Matty's Ready To Step Up - Knockaround Guys

  • Here we see that Benny, Matty's pop, doesn't respect him at all.
His pop knocks him down with every word he says, constantly mocking him, and Matty just keeps trying and trying. Realizing he's not getting anywhere, he gives up - at least in the moment. Matty's an extremely determined individual.
Not only did his mom die but his pop was sent to jail when he was 12 and he was apparently alone often. And with everyone turning him down where jobs are concerned as well. The poor guy doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere. He feels he has no purpose. Not even his father accepts him.
It's honestly pretty sad and is the reason behind everything that happens in the movie. He wants to feel he belongs.

"You brought us the sandwich's. What else can you do?" 😂🤣😂🤣😂 He wanted his Dad's approval so bad. There's nothing wrong with being a square. I'm glad Matty learned that in the end.

I wish they made part 2 with same plot but different ending. Matt staying out of his dad's bizz and doing something productive of his own. Besides goin in union meetings and inspecting ball games

Big facts! You realize there's nothing wrong with being a sqaure even more if you manage to survive the mistakes you make.

I miss Dennis Hopper. "You think everyone stopped fucking and stopped betting and stopped borrowing this month?" Is a great line

      Haha, yeah.
Matty's "problem" has always been that he sees the good in people as opposed to the bad. He even trusted Teddy -- the dude who clearly lied to him in the beginning of the movie (when he was 12 and he told Matty he wouldn't kill Bobby -- then did). It's why he's not really "cut out" for the life.
He thought he could trust Marbles, and in the "business" it really is all about having power over others. Bosses, even underbosses, rarely do the work themselves. Most often, not even capos do the work themselves; they tend to direct soldiers or associates.
The reason Matty gave the job to Marbles was because Matty was acting as more of a Capo than a soldier or associate (Teddy was Benny's Capo and Matty was kind of a threat to his position).
It's not about DOING the job, yourself, it's about GETTING IT DONE by leading other people. Unfortunately Marbles just fucked it up.

A son is trying to tell his boss dad that he wanta to step up and help. I would have given a shot or a chance. At the very least give him more tasks.
He did. Son had a good solution. His friend fucked up
