for the lightbulb to go off. So it's kind of like the movie Inception. If I can at least plant the seed then when they get home they will have the lightbulb moment. Simple is a huge key though. If they don't get it they will never do it. 47 years. wow. I'm at 30 not sure I will make it that long.

    • @Wooduck
      @Wooduck 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulwilsongolf yea you will make it Paul, you love what your doing but I must say everything comes to an end sooner or later. I will be 70 in a few days and still move the ball out there 260 plus with a 3/4 backswing. Played today and shot one under, so can't complain much about my golf motion at all.
      The way you teach and the so called Tips as you call them is how I've played golf most of my life. Yea I tinkered with other methods off and on for obvious reasons but I always returned to what my dad taught me as a kid, a lazy swing. The more lazy I got the better I struck the ball, once the arms become tight the motion goes straight to hell. Thanks for all your Tip vids they brought me back to my youth and verified that what I had learned many years ago works. Great channel will be watching all your stuff.

    Paul, wish I had known about these drills 30 years ago. Played a lot in my 20s, but I was terribly inconsistent and gave the game up for 20 years. Bought new GI clubs a year ago to give it another try but almost gave up again ... until I found your videos. Cannot believe what these drills have done for my ball striking. I honestly take the easiest swing that I can and the ball flies off the face and lands where I am aiming at least 75% of time now versus 33% (at best) before. A range session of 100 balls used to exhaust me, and my arms would be so sore, (especially my fingers!) the next day that I couldn't play again for several days. Sure I still hit bad shots - who doesn't -- but far, far fewer bad shots than before. My Handicap dropped from 30+ to 20 this summer (my short game still stinks), but golf is FUN now; in fact, it is addictive when you can hit the ball high and far, CONSISTENTLY. Can't thank you enough!

  • @Andrumen01
    @Andrumen01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started playing when I was 14 years old (20 years ago). I was one of the longest hitters in my group, but was inconsistent, out of 100 balls I could not hit more than 20 or 30 with a good and swift feeling. Due to time constraints I had to quit the game at 20 years old. My final playing handicap was 21 before I stopped playing. About a month ago I started playing again and I thought I would never get my old swing back and the nice feeling of hitting a ball without feeling "the wack" every time I struck the ball. I found this video 3 days ago and gave it a try today at the practice range. I have to be honest, I almost cried out of happiness when I managed to hit at least 45 out 60 balls with a pleasant feeling. Best of all, I managed to hit my current driver; since I got my current driver, at age 17, I had not hit it as I did today.
    I want to thank Paul and his team for making this video, great job!

    Paul's method is so revolutionary that it is difficult to comprehend and execute. Because, our body instincts says just the opposite . When you swing slowly using your body with the arms turned off the ball flies hot, and you did nothing! You just feel the weight of the club head. The devil is in the downswing when the hands try to out-swing the body defying your mind. Practice and educated body muscle memory is the key. The mantra is soft wrists, hand and body.
    Miraculous.

    Paul.....Just started using your method and tips this year. Only been able to play 4 rounds so far and haven't been able to practice it on the driving range yet. Just wanted to say that you have completely p*ss*d off the other three guys in my weekend foursome. :) We all used to drive the ball within 5 yards of each other pretty consistently. Now I'm out driving them all by 20 plus yards. Eventually I'll point them to your lessons but for now it's too much fun with them trying to figure where I gained the extra yards. Can't wait to get to the driving range to do some fine tuning and try to pick up a few more yards. Thanks for the lessons.

    Paul, I have been a student of yours for about a year (well virtual student that is) and I find your teachings very helpful. I played baseball most of my childhood into High School and a lot of softball as well. I find what your teaching is very similar to a baseball swing. Please don't shoot me for saying that :) However, to hit a baseball effectively you must lead with your body and your arms and hands follow. In baseball, your hands must be soft and fluid and if not - good luck hitting the ball. So thank you for helping me connect the two swings. I hit the golf ball much further now and without killing my back. Unfortunately when I first started playing golf in my late twenties - which was XX years ago, I went with the traditional methods of learning golf and it did more harm than good.
    Thank you.

    Paul, I found when I hit more than a dozen range balls with my normal swing my left TFL (hip) got really sore. Not sure why but I've always been trying to snap the hips through first and swing the arms hard second. And I was always tense, everywhere, wrists, arms, back....So I tried this drill with my driver yesterday...made it through an entire bucket of balls with no pain! For me it wasn't about just keeping the wrists loose but my arms too, just leg my arms and shoulders relax as if they were pieces of string gripping the golf club and turned my hips first on the way down. Amazing how the clubhead snapped through the hitting zone and the ball jumped off the face albeit I didn't hit anything past about 170y. But now I finally get it! Gonna keep doing this drill

Paul explains the complete process of the swing in understandable and practical ways. He goes through grip, set-up, takeaway, backswing, downswing, follow through, etc. If you commit to his instruction, I guarantee you will be amazed. After much practice, even without hitting a ball, it clicked with me and I have seen significant improvement. I strongly recommend you give it a try, but you have to be committed to what he teaches. Paul, years ago I remember hearing Johnny Miller say that the downswing was just a gravity move. He got the idea from talking with Nicklaus. Do you think he was advocating the same thing you are teaching? Can you explain what the feeling in the arms is like with the bodyswing? Wouldn't the arms feel like they were being pulled by the body instead of just falling from gravity?

