This and Paul Wilson. Effortless golf swing, so much lag and super power! I can't wait to go to the range tomorrow. My iron game is money, driver game is being worked on.
If you want to laugh check out the channel lock by atomic gollf, that’s just one of many made up golf nonsense I ever seen…this is gold though…up there Mr Malaska…
This is probably the best swing lesson I have received in over 50 years of playing the game. As I got older, now 73, my distance continues to decrease. The catapult technique has me back getting the distance close to where I was ten years ago. I have been able to go back to the regular tees after the last few years at the seniors. Golf has become enjoyable again. Thank you very much Sir.
I found this tip just before a boy's golfing trip to Spain in early November and it worked wonders for me, adding a good 30 yards to my average drive and I managed to hit my first ever drive in excess of 300 yards, albeit the hole was very slightly downhill and I had a helping tailwind. Listen to the man, he knows what he's talking about.
I used this method on my round on Saturday morning and it made a huge difference with respect to the accuracy and distance of my drive. I did initially feel like I was giving up a bit of control but the release of the tension in my grip naturally released the club head. Thanks Danny for this video you have helped me. Can you address how/if this concept can be applied to the iron play.
I stumbled across this same technique by trial and error a few years ago. I had started swinging again after a few teenage attempts with little success 50 years ago. I'm 65 now. I hit a thousand balls at a free driving range before I finally started what I called "throwing the club" at the ball to generate more power...because I had none. It totally changed my swing for the better. I also was watching the Olympics and noticing how effortless the women's swings were. So now I swing as smoothly as possible with the idea of speed on the downswing and throwing the club, or catapulting it, and have very consistent and semi-long drives. Certainly much better than anything I had before. So, it's super cool to see this video and to have "my" technique validated.
I discovered this method for swinging the golf club a couple years ago. I completely agree with the methodology you use and the idea behind it. Its more of a trebuchet turned upside down but your subscribers get the idea. The most important thing for anyone reading this is to understand that you are releasing tension in the arms on the take away. Love your explanation and presentation, Great video!
Danny, this video is the final coffin for my nasty driver slice. I have watched several of your videos about how to set up the driver How to do an inside swing How to properly turn Did watch and followed all of these and the nasty slice was still standing strong, then i finally found this video of yours. "LET GO" "HEAR THAT SOUND?" It was so hard for me to let go because i wanted control, but when i did, it was so effortless. Easy 200+ yards down the range. Motion so fluid. It just felt good. I felt "FREE". FREEDOM from my tense swing and slice. From the bottom of my heart, thank you ❤
Genius, hit my driver further than ever at the range tonight. You break down the swing so well and your instruction is very easy to understand. Thanks Danny!
This video has changed my driving game for life. Thank you! It really opened my eyes, and one of the key things for me was allowing myself to feel out of control (at least it does at first) and allowing myself to screw up as many shots as it took (at the range) in order to get the feeling down. I hate messing up so badly that I stuck with what I knew, which felt "safe" and just made excuses for it. The next was moving my axis of rotation to the center my body and not around my lead shoulder which allows the catapult to happen. I always pulled my driver through from the butt, so I could never REALLY square up the face to path. As an added benefit to straight and reliable drives that I can now choose a line for, I'm swinging easier and my body is feeling MUCH less abused. Hope this comment summarizes a few things and helps whoever is reading it! Bombs away!
Watched this video in the morning whilst having my breakfast before work. Went straight to the driving range from work and applied what I could remember and my drive was 10x better! A good 50+ plus yards on some occasions! Thanks for the tips 👍🏻
Bonjour Danny, I am from Drummondville,Canada. I am 78 and if find that your instructions are easy to understand and practice. Merci beaucoup et Bonne Journée!
Ever since a (bad) golf instructor accused me of "flipping the club," I've been trying to steer it through the swing. As a result, my drives are about 200 yards, with every other club correspondingly short on distance. I'm looking forward to practicing this catapult method. Really excellent video.
Having virtually given the game away for a few years when on a handicap of 7 and @ 63 years of age having resumed playing again early this year, it has been a frustrating time to get my game near my old handicap. I always did have a fairly relaxed swing and mostly hit driver mostly straight with a little draw but could not find it again no matter how hard I tried. Earlier this week after a nice holiday and in a relaxed frame of mind I shot 8 over with 2 x 3 putts thrown in, so absolutely agree with you that an almost carefree approach works. A relaxed mind and body is a good start to better golf. I am delighted by the content and timing of your video which gives encouragement to work further on my irons and putting game. Cheers from OD
Years ago, an instructor told me about Gary Player recommending "releasing at the top." I didn't really understand it at the time, but when I watched this video and applied what you talked about today, I totally get it now, or at least I think I do in that you have to absolutely release the tension in your wrists, especially at the top of your swing; otherwise, you won't create lag. And you were right... It felt incredibly "wristy" to me at first, but once I got the timing down (and slowed my motion to allow the club to come around), wow! What a difference! Thanks so much!
Not me, I tend to tighten my wrist and fingers right before impact in hopes the ball flies 400 yards, but I'll cut my practice swing out, I think another factor that could help, is to not watch a big hitter hit before me
Yes Danny. Tried softening my grip and loosening my swing at the range today and it was night and day. Felt counter-intuitive at first then really noticed how the speed through the shot naturally increased. The reduction of "pushing" the ball through also helped stop slice on my drives. An interesting and revelatory day. Cheers!
Thank you Danny this video coupled with the "up down and around" video has given me a completely different swing thought. It has encouraged me to relax more at setup, giving me a feeling of a more powerful swing with less effort. Great instructions Sir, thank you.
