- In this video we'll take a close look at the Cometa Fenix 400 USC.
This rifle really impressed me. Especially, at it's price tag. Powerful, lightweight, compact size and ACCURATE!
In my opinion, this is an ideal small game gun. - กีฬา
It's good that manufacturers like Cometa are shaking up the market and hopefully putting pressure on other established brands. Cometa has had a good reputation for over 15 years and many people are very satisfied with it. Good choice!
Thank you, my friend. Always a pleasure, sir.
Had mine a good few months now Kevin and after tuning the trigger to my liking, boy am I happy with the rifle. I first thought about these rifles after watching big Dan's airgun reviews. He is a British gunshop owner give his you tube channel a look. He gets some incredible accuracy from these rifles. The more I shoot mine the better it gets, remember here in the uk we have the 12ftlb limit, yet still I am dropping 1 inch spinners at a best of 61 yards at the moment, most of the shots covered just 3/4 of an inch I am blown away. I have many hw rifles and out of the box out shoots them. Never have I shot so well with an out the box rifle before. But everything can be improved on so my rifle is going away to be short stroked, "we don't need all that swept volume to make 12ftlbs". So machined buttons, slightly reduce the piston weight and add short stroke head fit custom seal, new custom spring with new steel guides with pre load washer so the spring can turn when fired, then a nice coat of cerokote to give it that all weather protection, it is going to be my hunting rifle. Great video as always Kevin just one thing to ask buddy is that a metal trigger blade, there is a Spanish fella on Facebook cometa sight that make an amazing set back trigger in Ali, but he is not selling them at the moment but they are works of art and he does a matching trigger guard. Anyhow Kevin loving what you do cheers.
Thanks, Robert. Yes, it's a metal trigger. I think the newer 400s are coming in like that. I'm not sure, though.
Thanks so much for your viewership.
Greetings from Greece!
Many thanks for the video.
Cometa airguns are fantastic and I would recommend them to any airgun enthusiast, such as yourself.
Really enjoying every review and very much like your range.
Many regards.
Thanks very much, my friend. I sincerely appreciate your viewership.
This is how awesome John at Keystone Airguns is. Ordered a 100. Turned out it wasn't accurate, indeed all 100s he had weren't accurate. So he took that model off the website. And offered me a free upgrade to a 220! Definitely getting more Cometas from Keystone!
Great testimonial, Brett. Jon's a great guy. It won't take him long to build a solid reputation.
Great video Kevin 👍Awesome rifle 😁 I heard before that Cometa makes some very good quality airgun models for the money and is in my opinion better than the other Spanish made brands. I spoiled my self with HW's and i've not been very interested in other brands, but this is the first time i have to scratch behind my ear......🤔 Cheers my friend!
Thanks, Ron. It's a good solid rifle on its own merits. It's a fantastic rifle when you factor in the price.
What a lovely piece of timber that stock is. You certainly won the lottery with that one, beautiful 😊👍
Thanks very much. I have to agree she's a looker.
Thanks Kevin I think in a senior moment I credited the Fenix to Norica some weeks ago in a comment. I have owned my Fenix 400 star at least ten years now and it was second hand when I purchased it at auction. Like you I was very impressed with this gun and have sung it's praises ever since people look at me as if I am quite touched in the head shake their head and shuffle off muttering cheap Spanish rubbish cant be worth a dam. More fool them non so blind as them that wont see.. Dan of Big Dans Airguns tells me he gets the same response, he has a review of this gun on his channel. My gun is a coil spring version in .22 not pellet fussy but loves JSB's and wad cutters.Strangely I was putting a few pellets through it yesterday, it is such a satisfying gun to shoot. Not sure there is much to add to your report really , the piston in mine had not been deburred prior to hardening and needed dressing. and it is worth experimenting with piston seals I run a TX200 genuine piston seal in mine. This gun is ripe for tuning and custom parts and in my opinion thoroughly deserves such. , but nobody listens to silly old buggers like me.
I'm listening, David. Who's piston seal are you using, or is it an OEM seal?
Thanks as always, my friend.