    Someone taught me what he called the "100 yard swing" about a decade ago and within a couple hours of doing it I was hitting the ball way farther and way straighter with ease. It is a very similar technique as in this video, but I imagine the technique in this video is probably even more effective because you aren't even shortening the length of the swing. Unfortunately I let myself get away from that recently and my swing has gone to crap, but fortunately I found this video and I can start to work that effortlessness back into my swing again.

    • @paulwilsongolf

      Need to go back to it when you feel you are getting fast. Once the arms let go and stop trying to kill it add a little more legs and hips for full power.

    Hello Paul, thanks for all your videos which have been of great help to improve my golf swing. It works perfectly on the range, but I seem to forget everything as soon as I step onto the golf course. I start topping almost immediately, try to slow down to 50%, try to imagine I'm still on the range, ... it seems as if I lose all confidence and fall back into old routines and mistakes. So I just wanted to ask if there is a video to help me understand what happens on a "real" round and what I can do to fight it. Best regards from Germany

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are thinking of hitting the ball out there. You cannot do this. When you hit hard you do so with your arms. This is why I tell people to swing at 50% out there. Plus, you are probably trying too hard. This is new and different and you need to at least try it. So here is what you do:
      Taking it from the range to the course: you need to go out by yourself with 3 extra golf balls in your pocket. Don't keep score. Swing no more than 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change? With driver, you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets, your thought is to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Irons, I would be taking one more club and trying to hit the center of the green not the pin. Swing smoothly. Throughout the round you could be doing practice swings holding the club in the air hinging and rehinging to keep the wrists loose and other times you can be holding it in the air firing your legs and hips so you get used to the feeling of using them as the power source not the arms. Do this for a few rounds by yourself until you get used to a new way of swinging. Right now, if you play with others you will think distance and you will revert back to your old swing. It is all about doing something new. It takes a little time to get used to it. Also, don't forget to do daily practice swings at home.

    • @jerrycoile338
      @jerrycoile338 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You talk and make this look so easy. It’s almost lackadaisical with your swing. I’ve been playing for about 15 years and I’ve heard all the quick tips to hitting the golf ball so effortless like hitting down on the ball, pinch the ball off the ground, hit the back of the ball, look in front of the ball, and you get the idea, someone always has a term they use in describing how to strike the ball properly. I of course have tried them all but, a term I don’t think I’ve ever heard is “scooping the ball off the turf”. Isn’t that really all you are doing......plus all the mechanics of the swing must be adhered to in order to strike the ball more consistently? I mean I’ve honed my swing down pretty well and I’ve been told I have a beautiful golf swing however, that doesn’t always translate to consistently striking the ball well. For years I’ve insisted on getting my golf swing as close as possible to look like the pros does. People would say “I just need to hit the darn ball and forget all that other stuff! I say hogwash! I believe in the proper mechanics all coming together as one to resemble the golf swing of a professional because 95% of them all have that basic type swing action and are successful. Now of course I know there is more to golf in order to have the whole package such as chipping, putting and which club to use and when but, there are some ugly golf swings out on the course and yet they play within themselves and sometimes have low scores. Anyway, getting back to the term I brought up about “scooping “ ,.......to me it makes more sense in describing what you are trying to accomplish with an iron because of their various club head angles. I’ve been able to hit some amazing iron shots by approaching the swing that way, using my body’s big muscles for power and letting my arms stay basically loose in my swing. Now.....it feels awkward sometimes and the shot might not come off as planned but, when everything in my stance, swing, motion, shifting my body weight etc. all comes together with my swing having the proper amount of lag in my arms, it is an amazing feeling! Why is it that you seldom ever hear that term (scooping), when someone is teaching you how to approach the golf swing? It makes sense to me if I’m doing everything else correctly.

  • @gregburgin1210

    I tried this drill on the range yesterday and I learned a lot from it. I have a hard time breaking my wrists because my swing has always gone out of control on the way down when I take the club anywhere near parallel at the top. The thing I discovered is that without sufficient wrist cocking at the top it was impossible to do this slow swing without my arms taking over to generate some speed. So I pushed my comfort zone by breaking my wrists as much as possible at the top and all the sudden this "slow" swing started to work. It just showed me its possible to think you're doing a full swing when you're not due to insufficient wrist cock.