Tell you what Danny, you're onto a winner with this relaxed grip and catapult combo. I've found it so easy to introduce this to my game over my last two rounds. The reduction in tension and freedom in the turn is a game changer, with a more penetrating ball flight and resulting increase in distance. Impressive.
Great lesson! I just recently picked up on this from a Mark Crossfield video where he talks about feeling like you throw away the wrist angles early. As you do, he says it’s a feeling, not what really happens. I’m 76 and this really works. For me, I have to focus on holding the club mostly in the fingers with soft wrists. Doing this has added 20 yards to my drives but it also helps the club square up and take extreme curves out of the shot. Still working on iron play. Thanks for the lesson.
Danny's videos are the simplest and most understandable golf videos I've watched. Definitely worth time to watch them and learn. Thank for sharing your knowledge of the game.
I agree 100% with this video. I’ve been telling people the same thing. The stiffness that I see in people at the range is mind-blowing. They are trying so hard to do “the proper swing technique” but it’s making the swing so unnatural.
I tried this method yesterday and could not believe how much more distance and accuracy I achieved. I shot a very easy 38 and increased my distance by 30 yards with less effort. Thank you Danny for your awesome instruction. Greetings from the USA
Danny, thank you SO much, I feel like this lesson is so fundamental in helping us all understand how the tour get their club head speed and how the hips/body move in response to the club. What a lightbulb moment! Thank you again, legend!
Danny, thanks to you I had one of these really rare "breakthrough moments". I work hard on my swing, see a pro, watched 100s of videos and still shoot my driver 190 yards on a good day, average around 180. Then, after watching several versions of your "catapult" video, tonight I went out to my backyard hitting net with my trusty SC300 - and boom, I shot about 10 drives in a row over 200 yards (max 235)! That in combination with how easy it felt just renewed my addiction to golf. The shocking part is that you explain it in two minutes and I could convert it to action... after not getting it from dozens of your fellow instructors! Happy to share a "before and after" as soon as I record my new self!
Hi Danny with the new reverse engineer method you helped me develop for my self; the catapulting of my club and the feeling I am releasing my club early with my trail hand come easier for me then ever before. And yes, you and John Henby of Australia who also advocates for the feeling of early releasing of the club has catapulted my game to a new height. Since golf was invented in the Middle Ages when Leonardo DaVinci was born I would imagine he may have been among the first people on earth to try a game of golf. After all he was an inventor of machinery and one of the first to study the body as well. People should understand that you are not teaching as other PGA instructors might teach; but, as far as I am concern you are one of the best. Thanks.
Great advice. I had a teaching pro tell me basically the same thing back in the 1980’s and it made a huge difference in my drives. I was hitting line drives with a 10 degree loft Taylor Made driver about 250 yards. Doing what you say added 25 to 30 yards and I was hitting the drives about as high as a full swing with a 9 iron. Breaking the wrists early also made me a lot more accurate with the shorter irons and got my pitching wedge up to about 140 yards at a full swing. Love the channel and the advice.
I needed this! I went to a golf store who wouldnt fit me for clubs due to me hitting my drivers same distance as my mini driver. They said to come back when better launch angles and power happens. I think this just might be what I was looking for all along!
Great Video Danny. Watched it this morning and went straight to the range. Added 20 yards in less than 10 balls. The catapult visualisation helps so much. I normally come over the top and although I square the face I struggle to to create adequate launch angle. This does it all! Increased ball speed and higher launch. Broke the 300y mark on several occasions! Thank you.
I like it. Thank you!! Just one suggestion. I think Danny should also emphasize another main important key of the catapult effect. It is the action of the left leg that needs to be properly straightened with the hip turn around the impact.
Brilliant- way more fun - got me enthused enough to be running up hills pushing the cart on our 7 mile home course, catapulting driver to 250, 3 wood to 210; I used to have trouble getting above 80 MPH on club head speed in the past....much appreciation!!
I tried this at the course yesterday with very few warm up swings before the first tee. First rate results!!! The key for me was turning my hips through fast enough to stay ahead of the faster club head. I hit 2 of my greatest shots of all time with my 3 hybrid and 3 wood
Many Pro teachers would call that casting the club. You are proving them wrong. Holding onto the club too firm and not letting it release is what is causing so many golfers to push and flip the club. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Thank you Danny. With thousands of golf instructions on TH-cam, I find yours the most useful and precise. I understand your explanations and enjoy watching all your other instructional videos.
Talofa lava again Danny, Paul Faleono from Napier NZ. I have used your training tips and now understand the mechanics of your training lesson. I am now hitting my driver, 3 and 5 woods 20 x 30 metres longer and straight on the fairways. Thanks so much.
Great visual Danny, I found that I'm controlling my loft angles at will with this image in my mind I'm really attacking the ball with confidence! almost broke 70 today= subbed!
Great Video! I’ve seen the same concept compared to nunchucks and it really worked well for me. Handle: Arms control the golf swing. Chain: Wrists, generate the club head speed. Club: does the damage! Thanks for the tips!
Well, I listen to this video just once and then went out to play a game with hubby. My driving was increased by at least 20 yards!!!!!! Huge difference for me. Now I will have try to consistently repeat this outcome. Thanks so much!
Wow danny, 1057 comments! What can i say that hasn’t been said before? I’ve tried a lot of different stuff, but this idea was an almost instant success. I always liked the concept of ‘swing the club’ and your body wall get in the right positions. I think this drill teaches us how and when to accelerate the club. I love the idea that your body moves in response to the club. Brilliant!!
I just played a few holes yesterday and a full round today using this method: missed just two fairways off the tee and hit some good iron shot - a much more fluid and confident feel to the swing, and certainly resulted in much straighter and mostly longer than my usual driving. Played to 10 handicap, 2 better than my usual "best" and something like 12 shots better than when I played 3 days ago!! Thank you very much.
