Thank you for covering the game! We are now working hard to fix all issues players have reported, but it's only a matter of time before we start expanding the game with a lot more content!
@@marsneedstowels Rappin' the Gospels. That madman's got the saving love, Delivered on the winds of a shining Dove. United with the Father and the Holy Ghost Consubstantial love is saving the most
I've had this on my list for a bit now, super excited for it. I wonder how long it will be in Early Access. A lot of the reviews say there isn't a TON of content yet, so I'll probably wait, but I REALLY hope these guys can stay the course and make this what they want it to be.
You should check out the games of Soldak Entgertainment like Din's Curse and Zombasite. His worlds are always dynamic and simulated, whatever you do OR NOT DO can have impact on the world. For example if there is a quest to help someone out with medical supplies but don't do it the faction might get sick (and the sickness might spread over to other factions).
I've like what you showed us, Splat. Especially the fact it seems to be based on Mongol culture - it's different than majority of "same old" settings used by most games out there.
I like the dialogs up to now (the first scene), because the dialogs are not "theatrical" or too complicated for what people would say when in a hurry. They sound rather direct in that scene, with a bit of in-theme humor. EDIT: I also liked the speed of combat. It felt much more fluid than other turn-based. The top-down view does not feel claustrophobic (bad sentence, but you know what I mean); though the option to zoom in would be nice like you said.
"Kenshi-style." Ooh, ooh. You caught my attention _immediately!_ :) Um,... but this isn't much like Kenshi. ... OK. That's fine. It's a different game. But why _haven't_ developers copied Kenshi by now? There's still absolutely nothing like it, as far as I can tell. You know, I'd go for a game _identical_ to Kenshi, with just a different map and a different setting. I mean, I'm _still_ playing Kenshi, but I know it all by heart now. And as far as I'm concerned, the gameplay is _perfect._ (Yes, I know that's entirely subjective. It suits _me,_ but it might not suit everyone.) PS. In this game, can you move the camera (like in Kenshi?). Can you look forward, instead of right on top?
@@aaankms4450 Yes,... although my expectations will likely be sky high. And sometimes, my expectations are just _too_ high. But I'm still wondering why we haven't seen more Kenshis. Maybe it's just a niche product? Gamers seem to love it, but maybe not _enough_ of us to interest other developers? It's still an indie game. And sure, developers might not want to make a blatant copy of another game,... but some developers still do that, right? Just not with Kenshi, as far as I can tell. And as I say, I _would_ buy a blatant copy of the game. I know I shouldn't encourage things like that, but... I'd still buy it in an instant. Years ago, when I was blown away by X-Com: UFO Defense, it surprised me how few developers adopted that combat system. I loved it. But it took a long time before we saw anything like that from other developers (never a game as good as X-Com, admittedly). Oh, well, I'll stop talking now. :)
Sadly we have a hard time using is sometimes, but in other cases (like when a player tries to avoid criminal charges), we managed to give clearly different outcomes to all 4 possible results!
@@gdmnsdgl Yes! That and Pillars of Eternity, which has the partial success in combat, the graze, which we implemented too. The reasoning was that we tried to add the concept of partial success to pretty much everything we could in the game. For now it's only present in dialogues and combat, but we'll try to have it implemented in actions like picking locks, pickpocketing, and so on. This is not easy, because it also means having a "Critical Success" result, and it's hard to give all four outcomes a proper gameplay or narrative meaning.
When I saw the steam review saying its like mount and blade with battle brother I instatly brought. Just because the attempt to merge these two seems really cool
Finally, something not using the cop-out "Dark Fantasy" genre as an excuse for a dead world. This looks like it has the potential to be very good once it hits 1.0
"Kenshi-like game" "...So the deserters absolutely brutalized me and my ego is a little bit scuffed." Yep, that tracks. Go haul rocks and get strong :p
These first impressions are fun but I prefer the reviews where you already played the game for 4-5 hours before so you can talk confidently about the game mechanics.
Problem with doing this for early access means investing 5+ hours into learning the mechanics in a game when they are liable to change prior to the official release
Love your content and channel as always, I know you mainly cover indie games but it seems every single game being released lately is turn-based, crafting survival, or card based. Don't get me wrong, I love my share of those games but variety is the spice of life
I feel you, man. I've got this donut shop ran by a middle-aged Viet couple who make the best fucking kolaches you'll ever eat. A bit inconsistent, but it's a small price to pay.
I downloaded the Demo, and I have to say the font they used is practically unreadable. I can't tell what is going on with the dialog or tooltips, skills etc. This seems to have changed in the release, but you should be aware of this before trying the demo.
I'm hoping this game ends up good - it's an underrepresented genre. Looks kind of simplistic to me though, especially for combat/combat UI - dreadful even.
5:20 Yeah that looks convincing: Runs past the PC, then goes "Hey! I have to kill you!" with the back to his adversary ... . Looks like the game can only do those scripted (cutscene) moves to-location, instead of to-player. Bound to fail everytime the players gets free movement before the scene cuts in ... . 8:15 in and I must say the (dialogue) writing is awful. Most of it does not make sense in the least.
You obviously haven't watched him for long. Battle Jesus is a name he used to use on occasion for past playthroughs of other games, it's nothing new or "trying to be funny". Also, I agree with the guy above me. I see no downside

Oh I like the graphics and art style!
I love games where the AI have schedules, rather than just standing around. I wish more RPG's would do that.
lazy devs, RPGs did this 30 years ago

The injury/wound system is also a nice touch, replacing the hassle of healing HP after a fight.
It's got that Studio Ghibli look to me. Cool. The dialogue is clear and light-hearted.
Saw this pop up on a few promising indie lists so had it on my wishlist, glad to see some gameplay of it.
Jesus should definately be a sorceror. Don't forget he multiplied fish, changed water to wine, walked on water etc.
Thanks for review!

a mechanic for partial successes in video game skill checks is actually... new

From Dustborn to Dustgrave... I'm surprised that they're using a similar name even with the huge stigma attached.
