I wouldn’t mind if the tariffs went towards improving bike infrastructure or helping build manufacturing capacity of bike components in the US, or even federal ebike incentives, but I highly doubt it.
Speaking of cycling infrastructure, I notice the road you’re walking along has a protected bike lane, mostly used by sit-on scooters, but better than what most of the US has.

Their infrastructure is significantly better than the US overall. The Tariffs are extended in many sectors. So it really has nothing to do with reinvesting this income towards cycling infrastrure unfortunately.

As an American bike builder complete with owned not leased machine shop where I make every component you can imagine, I'm glad. the only reason crap Chinese ebokes are cheap, is because the CCP subsidizes and pays to make sure American craftsmen and shops can't compete in price. Their intention is to destroy American manufacturing power in the private sector. I already have my own form of torrid, when people asked me to fix a Chinese ebike I usually turn them down, I won't give American craftsmanship to people that did not want high standards when they bought their crap coat hanger soft steel frames with pathetic square wave barely functional speed control and floppy loose brake handles and undersized spokes in rear rims that all fail right between 350 to 500 miles.

@@acroduster that's not mass production though. That's a very small scale. We're you able to source components from manufacturers or factories that were domestic?
Also, I think you are conflating cheap products, with all 'Chinese' products. To you, is the iPhone cheap and flimsy? They manufacturer extremely high-quality products out of China. However, they manufacturer extremely cheap junk as well. The issue is what consumers are buying in the US. I agree, there are wayyy too many junk, throw-away quality eBikes in the US from China. However, there are also amazingly nice, high quality eBikes coming from China. I think the issue is, consumers think they can just buy some low-price off-brand (Chinese branded) product and expect it to last and be serviceable. Which it is not.

The interest it is helping is the government who is just making more money but having us pay more. Also making business struggle more for the bottom line to assemble the products. Not sure why people don’t understand the difference between fair trade and tariffs (government tax) how does it help American industry to raise the cost on products the industry needs. Almost everything is made somewhere else and assembly here. Tariffs are just a way for governments to tax their people behind the curtains.

@@daniellarusso8012 If I am wrong than please explain how this tariff is helping the e-bike industry in America? Or a helping E-bike company’s to do better. What materials and parts are made here in America? We are talking e-bikes right? Maybe you should research free market verses tariff. Then maybe you can figure out why our economy is no longer number one. Sorry buddy, I am 100 percent right. History proves it. Might research how tariffs helped the chips you are referring to. You can’t make rules and regulations and taxes so high to do business in America with EPA ect. Print and spend tons of money which drives inflation and cost even higher. Then add tariff tax to even push a deep in trouble economy and failing American business to the break of collapse then complain about it. Tariffs are just another dumb idea over free market. You know when you say government invested you mean the same people they are passing the tariff onto. You want to really help the industry jobs and labor?Don’t shut the country down and go on a spending spree. They are double dipping on us and trying to act like they are doing us a favor. If they want to do a favor let free market work and cut back all these extremely outrageous regulations. While yes we don’t need to dump trash in the ocean. We also don’t need to tax companies and say okay now you can pollute more than others cause we tax you more. If only it was as simple as making things even more expensive with import tax for all of us. This has always been a left verses right ideology until well one person on the right suddenly had to make up money for things like tax breaks and help the government take in more. Tariffs are a back door tax for government on citizens not able to comprehend what is actually happening. I ain’t going to teach simple economics on TH-cam. Just ask Mr. Miyagi.

The tariff is just a way for America to make money. Tariffs were how we built the Brooklyn bridge and other big cities prior to the government implementing a federal income tax.

The government is spending far more than what payroll taxes bring in. The feds are having trouble selling their bonds to other nations now. So, tariffs was the low-hanging fruit to squeeze more money out of the US consumer, who is buying "optional/luxury" items. Such as eBikes.
I think it is humorous on the political scene though. Biden eviscerated Trump for starting these tariffs, and moved to block them the moment he got in office. And now Biden is putting the same tariffs back into play. It is like he forgot all his fiery speeches he gave about the evil of tariffs, and how they are just a direct tax upon the public.

@@christopherharmon9336 Fair point, and I could see that happening in cities with a successful transit system. But I'm thinking about all cities that have crappy transit. There are tons of cities in the US that would be more likely to see an increase in e bike use than transit ridership. Plus, auto manufacturers, and oil/gas companies have way more lobbying power than a local transit authority. After all the tariff is Federal, so auto, oil, and gas companies are going to benefit from cheaper e bikes becoming more expensive.
