Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.

OMG. This is exactly my sister, whose been living in Colorado for 40 years. This is hilarious. Whenever we see them, weddings, family reunions, funerals, her entire family all look like they are going for a hike. Lol.
As someone who has lived in Colorado their whole life, grew up with a climbing wall in their garage, former competitive snowboarder, who is named after a peak in Evergreen, and who just made their annual drive to Telluride - this cut deep man.
So, I could use some sourdough starter...

As a Texan...it might have been Montana instead of Colorado, but I'd never been hiking in the friggin' actual mountains, let alone seen an actual mountain in real life, so 4 miles up WITH the trek poles and bear repellant my sister in law gave me because I'm a noob, I can barely breath, and here comes this family of 4 locals, mom's in sandals, has an entire child strapped to her back, and she's walking at a fast clip alongside her skipping child and husband. Breathlessly I asked them how many miles more....2 they said. I almost died.
@DannyGirl Well, thank you, that certainly made me feel better. There were certainly some points at which I was slipping backwards on the more vertical trails and needed the poles.

@@conniesmith3544 Where I live is so flat any time it rains, it floods, so we have zero elevation of any kind so the idea of walking up into the sky was a totally foreign experience.
So Appalachia isn’t the Rocky’s, but I grew up with a state park in my back yard and when I was in high school, we would just Hess into the woods all the time. We’d show up in flip flops snd mall clothes and knew all the trails. It wasn’t until college that my best friends pointed out how people came from all over the country in their boots and gear, and we could walk the trails like they weee sidewalks 😂

I've been wanting to move to Colorado for awhile now. My daughter just got a husky, and when naming her I suggested "Aspen" but she went with "Willow"....so I guess we would fit in quite well 😄

Oh my gosh. All of your "life in Colorado" videos have been super accurate, but this one (as a female) has been my favorite... and SO accurate! Usually these Colorado videos often only reflect the Front Range type stuff and I live on the Western Slope, but you hit the nail on the head!

@@sampreston9226 we don't actually hate Texans, we do kind of get annoyed, but not hatred at least not on my part. On the 4th we were in a touristy spot, with a car stopping where it shouldn't be and then we saw it was from Texas, and said, Oh of course it's Texas. People do seem to have a lot of hostility towards Californians though.
Yes. LOL I follow a Colorado travel forum and the Texans do seem to be the most clueless about visiting Colorado. We also get really annoyed about so many people moving here from out of state because the drastic population increase is ruining everything.

Glad I'm not the only one who has run around waving a shop vac in the air sucking up miller moths while my vegetables lay in waste from the hail outside.
I had some transplants from Florida as my neighbors years back here in New Mexico, and for them it was the dust. There's nothing you can do about it. I told them, "Just don't touch the TV screen... Then you'll notice!"

Colorado Native here and I approve of this video. I especially loved the kid names...Chaco, Aspen...I have a dog named Aspen and wear Chacos, lol. Nice Chacos, by the way! Anyway, I'm not rich enough to live that way ;) One kid in Montessori almost broke us!
What you do is start your own Montessori school. I guess that's what all the po' ass moms my ex's baby mama group did up in Española.
@John Smith chacos are marketed as hiking sandals, although there shouldn't be such a thing. We get multitudes of calls on the weekend because some dope twists their ankle or some sort of injury that constitutes a rescue because of those things.

As a Colorado son of a great mom, she named me Parker, my brother Rocky and other brother Aspen 😆 all very common names and this is the most accurate video.
The last time I did yoga on the rocks the group behind me was discussing their move off-grid in the mountains with their city friends, and how easy and awesome it was, and how much cheaper it was to heat their home with firewood. *imagines being buried in snow and running out of firewood bc I'm too lazy to chop it*

Hahahahaha we have a famous cliff here called Cape Blomidon. Its covered in amethysts. When my sibs and i were kids, my older brothers and other local lads would scale the cliffs freehand and barefoot , picking up amethysts and putting them in their pockets. They always got such a laugh at the people from away covered in climbing gear like they were scaling Everest hahaha
Whoa, real amethysts? That makes Nova Scotia sound like a fairyland. Kids climbing around barefoot pocketing amethysts...stumbling into fairy circles too, no doubt!

I was living on the Texas coast, and drove up to Gunnison CO to see my family. Along the way, my boyfriend and I stopped to help a guy whose car had broken down right before Monarch pass. He grimaced a bit at my Texas plate, but was happy for the help!