More great footage Danny, my driving since I watched one where you advise to lean a touch forward to "cover the ball" has help me with consistency the last few weeks, shot 78 gross on Sunday....keep up the great work so glad I found you on here 👏🏻👍🏻
Between this and your instructional video on how to swing effortlessly (like a kid!) I’ve gone from an average drive if 220 to 250. Took some adjusting at first, but it has improved my swing and made the game fun (which is the point)! Danny, keep up the great work! Thank you.
@@DanielMaude Well mother of God. I've played golf for years , and now I have to change my swing entirely to suit this. Added so much speed I don't know what I was at before. Thanks a million.
So frustrated with my swing until I found this. Lighter grip, looser joints and now I’m shootings my hands through with a snap. Much less effort and no more death grip on my irons. What a breakthrough for me!!! Thank you 🙏
Had to come back and leave a comment here. I watched this video earlier at work, and all I could think about was trying the method from this video. I just hit the range, and I have never had such consistant ball striking. Just relaxing, letting the weight of the club do the work, barely gripping it. I tend to grip tight and tense all my muscles and force the swing to gain distance, this video has proved that the exact opposite is true. I can't wait to keep working on this and see how/if it has a lasting affect on my swing. Great advice. Thank you.
Thanks for the reply Danny.....I was not expecting that so it was certainly a nice surprise. Just a follow up on my continuing your drill as part of my indoor winter practice.... I know see pieces of the ball cover on my wedge club face and the ball contact feels as if the club / ball contact is non existent. The ball just rockets off the face...what a change for me!!....amazing contact and obviously compression of the ball. Your explanations of the feel of these drills is perfect and very easy to understand and repeat. I wish you were closer as I’d be signing up for one on one lessons for sure. Any way..Your instructions are excellent and will look forward to more videos you put out moving forward....thanks again!!
There are many ways and drills to obtain this feeling. For me, taking my golf shoes off and hitting drivers in my socks. This gives me perfect balance, grip pressure, and tempo w/o thinking about anything. No "do instruction". I have this feeling - I can hit my driver as far as I can hit it w/o any effort. Might want to try this.
Played for 25 years. Well played and played. I would rather say tried and tried. By pure effort and stubbornness i reached 10,3 as my lowest hcp. This is by far the most instructive fit about the golf swing I've seen. And I've seen quite a few. Wonderful Danny!!!! The best? This video finally made my wife realise that she must release the club to get some length in her drives.
Another great video - I’ve watched hundreds of videos and keep coming back to yours Danny - wish I lived a bit closer ( Adelaide 😏). The ‘catapult ‘ is a great analogy for the swing - very original👍 Thank you for the videos- Steve
I agree with Tim W.: this is one of the most helpful golf tips I have ever gotten from anyone about any part of the golf game. Adding this to my swing has improved my rhythm, contact, distance, and direction with every club!
Great video Danny. This reminds me of an old book Written by Ernest jones “swinging into golf”. Some other folks here might be aware of it. Your video though goes a step further on how to apply these principles to driving the ball.
Very leading edge. Having watched A LOT of golf videos - I would say this is really the most effortless - and powerful - way to swing. Most instruction inadvertently results in a release that is way too late - and unneeded tension. Once you do this technique a few times - It becomes obvious how the Pros (especially the Ladies) look like they are swinging so easy - yet hitting it so far. Thanks!
Thank you Danny for this vidéo. It's very informative .Love the way of your demonstration and explanation. Very clear ,enjoyable to hear and to watch. I will practiced during my golf vacations in Thailand & Laos. Sure I will share with friends over there . Untill next video. Merci
I've been struggling with paralysis by analysis for over 35 years and at last you've just shown me the essence of what I'm supposed to be trying to do when I swing the club. If only I saw this when I first started playing it would have saved me unimaginable frustration.
Danny I love what you say, how you say it and how you explain it. It all makes sense and is relevant. I have been working on just this catapulting for a few months. I think we all have a natural baseball swing when swinging horizontally, it just seems a bit more difficult swinging on a more vertical golf plane. I have found a slightly stronger grip with the glove hand makes it easier to release, or catapult, but of course you have to allow for the inevitable draw. But another great video. You always seem to be able to focus on the things that I am needing to tweak. Thanks.
This is a lot like what I learned to do naturally on my own over the years. Much more control, speed and power than trying to accelerate the club by pushing it. It's all about that final snap in the last 90 degrees just like you showed on the downswing and yes - being able to let go and have a some give in your wrists. It's all physics.. I have hit the ball consistently 300+ yards off the tee when I mastered this technique. Excellent demonstration of how it's done!
I've been using your tip on getting the right distance from the ball at set up to great results. I feel that this video is specifically aimed at me and am anxious to get out and try it. The slow motion part is especially helpful. Thanks for another great video
Last year, by trial and error, came up with the exact duplicate of your lesson. Now at the age of 73 I’m driving the ball farther with less effort without a slice. My one additional thought is, don’t try to hard, it only makes things worse.
yup, carried a 6-iron around the course today (closed for the season except to members) and 'effortless' shots flew straight, if shorter, but pumping up the volume resulted in topped shots. I know there's more in there now with the effortless variety, it's just going to take some learning
Danny... Q here, I just started Golf myself and I've seen a couple of your videos and they have helped me so much. I just wanted to say thank you. Just Subscribed.
Is this technique the same for iron shots, as in one of your previous videos on how to strike your irons, I am sure that the instruction involved getting the upper body more forward and ahead of the ball.
Keith Turton when you hit your irons the ball is further back in your stance so you catch the ball earlier with your body much more over the golf ball. Hope this clears things up a little. Also, the intention with a driver is to launch into the sky off a tee slightly different to an irons where the intention is to compress it into the turf.