@@razor1962 OEM Kevin the translucent jello type seal. I don't know if AA still use them or not, just checked on chambers yes still the same part number tx330 if I still had access to a lathe think I would convert piston seal to FWB124/7/ BSA supersport [old style] seals terry rob makes a really good replacement. buttons might smooth things a little and replacing plastic trigger parts with steel up grades may not improve things but would certainly improve looks, there are few triggers built that cant be improved with a little work. I also think replacing the moderator unit with the armex back draft unit would improve the gun for sporting purposes, the standard unit not bad but I think the Armex unit better.. Have you access to a .25 Fenix ??I would quite like one any chance you could check one out for us. by the way that stock quite a stunner and has been slightly restyled since my one was made.looks better than mine in style I approve. And you are right a decent sling set would make this a great gun for small game.
muy bueno el video kevin, me alegro que te guste el rifle. en tus manos es muy preciso . para mí cometa es en España la mejor marca . gracias por tu tiempo. saludos desde GRANADA ( (España)
Well, considering that you are in Spain yourself, you of all people should know that Cometa is a fine gun. I'd have to agree with you. Thanks as always, my friend.
July-3-24 I got my 400 USC in .177 caliber, This is my 3rd Cometa i bought from Keystone Airguns in Pennsylvania, much to my surprise it had the metal trigger on it, (gold colored) i thought it had a plastic trigger, but am happy it had the metal trigger...I use H&N field target trophy pellets in it, 8.64 grains., I put a 3x12x44 Accushot Swat compact scope with 30 mm tube on it with high rings, and put the first target at 15 yards, much to my surprise again, this trigger was better than my other 2 cometas, ...i got to shooting and realized WOW! Why is this gun so accurate this fast?...So, being satisfied with the first target, i set it out further, after shooting , and adjusting the scope at this distance, i was thinking the same thing again..so, i set the last final target up at 27 yards and made a few scope adjustments as i shot....The more dots i shot convinced me that Maybe John through in a free tune.? I couldn't stop shooting because i was having a ball....Im still wondering here...
Awesome! So glad to hear that you're pleased with the rifle.
Real pretty gun! I had my 300 USC out again this weekend and it was doing great!
Hey, Nibs. Always a pleasure, my friend. The Cometas seem to have no problem with accuracy.
Thanks Kevin, my Cometa Fusion is the most accurate gun I own bar none even with it's plastic trigger it outshoots all my others, luckily I'm not a gun snob. Personally (my taste) I think most of their other guns are ruined by huge ugly foresights (ditto Diana) but the Fusion and 400 USC escape this. They are a long established company who make their own cold forged barrels and deserve a bit more publicity. Anyone getting the chance to use one will not regret it, and they aren't expensive, try one. I forgot, in addition there is a lifetime guarantee, where are you Air Arms and Weihrauch?
Good point, David. Nothing says confidence in your product than to offer such a warranty. I wasn't aware of that detail. Thanks very much.
@@razor1962 Try a Fusion in .177 sub 12 ft/lbs higher powers might be different, you can pick them up new in lower specs very reasonably. I was at the range today and my Fusion outshot my hw77 and 98, perhaps I have a good one?
I love the look of this gun , I got intouch with John at keystone a while back but he was waiting for a delivery, then that got delayed and I went down the rabbit hole of my diana 34.22 which was shooting vertical strings I then started looking at the weihrauch hw95 N field pro which was in stock and ended up buying, that little usc is a fine looking little gun though
You'll no doubt enjoy the 95. It's a wonderful rifle. There's always room for "one more" rifle. No reason you can't have both...🤫
You remind me of Captain Louis P. Wise, Fort Jackson S.C. 1969.He taught sight picture and trigger squeeze. It should be a complete surprise when the rifle fires he would say. That's meant to be a compliment.....Thank you!
Thanks, Ron. I'll take it as such. Thank you very much, my friend.
Very nice review. I was saving my pennies to buy an hw95 and I think you saved me a lot if those pennies in leaning towards purchasing this gem instead
It's a great gun. There's a big jump in price when you go to the R9. The biggest advantage of the R9 is its Rekord trigger. The Fenix has a very good trigger. The Weihrauch has an exquisite trigger. Thanks for watching.
Nice lump of walnut on that one mate, the cometa's are getting good reviews from uk users too.
I can certainly understand why. You get a lot of gun for your money.
Nice rifle! At that weight, with that muzzle brake, classic Trophy scope and especially with the gold trigger, yours is nearly an homage to the Beeman R9 Goldfinger from the 90's. Shoots like one too! 👍
Thanks, Brian. Good to see you here.
Beautiful gun
Great looking rifle and like you said very quiet. And just to add to the pot accurate. Great review..
