Thanks Kevin, it was my little 220 compact that steered me toward the Fenix 400 USC, it's big brother.!!!, my 220 runs at 7.44FPE and like you say the trigger takes a bit of getting used to, my only negative with the cocking was that I found the front sight quite sharp, so filled the edge off. Great rifle for the price, the 400 and the fusion maybe next on your wish list now you have sampled Cometa, you wont be disappointed 😂.

So boring to shoot a PCP from a sand bag. I own a S410 and i like it for pest control use but to shoot a springer need skills. Cheers mate!

@@rapalaron6348I only pull out a PCP for extreme long range, or high powered situations but I do have 1 set up for a repeater in target rich environments or Terminating with extreme prejudice ! 😈 Hence the Skwerlinator 2000... 😁😆😅😂🤣🤣
Generally with an HW50S or FWB I'm pretty confident out to 50/65 yards. 😊

@@marcmyers1465 Skwerlinator 😆😆😆I pull out my S410 when i need quick shots on pest or in situations i can only sit without moving a lot. For longer range or high powered situations i take my suppressed Anschutz 1416 22lr witch is more quiet than any springers own and more effective than a PCP in .22

I've never had any luck with Cometa. The guns will shoot one hole and then string out. The HW30 is about the same FPE but will outshoot everything similar. Weihrauch, BSA, Crosman and GAMO all seem to shoot straight without costing the earth. I've tried Norica, Cometa, Hatsan and many other Turkish brands without any joy. I think it's the barrels. Air Arms, Diana/RWS, FX, Daystate all shoot well but cost so much, I'd rather buy a powder burner.

I had a friend who offed me a Cometa ,he wanted £50 but when I seen it ,it was rusty and looked like it had been stored in a damp shed as the first inch of the butt was rotten, so I offered him £20 and he said yes ,spent a few days resorting the wood and reblued it ,stuck a scope on it and I was very surprised how accurate it was ,not used it since but I can't get rid of it ,stays in my locker as a back up 😊

Nice compact rifle, i have the syntetic stock. It is almost as accurate as my HW30S. You can adjust the pull weight somewhat on these (screw behind the trigger sits very deep) For ca. 200,- Eur. you cannot go wrong. This rifle deserves the fully adjustable Cometa trigger.

Given the lower velocity of this compared to the 2 I have, it would be perfect for when I shoot in my basement. Not to mention how handy it looks (I setup some paper targets and plywood at the far end of the basement from my washer and dryer, makes for something fun to do if I am waiting for either of them to finish, or when I'm bored but too lazy to go outside... and nobody can tell me no, since its actually _my_ house :D)

my steoger x20s had an adjustment screw in the trigger which did nothing because it was to short. put a longer screw in and she could be adjusted . i did a lot of mods to the steoger to make it accurate. i did a trigger mod with roller bearing, the longer adjustment screw, chamfered the breach, filled the trigger hand grip up with cheep lead pellets to help with recoil giving more weight, i took the integrated suppressor off, cut of the coarse threaded part on the barrel which the suppressor screwed onto, re-crowned the barrel , fitted a 13mm slip on silencer adaptor and made a barrel weight to screw on to the silencer adaptor, fitted a new titan xs spring and she's now one of my favourite riffles, she knocks magpies and grows out of treetops 30-35 meters without fail on cheap 16 grain spitfire doomed pellets.

Hi Kevin, great to see a review on the Cometa 220 air rifle in .177 caliber. I too, own one of these and I have the same grouping as you have here.
I was so pleased with this Cometa, that since I bought this one, I have now bought the model 100 in 177, which is a dandy back yard plinker I also have the Fenix Premier Star in .177 and a model 300 in .22 which I have yet to get to the range with..
These Air Rifles by Cometa are great rifles and am well pleased with their performance.
I think you're 'spot on' when you say the model 220 is" the poor man's HW30, and it does indeed have a bit more spring 'twang' than the 220 .
Enjoyable video indeed, and I hope you can get some of the other Cometa rifles from time to time, so we can see more reviews on the really good Cometa rifles which are also built in Spain.

I just got a COMETA FENIX 400 USC PREMIER STAR .25 caliber delivered on April-3-24 The weather has been terrible here in Michigan, winds 14-18 m.p.h. or has rained on and off, I knew i needed to break in the barrel reguardless of the weather, so i spent these days shooting a total of 700 rounds of JSB 25.39 grain pellets, I didn't care how accurate it was because the wind interfeired so much. I got up this morning early, NO WIND BLOWING, I quickly set up a target at 10 yards to completely start over, This time i switched to H&N Field Target Trophy 20.06 grain pellets, I sighted in as i shot, and eventually hit dead center shot after shot, Then moved the target to 15 yards, and did the same thing, shot after shot in same hole..My scope is a Leapers 14:29 compact 3x12x44 with high 30 mm leapers rings. Guess what?, When i finished at 15 yards, HERE COMES MORE wind, and rain. Im going to wait for a calm day to finish sighting it in.