I am a few months away from becoming a senior golfer and am a class A golfer in my younger days. I can attest this works very well so long as you don't try too hard.
Danny watched your video on the catapult swing, brilliant and was out this morning trying it , took my slice out and give me a little more distance . I've watched countless videos and put my self in Knott's but yours was instant success thankyou and keep up the great vids.
Anybody that thumbed this down is a dolt. Brilliant demonstration of this key. Helped remind me of the keys to power. I agree with the letting it go is how you hit it straight.
Tried the catapult last week... and... wow! Been playing golf for fifty years and this tip is hands down the most effective... for my particular age and limitations. Too bad winter is setting in. Can't wait for spring.
Using this now and it really works to straighten out my drives as well. Key is the early release. Using on my 3 wood and hybrids too. I feel like this emulates the swing you see in the robots used for club testing.
Can all you experts who comment. Could you just go out and practice it. He is trying to help and there are so many experts in capital letters who have to comment. Unbelievable.
I like it, I used to hit it pretty far, but then I started taking lessons and learning the "correct" swing. Really lost the "no effort" part. After getting a comment "Who are you mad at" when swining my driver, and not getting past 200yards I realised I was doing something wrong. Watching your video I remembered that I used to be a more "wristy" player, but I believe it was the more relaxed and loose swing that was the key !
Danny perhaps one of your best videos. You got real insight and empathy for your listening struggling students....hehe Me! Will give it a try soon, as I get past my irons. I have a good free teacher at the range who is insisting I stay with the irons longer before my driver debut. When no one is looking though I am going to take out my R1 at 12 deg and give it hell! Thanks so much Danny, you are great teacher.
May I suggest you replace the R1, Im sorry to say it was such a bad driver that Taylor-Made brought another one out less than 6 months later because no one could hit it. It doesn't produce enough spin and is thus too difficult to get the ball air born consistently...only your top players with fast swing speeds could actually hit it. :(
@@DanielMaude Danny, think you are spot on. No one was looking today and It took me about 20 balls to even get one vaguely poorly hit (max 5 ft off the ground out 75 yds). I went thru about 50 balls and put it back in the bag....lol. It was given to me not long ago and plan to give it back. I do have an old Yonex driver to start trying out. I also have an old kasco 44 hybrid club. Bottom line, I think you are right on. If I do hit it, it feels like I have to hit with such a HUGE massive force to get it to do anything at all. It s like anywhere but the sweet spot is not going to launch the ball. I have had some of the other pros there hit it with success and they seemed to like it, but to me it s just looks glitzy and does nothing for me but bruise my pride. You are so great for letting me know to stop. As it is my ego is bit crushed! Lol, but I am tough and not a quitter.
@@DanielMaude Hi Danny, update is that I switched out to a very standard driver Yonex and could not hit it either nor my hybred anymore. The grip on driver has got a hole in it now as well. lol. I really feel very helpless with my transition from irons to driver. I can hit easy swings on all the irons, pitching, chipping, and putting but no driver action. I just about give up. I feel I don't have the athletic ability to use the driver.......well not positive, but there it is.
My golf swing is basically my baseball swing, and I noticed I move backwards when I swing. I wondered if trying to move forward while swinging would add a few feet, but backwards is more natural. I'll try out the catapult method next time
@@Tamaquashad I think I used to do that but after a day at the driving range with my friends I probably sprained my wrist trying to overdo it, but it might be ok when I only tee off 18 times
I've come to believe that where people are going so wrong and where I went wrong for years, is they can't look at a golf club like another tool that we use the weight of to perform a task. I always try to remember that the way this game came about was a guy was cutting grass when he discovered that the grass cutting tool he was using could crack a small round ball in an amazing way. Golf clubs to this day are nothing but descendants of that original tool. When I keep that in mind and just try to cut grass and pretend tees are stems, I do much better. Great video Danny. I'm going to attempt to embrace the catapult even more in my swing.
This lesson is a 10 on a 10 scale. Many will not appreciate how important-and right-he is. The hard part is trying to get what is essentially an early release-YES-casting the club. It’s not a cast if you’re turning properly. I found a way to do this that may work for you: Imagine a golf ball about 12 inches back along your club path from the real ball. Because your club is several inches off the ground that that point in your swing, imagine that ball is on a taller tee. This is the ball your club would hit on the way to hitting the real ball, okay? Now, on your swing, both backswing and downswing, focus on that imaginary ball. Hit it hard on your downswing, and try to flush it, not a glancing blow. That is going to force you to release early. It will also keep you behind the real ball, which is what you want. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT HITTING THE REAL BALL, TRUST THAT THE CLUB WILL GET TO IT AND IT WILL. YOU WILL FEEL, MAYBE FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHAT IT’S LIKE WHEN THE CLUB HAS REAL ANGULAR MOMENTUM AND WHOOSHES BY YOU. It does feel effortless. Remember, keep your focus on the imaginary ball and smash it on the downswing. Good luck.
Danny, I think instructors like you need to call out all the damage that has been done by instructors who speak of “delayed hit” and “holding the lag angle” and stuff like that: regardless of their good intentions, these teachers have created millions of “handle-pullers” who can only get to the ball by standing up and flipping their hands at the bottom. Ben Hogan had a thought about initiating his downswing that got the club catapulting early: “I feel like I’m taking an arrow out of a quiver.” Put a quiver of arrows across your back and reach up with your right hand to take one out. Pulling straight down (like a handle-pulling high handicapper) won’t get the arrow out; it will get hung up. To take the arrow out, your hand must move away from your shoulder, up and backward along the target line. When your hands move that way holding the club, even just a little bit, the club starts to catapult and build angular momentum and speed right from the top. Try it. If you agree, maybe you should do a video with a quiver of arrows across your back, showing the movement and perhaps giving your students a way to get the feel.
