I was a firefighter who used to live mountain biking. Then got Injured and couldn't walk for months. 7 surgeries and many years later, I wanted to get active again. As you might guess, it was difficult. Add breathing issues from years of eating smoke... Biking was almost a lost cause for me. Then I was gifted an ebike. Life changer! Unfortunately, the company is out of business and Its battery went bad. I suppose I can try to rebuild it this winter. Anyway, My hope is that legislators consider people like me when making their laws. ebikes do give people back their lives and help them get fit (If they decide to reduce the assistance anyway).

Yes I agree with the above comment.... I have back issues and need a motor on my bicycle otherwise I wouldn't be able to go out on it... On a side note I built my own electric bike and in my opinion it's better cos u can build it how u need it (bigger/smaller battery/motor) and it's a lot cheaper!!

Follow the High Voltage channel and watch his work with the ToSeven DM-01 & DM-02 torque sensing Mid-drive motors. Good DIY option to trick out an existing MTB. Battery mounting is tricky if you have full suspension.
The Bafang BBS02 & BBSHD motors are excellent motors but are Cadence Sensing which are good for 30 mph Commuting.

Here are a few of the trends that we saw in the upcoming ebike offerings.
    1. More batteries integrated into hydroformed frame down tubes.
    2. New battery offerings beyond Lithium Ion.
    3. Lots of effort to streamline and add form to function in frame designs.
    4. Fewer external wires and cables showing. More internal wire and cable runs.
    5. More effort to make ebikes indistinguishable from non-assisted counterparts.
    6. Some subtle and smaller console displays being built into top tubes.
    7. Lots of throttles (class 2-3) seen on ebikes.
    8. 7-8 speed Shimano shifting remains the standard on low to middle price range ebikes.
    9. Lots of color display consoles.
    10. Some implementation of Bluetooth connections to dash consoles.
    11. Some future implementation of remote phone home diagnostics.
    12. Configurable pedal assist levels beginning to show up under on under $2000 ebikes.
    13. Hydraulic brakes will replace cable pull brakes as the standard, even on low end bikes.
    14. Thicker disc brake rotors for ebikes may be on the horizon to deal with the higher speeds, greater brake temps and higher bike weights of ebikes. TRP was showing 2.3mm rotors - very robust.

@@SCPVIDEOPRODUCTION I agree, a couple batteries that are compatible with the bike to just slip into a charger/ use bank so there is always a charged battery. Most campers run on 12v where E-bikes are 36-48v. There are some that run 48v solar power campers with an inverter and 48v too 12v power reducer and 48v to 120v power inverter.

Mokwheel. Idk why anybody buys anything else. They are within legal range and they can use solar and inverters. I've had several brands from rad to lectric to super 73s. Now I have a mokwheel basalt st and a mokwheel scoria. I will NEVER buy anything else again. GF and I travel cross country on these and these are the ONLY ebike I would trust. I can charge extra battery with solar and inverter on trailer while riding. Almost no time lost. On top of that we can play Xbox and watch TV in areas that don't even have power. It's a joke to think anyone buys any other brand. And no, I'm no a brand ambassador. More miles and compliments than anyone I've ever known, yet I'm not good enough. I predict more e-bikes with torque sensors will be sold in 2024. The key to their success is to make sure the bike's gearing is high enough to eliminate ghost pedaling clear up to the 28 mph assist level. Ghost pedaling just doesn't work with a torque sensor. They are great for us older ones that ride e-bikes for exercise and not just as motorcycles. (i.e. throttle, cadence,..)

I would like to see designs with car bike racks in mind, i.e. how about a step through ebike with a companion car rack for hitch mount, that can handle two ebikes with detachable ramp for easy mount dismount. So many of these new ebike designs have weird frames that are difficult to mount on a bike rack. Taking two bikes on a car to a bike trailhead is such a common use-case, yet finding nice ebikes and compatible bike racks is getting more difficult it seems.

In Europe bikes and ebikes are more often used as a use mode of transportation instead of just recreation. Especially since many of the older cities are not designed for car traffic, but smaller horse and pedestrian traffic allowing bikes to easily be used. Plus $3,000 is cheaper than $20-40k (all transferred to the proper European currency) for a vehicle.

I’ll appreciate if you check $1K market price of e-bikes where we all e-bike enthusiasts see the best value for your money, and they are unfortunately not a part of the the major bike shop brands you mentioned. Benchmark in this price range is arguably 2023 Lectric XP3.0, but for example, $650-700 AiPas A2 Elite is considered by many as the best value in this market price range? Not to mention AiPas A6 including double cargo e-bike..

Are there any trikes that can handle hilly terrain, I live in Nevada just east of the Sierras so I need a powerful trike with at least 60 mile range because it is 36 miles round trip from my house to Carson City, Nevada. And a climb of 1800 feet altitude. Up I live at 4400 feet above sea level.

Completely agree! But it seems to add $1,000 premium . But e-bike riders must be getting sick of the maintenance and gunk of derailleurs . The beauty of an e-bike is just get up and go. You shouldn’t have to worry about that dang derailleur.

Wear and maintenance on conventional derailleur chain bikes is minimal, and is typically lower with hub driven bikes, which reduces the strain on the drive train. Derailleurs are still the lightest, least expensive and most efficient way to get a good range of gearing. That's assuming you are looking for an actual e-bike (European and Asian market) rather than an e-motorcycle with pedals (American market).
Not many of us can afford to pair a $1600 Rohloff speed hub with a belt drive to get decent gearing.

Hmmm, here in Germany we have some brands that sell affordable bikes with high specs.
What you don’t see that often are those cheap spect bikes with Tourneys etc. But this whole fatbike thing is growing, too.
Was there a big new thing in the last years? Maybe the torque sensor in the US. In Europe there was nothing, as our bikes mostly have torque sensors because of the middrives.
Your prediction with car brands wasn’t that far off. But it happens more outside the US. Here in the EU, more and more car industry suppliers are stepping into the game. Not with complete bikes, but with components.

I really want to see power tool companies produce ebikes. I find it crazy, that Bosch makes the motors for so many of these ebikes, but they haven't made an ebike themselves. Producing an ebike that uses their power-tool batteries would be a really smart move, especially to get consumers into their higher voltage battery markets, which are generally only for large power tools and lawnmowers.