My Cometa 220 in .177 finally arrived, The gun was perfect except for the rear sights fibre optic pins. They were not properly installed at the factory, and fell out, one was broken., So I ended up removing the open sights altogether. After cleaning the gun, I put the Hawke 4x32 A/O scope on it with high 1 inch rings, so went outside and started out at 10 yards, then 15vyards, then 17 and 20 yards, Holy cow, this thing is truly accurate using RWS Hobby 7.00 grain pellets. The trigger was pulled slow and easy each time. Accuracy sells guns, would I buy another one just like it? You'd better believe I would. (It's that accurate) Tomorrow, I will finish sighting it in at 25 yards.

The triggers spring NEEDS replaced with a lighter spring, after that the screw for the adjustment will work like it should! it will give a short 1st pull length and a solid wall, that breaks thur like nothing! also the front sight is removable, you can unscrew the end cap on the moderator and the sight drops out! • @razor1962
      @razor1962  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

l try to make a point of stating the manufacturer's claims of cocking effort on some of the guns that I feature. I have no real way of measuring the cocking force myself and often times the information isn't available online. When it is, I usually try to remember to provide the number.
As far as the decibel numbers are concerned, I find those meters to be of little use. Too many factors come into play. Environment being the most influential. Proximity to the muzzle and ambient noise will also affect the readings. Decibel meters, in my opinion, provide very little useful information.

    Nice review Kevin 👍
I wish you'd have given us a flyby of both sides of the gun; that looks to be some gorgeous beechwood 😅😁👍
A question or two if I may Kevin...
Do you find the wood stocks on these Cometas comfortable to shoot left-handed? Also, how is that odd-looking orange front sight? I was wondering how it might pair with a peep rear sight...thanks in advance for any insight you can give me...👍🙂
I did get to try out my tuned Cometa Galaxy 220 for the first time yesterday, and shot my Norica Dragon some more the day prior.
The Cometa is lighter, handier, and much nicer to cock. Its sights are also larger and quicker to acquire, and it seems to have a more open, easier to load chamber than the larger, more powerful Dragon.
Conversely, the Norica boasts a better stock, sights, and perhaps a bit nicer trigger as well. It also comes with a scope stop where the Cometa does not. My buddy did lube the internals on the Norica for me, and I believe he polished the trigger sear surfaces as well; as a result, I believe the firing behavior is relatively comparable between the two rifles - both are pretty smooth, with no real twang or buzz & a quick shot cycle 👍 The Dragon does have a bit more recoil as might be expected.
Cocking the Norica is much improved since my buddy worked it over, but the gun was dead flat to shoot right out of the box from Pyramid Air..
I was very surprised by this, and it felt smoother than some of my gas rams...😳😅👍
Overall, it does indeed seem that Jon knows what he's doing, but my Norica also seems to have a lot going for it in the value department as well...🙂👍
Time will tell how the Norica holds up, but I am expecting no issues out of the Cometa from Jon...
Always a pleasure Kevin...take care and sorry for my ramblings...😅😃👍😮

    • @razor1962
      @razor1962  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Nate,
The good news is that the opposite side of the rifle looks exactly like the side that you saw.🤣 It truly is gorgeous beechwood, which, in a way, is an oxymoron.
I think that it's the stain that they chose to bring out what little grain that beech has to offer. It really does make for a very attractive rifle.
The front sight should work quite well with a peep, provided you choose the correct height. Williams makes a good one with a dovetail mount.
The best way that I can answer your question regarding the stock fitting a lefty is that I never noticed any awkwardness when shouldering the rifle. If there had been a fit issue, I would've noticed.
I'm impressed with the Cometa 220. If the rest of their line is of the same quality, I'd be very interested in taking a look at some others in their line.
I have zero experience with Norica either, so I'm curious to check them out.
      Thanks as always, my friend.

@@razor1962 Thank you kindly Kevin 👍 I do in fact have a Williams 5D-AG peep, the high sight line model, which I believe is the only one they currently offer...
I share your concerns about the potential vulnerability of that front sight, and wonder if it might get in the way when cocking the gun....it does appear finer than the sight on my Galaxy 220 though.
      As a cross-eye-dominant shooter, I appreciate the left-shoulder shooting feedback quite a lot 🙂👍
Regarding Cometa, I think their Galaxy 220 and 400 are probably the most bang for the buck in their lineup, though I'm not especially impressed with their synthetic stocks overall.
I would love to try one of the 400 Star models too, as those adjustable stocks look great; Jon also told me they are bringing in at least a small run of 400s with the grey laminated stock & I'd suggest snagging one from him if they do, as it is a great looking laminate for sure 👍😁
Regarding Norica, you might like their Magnum Pro rifle, as it is similar to the Cometa you have but with more power and a synthetic stock. Norica has probably the very best fiber optic sights I've ever used, besting even Gamo in that regard.
If you end up wanting to try a Norica out before buying, let me know & perhaps you can borrow my Dragon for a while to play around with...👍
      Take it easy Kevin 👍🙂