Good tip. I am now 70 year old male, once a +1 handicap. now about 8 handicap, I have lost most of my swing speed doing exactly what you said, about using the body to move the club. My question is , can I use this same catapult swing for my irons ?
@@DanielMaude thanks for your response. I live in the Northeast of US. so I won't be hitting any for a few more weeks. But I believe I can make the adjustment from your video. That was among the best videos I have seen for people my age and beginners...thanks again.
Danny! Love this -- would you suggest starting out with half swings to get the feel? I have played for 15 yrs and cant get below a 15 handicap... I know this would help I struggle being a left-hander and being taught righthanded but I manage.d Any tips to practice slowly to get the feel before a full swing would be welcomed!
barb sheehan yes, get a sense of the club head as one heavy lump of metal swinging freely, a little like a pendulum. Allow the ball to get in the way of he swinging club as opposed to hitting at the ball
@@DanielMaude - great video and can't wait to try it. I too am left handed and have to convert everything but this looks good. I'm not sure if I understand completely where to have the swing plane, but I'll try different ones.
Timo Toivonen absolutely Timo, just remember that the intentions for each shots are slightly different...hit up with driver and down with irons means the body position is more behind the ball with driver and over the golf ball with your irons
Timo Toivonen this is actually my iron swing for the mid range wedges. It ensures good flight and for approach shots for 8-5 irons. Also my bump and run form, sort of a controlled ball slap instead of a swing.
A great aspect of Danny’s teaching is that he focuses a lot on movement rather than static positions. The mental image of a catapult is a great swing thought.
thank you for this video. i use to hit monster drives close to 300yrds back in the day when i followed Dalton Mccrary's Straight shootin golf teachings of releasing the club head early at the top of my back swing. Now i barely hit it over 200yrds off the tee by holding off on the release. I'm going back to my old swing even though people say it's casting
I can't tell you what a difference this concept has made in my game! For years it's been lag, lag and hold the lag some more. I'm hitting it straighter, longer and with much more consistency. Thanks!
Bill Pirillo that’s brilliant Bill, if you put yourself on video you will probably see you still have lag but now it’s releasing when it should...good work
George Knudson ( famous professional from Canada) taught the same type of method. He called it "The Natural Swing" and he had a video of it in the 1980's. Check on TH-cam and you will see.
Once in a while, I impart a swing with great result and that feels as though there were no friction much less tension, or possibly even a swing involved, at all. Like, "What did I just do??" Your concept is what I think I did. Very good video. Thanks for putting into words (and pictures) a swing I now just may be able to repeat, and at will.
Ive been getting crazy distance and accuracy by doing a count yogi swing.I start with a negative load and finish with a feeling that I'm trying to hit it into the clouds.
I'm not surprised by your results as the Count Yogi approach is the only one I've found that gives effortless distance. Yogi never taught positions, yet people trying to teach Yogi's method ONLY TALK POSITIONS. The movement of the clubhead creates the positions, yet people focus on positions rather than the movement of the clubhead. Take the clubhead along the ground with SOFT WRISTS (not soft grip, you should actually squirt that toothpaste all over the bathroom). Then return the clubhead "consciously" to the position at adress, continously going UPWARD (hitting it onto the clouds). Finish with the clubshaft wrapped around your neck and look gracious.
"The movement of the clubhead creates the positions" = Ernest Jones and his advocates. It's a compliment. Right motion makes right positions, not the other way around. Absolutely right.
I keep watching this and have decided that this is the single best golf instruction video I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot.
Very kind Timothy, I think it really can help you create an effortless golf swing
Agree! So simple to understand

James Dean wonderful to hear, thanks so much for letting me know 👍
I have played golf for over 50 years, and this is the best explanation of a proper yet powerful golf swing I have ever seen. Thank you, Danny!
Wow, well done Ray...I bet that drive felt fantastic
Awesome to hear Ken, I think if golfers let go a little and just let it rip they would hit it so much better
Ramiro Rodriguez very well put and thank you for sharing your results, much appreciated
Danny, this video is the final coffin for my nasty driver slice.
I have watched several of your videos about how to set up the driver
How to do an inside swing
How to properly turn
Did watch and followed all of these and the nasty slice was still standing strong, then i finally found this video of yours.
"LET GO"
"HEAR THAT SOUND?"
It was so hard for me to let go because i wanted control, but when i did, it was so effortless.
Thanks so much for the feedback Brian
Bombs away!
Awesome to hear Andrew, well done
Watched this video in the morning whilst having my breakfast before work. Went straight to the driving range from work and applied what I could remember and my drive was 10x better! A good 50+ plus yards on some occasions! Thanks for the tips 👍🏻
lewharveyful that’s amazing gains in yardage, well done. Thanks for letting me know
Bonjour Danny,
I am from Drummondville,Canada.
I am 78 and if find that your instructions are easy to understand and practice.
Merci beaucoup et Bonne Journée!
You are very welcome Jean-Claude,
Ever since a (bad) golf instructor accused me of "flipping the club," I've been trying to steer it through the swing. As a result, my drives are about 200 yards, with every other club correspondingly short on distance. I'm looking forward to practicing this catapult method. Really excellent video.
Amazing, just keep giving it a rip....controlling the club is a real problem now in the golf industry
GoofyDawg, absolutely...so many golfers are trying to hang on to lag that they achieve the exact opposite
Cheers!