    I found your video a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly. No arm swing basically. I shot my best rounds ever.... then...I went for a club fitting. They got me hitting about 60 balls (this was after playing 18 holes really well with 37 points). What happened next? Completely lost the body swing. Started hitting and didn't realise what I was bedding in. Last 2 rounds have been terrible. I know now that I have to keep your video close by to remind myself how loose as a goose I have to be. Another great explanation Paul. I tried this before, and couldn't believe just how far the ball went. I understand what you mean when you say that people find this difficult. It was like a voice in my head saying 'well that's not going to work' even when I could see how far it was going. I've started doing this again, just trying to swing at 1/2 speed and again I've found not only how far the ball goes, with all clubs, but also how much more consistent it was and the sound of the ball coming off the sweet spot. Hitting it pure is such a wonderful sensation. Thanks Paul.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Glad you liked it. Yes, this was the whole point. As people try it they start to hit it just as far (if not farther) that when the were swinging hard. If someone sees they can do it then why keep hitting? There is no return for the effort they are putting into it. Consistency is the other benefit because you are not manipulating the mass. Just let it go and it will repeat.

    I think I can speak for many older golfers out there who have been thrashing at the golf ball for over 40 years or more, but now technology showing us in how not to and how to relax! So we do this relaxing on the practice range and we are all excited in taking this new swing to the golf course, only to end up thrashing at that ball after the second hole! We have technology, but the brain has not changed over these years, it is programmed to hit full force at this wee golf ball! So how do we retune the brain?
    This relaxing swing is fabulous, but it is so hard to implement this to the brain as it is programmed to the old swing!
    I get your drift Paul, but I and many others have been swinging the golf club for over 40 years now without any interruptions
    I am sure your video will help many a young man/woman, but us old guy's are stuck in what we have!
    Any suggestions to the older generation would go down a treat Paul! Golf is my life and am sure most older gents like myself think the same way, we get out of the way from being in the way at home and we all want a scratch score, in our dreams
    I am sure we could achieve this if we could get our body/brain to except this relaxing golf swing of yours, it makes sense, but to implement it constantly within a round would be astonishing!
    Many thanks for your input Paul, fabulous video and tips throughout your videos in which I tune into most days!

      You do the drill in this tip. Keep doing it until you are good at it. This will loosen the arms and get you swinging easier. Then you work on the body for more power. If you keep doing the same thing when do you ever change. So do something different. Everyone wants everything immediately. Give it time and actually work on it. This means you may not hit great shots for a little while but who cares. You are trying to change something. I taught an 86 year old the other day and he had no problems doing it. You can do it.

Seems counter-intuitive but by slowing down, taking the arms out of it and just using hips to power through, there was not a significant decrease in clubhead speed compared with the usual full-on whack. I already know when I reach for one of them, it's going to be bad...It's all between the ears I guess..I won't give up!!

      Paul, I'm going back to work at this tomorrow. I WILL get this. I'm almost 59 and have played this great game since I was 13. However in my teenage years, I didn't take it seriously. It was about my mid 30s when I started putting forth the effort. However in 2006 I ruptured the L4 &L5 in my back and they wanted to fuse it together and I said no. The doctor told me then you better quit playing golf. So I did until last year, I bought a new set of clubs and was swinging slow and kinda decent. Even got my 1st hole in one. 170 yard, 6 iron. It caught up to me and I had back surgery this past December to correct 3 bulging disc's. Now I feel great and my doctor gave me 100% clearance to play again. Now I want and need your swing.

      I like the fact you started as a kid. This is huge advantage because you would have learned to use your legs and hips. I have taught countless people who took a break from golf. When they get back into it they always hit. This is due to human nature telling you to hit the ball. So we just have to get the arms turned off and get using the legs and hips again. As far as playing pain-free it is easy to do. Taller set up is a big key. Like short stop position. Not too tall but not bent way over. See the swing as coiling and uncoiling. Allow you head to move a little going back instead of keeping it too still. Hitting with the arms is the real cause of back pain. You are doing a violent move all locked up as as you loosen the arms you will feel the body which will then get rid of any pain.

    I'm using a 30 year old set of Ping Eye 2 clubs that had hardly ever been used by its original owner. Just sat in the garage all that time.
    Are these clubs still any good, or do I need to get a new set?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well back in the day these were great clubs. People still want to use them to this day. The newer clubs are a little longer and have less loft. So your 6 iron is a 7 iron now. Finally, I can't remember the year but those clubs had illegal grooves at one point. So you can keep using them if you want. I tell people to just get a set of 2-3 year old top of the line irons off of ebay. Can't go wrong.

    Paul..
    I think another reason many people struggle with this drill (i.e. me) is because at the top of our back swing when were coiled up really tightly into a spring, going 60% with a full backswing has the feel like were trying to slow down the release of stored energy ....Almost analogous to releasing a rubber band after its been fully stretched but then trying to release it at 60%....In the process of thinking "slow it down" tension and arm swinging take root.... PROBABLY have to do it a couple more weeks!..

    Paul, for a 90 mph swing speed, if we hit it 2/3 distance, how fast should the swing speed be? I want to practice this in the living room with a swing speed monitor, thanks!

      Excellent. So keep 50% in your mind as you go to play. Stick to that level until you get used to it. Keep in mind I am putting a lot of effort into it. It's just coming from my legs and hips not my hands and arms.