Well done Jimmy, amazing to hear
Thank you Danny this video coupled with the "up down and around" video has given me a completely different swing thought. It has encouraged me to relax more at setup, giving me a feeling of a more powerful swing with less effort. Great instructions Sir, thank you.
stephen bowman great to hear Stephen, thanks for sharing...any questions just ask
Tried this last year … must say … fifty years of golf and this has done more for my game than anything I've tried. Many thanks!
Thats amazing, well done
Tell you what Danny, you're onto a winner with this relaxed grip and catapult combo. I've found it so easy to introduce this to my game over my last two rounds. The reduction in tension and freedom in the turn is a game changer, with a more penetrating ball flight and resulting increase in distance. Impressive.
chompyb that’s wonderful to hear, really pleased for you
Danny, I have been a very Frustrated 62 year old Duffer....This instruction has given me HOPE to seriously IMPROVE....Many Thanks....This Works....
Lawrence sounds like you’ve got the idea, thanks for sharing
Danny's videos are the simplest and most understandable golf videos I've watched. Definitely worth time to watch them and learn. Thank for sharing your knowledge of the game.
I agree 100% with this video. I’ve been telling people the same thing. The stiffness that I see in people at the range is mind-blowing. They are trying so hard to do “the proper swing technique” but it’s making the swing so unnatural.
TwelfthRoot2 absolutely, thanks for sharing
I tried this method yesterday and could not believe how much more distance and accuracy I achieved. I shot a very easy 38 and increased my distance by 30 yards with less effort. Thank you Danny for your awesome instruction. Greetings from the USA
😁👊
Danny, thank you SO much, I feel like this lesson is so fundamental in helping us all understand how the tour get their club head speed and how the hips/body move in response to the club. What a lightbulb moment! Thank you again, legend!
My pleasure Paul, it can often feel a little out of control but this feeling is how we generate centrifugal force
Stefan Jockusch that’s awesome Stefan, would be great to see your before and after a
Hi Danny with the new reverse engineer method you helped me develop for my self; the catapulting of my club and the feeling I am releasing my club early with my trail hand come easier for me then ever before. Thanks.
Really interesting insights Thomas, appreciate you sharing
Great advice. I had a teaching pro tell me basically the same thing back in the 1980’s and it made a huge difference in my drives. I was hitting line drives with a 10 degree loft Taylor Made driver about 250 yards. Doing what you say added 25 to 30 yards and I was hitting the drives about as high as a full swing with a 9 iron. Breaking the wrists early also made me a lot more accurate with the shorter irons and got my pitching wedge up to about 140 yards at a full swing. Love the channel and the advice.
Ed Vaden that’s brilliant Ed, well done...appreciate the feedback
I needed this! I went to a golf store who wouldnt fit me for clubs due to me hitting my drivers same distance as my mini driver. They said to come back when better launch angles and power happens. I think this just might be what I was looking for all along!
I hope so Chad, give it some practice and let me know how you get on
Great Video Danny. Thank you.
Jaco de Beurs amazing, well done and thanks for sharing
I like it.
BTW just hit 67 years on the calendar
I love your videos Danny! As someone who struggles greatly with distance (especially off the tee), I can’t wait to try this out!
Whenever I struggle with my driver I must watch this video again and again! This is the ONLY video I ever needed to fix my swing! Thanks!!
Really pleased it’s helping your golf swing
I tried this at the course yesterday with very few warm up swings before the first tee. First rate results!!! The key for me was turning my hips through fast enough to stay ahead of the faster club head. I hit 2 of my greatest shots of all time with my 3 hybrid and 3 wood
rrassoc great thoughts, thanks for sharing
Many Pro teachers would call that casting the club. You are proving them wrong.
Holding onto the club too firm and not letting it release is what is causing so many golfers to push and flip the club. Thanks for taking the time to post.
Just works. Ball goes straighter and longer. Body not stressed or strained. I watch before each social golf outing ( Not often enough :) )
Thank you Danny. With thousands of golf instructions on TH-cam, I find yours the most useful and precise. I understand your explanations and enjoy watching all your other instructional videos.
Louis Luk that’s great to hear, happy to help
Thanks for the great videos. The catapult seems to work great for the driver, not so much for irons. Any thoughts on that one?
Talofa lava again Danny, Paul Faleono from Napier NZ. I have used your training tips and now understand the mechanics of your training lesson. I am now hitting my driver, 3 and 5 woods 20 x 30 metres longer and straight on the fairways. Thanks so much.
Great visual Danny, I found that I'm controlling my loft angles at will with this image in my mind I'm really attacking the ball with confidence! almost broke 70 today= subbed!
Doc Riley that’s awesome, welcome to our community. We have a great group of golfers here
Broke 70 on 9 holes?
Great Video! I’ve seen the same concept compared to nunchucks and it really worked well for me.
Handle: Arms control the golf swing.
Chain: Wrists, generate the club head speed.
Club: does the damage!
Thanks for the tips!
James Mackay Neverheard of that but another great image
Is this catapult swing transferrable to the irons?
PS.........To loosen my grip, would bigger or jumbo grips help ease my grip pressure?
Absolutely if your hands are big enough
Well, I listen to this video just once and then went out to play a game with hubby. My driving was increased by at least 20 yards!!!!!! Huge difference for me. Now I will have try to consistently repeat this outcome. Thanks so much!
Thats amazing well done
Wow danny, 1057 comments! What can i say that hasn’t been said before? I’ve tried a lot of different stuff, but this idea was an almost instant success. I always liked the concept of ‘swing the club’ and your body wall get in the right positions. I think this drill teaches us how and when to accelerate the club. I love the idea that your body moves in response to the club. Brilliant!!
afruchter I hope it really helps you out...so many golfers have said how much yardage it’s added. Keep me posted on your progress
My pleasure, any questions just ask
I just played a few holes yesterday and a full round today using this method: missed just two fairways off the tee and hit some good iron shot - a much more fluid and confident feel to the swing, and certainly resulted in much straighter and mostly longer than my usual driving. Played to 10 handicap, 2 better than my usual "best" and something like 12 shots better than when I played 3 days ago!! Thank you very much.
More great footage Danny, my driving since I watched one where you advise to lean a touch forward to "cover the ball" has help me with consistency the last few weeks, shot 78 gross on Sunday....keep up the great work so glad I found you on here 👏🏻👍🏻
Pete Grimshaw that’s brilliant Pete, thanks for letting me kmow
Between this and your instructional video on how to swing effortlessly (like a kid!) I’ve gone from an average drive if 220 to 250. Took some adjusting at first, but it has improved my swing and made the game fun (which is the point)! Danny, keep up the great work! Thank you.
Thats wonderful, well done
Thanks man. Gonna give this a go, seems to make sense watching it from my couch anyway.
Thanks for the comment, let me know how it goes
@@DanielMaude Well mother of God. I've played golf for years , and now I have to change my swing entirely to suit this. Added so much speed I don't know what I was at before. Thanks a million.
dickyrock1 that’s amazing well done, thanks for sharing your progress 👍
So frustrated with my swing until I found this. Lighter grip, looser joints and now I’m shootings my hands through with a snap. Much less effort and no more death grip on my irons. What a breakthrough for me!!! Thank you 🙏
A Challenge Tour player told me "you've got to give up control to gain control" - love it.
You do indeed Rob
Think that quote stems from George Knudsen a Canadian Pro and very good teacher.
Martin Chuck is a protege of his.
Thank you.
Sam Collisson that’s awesome to hear Sam, thank you for sharing your success story
Sounds so logical: like having the arm relax and just going along for the ride!
Might want to try this.
scratch67golfer like this idea, thanks for sharing
Sam Snead.
Played for 25 years. Well played and played. I would rather say tried and tried. By pure effort and stubbornness i reached 10,3 as my lowest hcp. This is by far the most instructive fit about the golf swing I've seen. And I've seen quite a few. Wonderful Danny!!!!
The best? This video finally made my wife realise that she must release the club to get some length in her drives.
film, not fit
Göran Nilgard that really is brilliant, so pleased it makes sense and helps your better half 😁
Once again a very informative video. I like your style of delivery and the simplicity of your explanations. Keep up the good work.
John Reviews, thanks as always John...appreciate your support
Another great video - I’ve watched hundreds of videos and keep coming back to yours Danny - wish I lived a bit closer ( Adelaide 😏). The ‘catapult ‘ is a great analogy for the swing - very original👍 Thank you for the videos- Steve
Stephen Carty thanks Stephen...it’s a great feeling when you get it
Conservation of angular momentum.
James Fell absolutely James
Okay, I used this technique yesterday and added about 40 yards on two of my tee shots. Without any practice. Danny you are a wizard.
Amazing Chuck well done
Dead on. This vid and mike malaska are the only two that get it right as to how it feels to those that can’t get it.
Jeff Behringer hope it helps you to bomb a few drives Jeff
Jeff Behringer Agee 100% spot on
I agree with Tim W.: this is one of the most helpful golf tips I have ever gotten from anyone about any part of the golf game.
Rodney Butterfield love that book, it’s been years since I read it...you’ve inspired me to pick it up again
Thanks!
stevenolmstead thanks so much for the feedback, keep me posted on how you get on
Thank you Danny for this vidéo. It's very informative .Love the way of your demonstration and explanation. Very clear ,enjoyable to hear and to watch. I will practiced during my golf vacations in Thailand & Laos. Sure I will share with friends over there . Untill next video. Merci
Banyen Kirivong Merci beaucoup...appreciate you taking the time to feedback
Banyen Kirivong h
Thanks.
Iain Mackie, thanks Iain...love the fact that I’m able to help your game...thanks for letting me know
This is a lot like what I learned to do naturally on my own over the years.
Dan Bashur like the image of snap Dan, thank for sharing
Very informative and helpful. Does this same swing progression work for fairway woods?
Chris Ryall it does although the body is more over the ball at impact as opposed to behind
Fred Schnepel great thoughts, thanks for sharing
yup, carried a 6-iron around the course today (closed for the season except to members) and 'effortless' shots flew straight, if shorter, but pumping up the volume resulted in topped shots. I know there's more in there now with the effortless variety, it's just going to take some learning
John DeMings absolutely John, it can take time and patience but you should see glimmers of what’s possible when you try it
David golf not so good for the back S and T
David golf love your passion for the game David...thanks for participating
Keith Turton ji
@@DanielMaude are you still releasing an iron with the same "outward" feeling? Thank you
Jonathan Balanetsky it feels less as there is less upward movement and more downward with irons
Danny, which concepts from this video should be applied for hitting iron shots, if any?
I am a few months away from becoming a senior golfer and am a class A golfer in my younger days. I can attest this works very well so long as you don't try too hard.
Great vid Danny - what if any changes are made to a ball not on a tee
dudley1955sk very kind of you to say, I hope it helps, keep me posted
Danny watched your video on the catapult swing, brilliant and was out this morning trying it , took my slice out and give me a little more distance . I've watched countless videos and put my self in Knott's but yours was instant success thankyou and keep up the great vids.
Anybody that thumbed this down is a dolt. Brilliant demonstration of this key. Helped remind me of the keys to power. I agree with the letting it go is how you hit it straight.
Ted Becker thank you Ted...appreciate you taking the time to feedback
Tried the catapult last week... and... wow! Been playing golf for fifty years and this tip is hands down the most effective... for my particular age and limitations. Too bad winter is setting in. Can't wait for spring.
pj reece that’s awesome news, keep up the good work
That ball was crunched :) great video from one of the most passionate teachers of the game. Thanks Danny. PC
PC, thanks so much for the feedback...keep me posted on your practice
PC can’t wait to try it, it looks like what I’ve been waiting for Jaythomaslau
Jay Lau that’s great 👍
How to play go
Using this now and it really works to straighten out my drives as well. Key is the early release. Using on my 3 wood and hybrids too. I feel like this emulates the swing you see in the robots used for club testing.
Can all you experts who comment. Could you just go out and practice it. He is trying to help and there are so many experts in capital letters who have to comment. Unbelievable.
Stephen Part thanks for commenting Stephen...As you say it’s so important to get out and start practicing
Sondre Aas absolutely, this won’t be wristy but instead your wrists will be more passive so you can get that snap at impact 😁
Tried this at the range today, never hit better drives in my life! now for the iron play haha
Tim MacDermot that’s great Tim, with irons just remember your body is over the ball at impact as opposed to behind it
@@DanielMaude can you still use this method as long as you keep your torso over the ball with the irons?
@@DanielMaude Also will let you know what model Yonex #1 club I have if marked.....thank you again.
I'll try out the catapult method next time
Let me know how you get on
If it feels like your baseball swing you’re almost there. Feel like you’re throwing a baseball with your trail hand at the ball. You’ll be $$$.
Air Shad sounds like great advice
Love the metaphors you use Oliver, thanks for the comment
Knowledge imparted with genuine passion. What a refreshing change. Thanks.
John C thank you John, appreciate the feedback
Good luck.
Love it, thanks for taking the time to feedback Bernard
@@bernardsamson2365 love this analogy, would be a great thing for golfers to sense in the golf swing
Good tip. I am now 70 year old male, once a +1 handicap. now about 8 handicap, I have lost most of my swing speed doing exactly what you said, about using the body to move the club. My question is , can I use this same catapult swing for my irons ?
Yes although it catapults down and through as opposed to up
@@DanielMaude thanks for your response.
I know this would help
I struggle being a left-hander and being taught righthanded but I manage.d
Any tips to practice slowly to get the feel before a full swing would be welcomed!
barb sheehan yes, get a sense of the club head as one heavy lump of metal swinging freely, a little like a pendulum. Allow the ball to get in the way of he swinging club as opposed to hitting at the ball
@@DanielMaude - great video and can't wait to try it. I too am left handed and have to convert everything but this looks good. I'm not sure if I understand completely where to have the swing plane, but I'll try different ones.
Jimmy Ward that’s exactly the right approach Jimmy
Thanks!
Pleasure John, all the best
Hi and thanks, interesting swing idea. Would this work with irons too?
Timo Toivonen absolutely Timo, just remember that the intentions for each shots are slightly different...hit up with driver and down with irons means the body position is more behind the ball with driver and over the golf ball with your irons
Timo Toivonen this is actually my iron swing for the mid range wedges. It ensures good flight and for approach shots for 8-5 irons. Also my bump and run form, sort of a controlled ball slap instead of a swing.
A great aspect of Danny’s teaching is that he focuses a lot on movement rather than static positions. The mental image of a catapult is a great swing thought.
I’ve started to do this without even realizing. It just helps be keep my weight on my back foot. When I transfer too quickly it’s hook city.
Jacob Sory absolutely, transfer too much and the club head gets trapped behind causing a block or the hands to catch up and flip
@@DanielMaude The right hip will go around as the follow thru, so it a little bit behind the club head, right? Thanks!
Hung Phan absolutely
thank you for this video. i use to hit monster drives close to 300yrds back in the day when i followed Dalton Mccrary's Straight shootin golf teachings of releasing the club head early at the top of my back swing. Now i barely hit it over 200yrds off the tee by holding off on the release. I'm going back to my old swing even though people say it's casting
It’s a trebuchet
John George brilliant, thanks for letting me know
Glad I scrolled and found someone else who wanted to be a smart ass before I did! lol jk bud, yeah it sounds more like a Trebuchet....
Seems like somebody's been watching BeBetterGolf...
Woden of the Angles nope haven’t heard of them...any reason?
a trebuchet is a type of catapult
I can't tell you what a difference this concept has made in my game! For years it's been lag, lag and hold the lag some more. I'm hitting it straighter, longer and with much more consistency. Thanks!
Bill Pirillo that’s brilliant Bill, if you put yourself on video you will probably see you still have lag but now it’s releasing when it should...good work
George Knudson ( famous professional from Canada) taught the same type of method. He called it "The Natural Swing" and he had a video of it in the 1980's. Check on TH-cam and you will see.
Thanks for sharing Brian, I will check it out
Brian Andrejicka great ball striker
Using this method, I'm hitting 270 yard drives now not bad for a 68 year old and a lot more to come .Thanks Danny.
Rocket Roy boom that’s a monster tee shots
I'm gunna let go...wish me luck
Thanks danny😯😊
Jason Suter you won’t need it...let it rip
@@DanielMaude will do😅
Once in a while, I impart a swing with great result and that feels as though there were no friction much less tension, or possibly even a swing involved, at all. Like, "What did I just do??" Your concept is what I think I did. Very good video. Thanks for putting into words (and pictures) a swing I now just may be able to repeat, and at will.
Thats brilliant Tom, thanks for sharing your learning
Ive been getting crazy distance and accuracy by doing a count yogi swing.I start with a negative load and finish with a feeling that I'm trying to hit it into the clouds.
Whatever imagery helps you deliver the club to the ball is what is the correct method. The perfect swing does not exist
What is the Count Yogi swing?