Thank you, my friend. Always a pleasure, sir
Glad to see you shooting again. Beautiful rifle. The new bell sounds great. Probably not much to tune on the gas ram version. I hope all is well Kevin.
Thanks, Ken. Always a pleasure, my friend.
Had this gun. Second hand spring chewed aluminium trigger block n jammed trigger/safety. Put a steel washer in. Finished the spring off nice as you taught me. Lovely then the bloke brought it back off me. Nice gun trigger not as good as HW. Result .❤
Ah, so you had the spring version. You're one hundred percent correct. The Cometa trigger is no match for the Rekord, but then again, not many are.
Thanks for watching, my friend.
Another excellent video lovely rifle, and excellent shooting Thanks for the hard work Kevin .
Thank you, David. Always a pleasure, sir.
Hi Kevin, Great Review as always my friend, nice Rifle and beautiful stock too
She sure is a pretty one. I have to agree with you there. Thanks, Steve.
Good review. Breathtaking trigger pressure. Strange that this brand and Norica with their latest Omnia ZRS cannot get a foothold here in my country and in my neighboring country, the Netherlands. In addition to Gamo in particular, it is no problem for us to have Diana. Weihrauch, Crosman, Umarex, Aracuda, Daisy, Bsa, and other brands that appear on American reviews. And upon inspection, this Cometa with wooden stock is not pricey according to European standards. But I am especially jealous of your high shooting spot and ditto bench with a breathtaking view of nature that is gradually reaching its peak. I can even imagine the sweet oxygenated air. Lucky boy, that's for sure.
Thanks so much, my friend.
With regard to the availability of Cometa guns in the Netherlands, my friend Jon at Keystone Airguns here in the States noticed a void in the availability of Cometa products here as well. He contacted Cometa about becoming a US distributor.
Perhaps someone in your corner of the world will do the same...🤞
@@razor1962 I'm living in 🇧🇪 and it's no problem to buy in Europe. In the worst case the shipping costs are 15 dollars, in some cases (purchase price) free. For once I will be proud of Europe because the best breakbarrels and pellets are made here. I think that you, as an old hand in the business, know which brands I am talking about. Have fun with your Cometa. I promised myself not to buy any more airrifles and "for the time being" I am keeping my promise. Stay strong and shoot straight, safe and secure.
Cometa is very old Spanish brand (founded in 1860s or so). They are proud to make all their air rifles in Spain. Cometa is especially proud of the air rifle barrels. They try to make everything in their country, unlike other "made in PRC" brands.
Cometa 220 and it's bigger brother 400 are brilliant.
On the other hand, Cometa 300, or recent batch of them are a bit iffy. Bad spring quality, they tend to break.
Great products at a very attractive price.
great video my friend you have sold me on it. Thanks for commenting on my on my post over on Ricks channel about this air rifle I will be definitely picking on eup for sure.
Great! I'm certain that you'll be very pleased with your new rifle. Thanks for watching.
@@razor1962 Wellthanks for the insite and recommendation of this air rifle I look foward to getting one.
What!!! does it have a golden metaltrigger? Mine only have plastictrigger! Mine is springcoil version. Love my Fenix 400 even if it has plastictrigger. Good that you love the Cometa, they are excellent guns!
I was impressed, to say the least. Jon should be getting the metal trigger upgrades in soon. At least I think that I remember him saying that. Shoot him an email.

Congratulations 👏🎉 on 6000 Subscribers, Kevin. 🎉👏...😁👍
Thanks, Marc.
Absolutely right on the triger, my USC is very creepy, even with countless attempts with the 2 screws it's still creepy, even with around 1lb.........the same trigger unit on my 400 Fusion I adjusted too light, had a barrel flip up and cracked the stock.!!! Lesson learnt........I may look now into the spring change within the trigger unit now so thanks for the video. As long as it's better than the non adjustable trigger on the 300, I'll be happy.
Be very careful if you're planning on messing around with those springs.
Thanks for watching, my friend.
Beautiful stock. Sleek looking modern design. Compact shooting gun. ScottPa.
It really is an ideal squirrel rifle for the type of woods that I'm used to.
The weight is what drives it home for me. I'm a firm believer that lighter is better when it comes to a "field gun."
Thanks for watching, Scott.
Very nice rifle. I had missed out on the .22 version GR. Oh, well. Thank you for sharing, Kevin.
My pleasure, and as always, thanks for watching, my friend.
I Like It ! 😃👍 Nice olde Bushnell Trophy on there too. 😉
Thanks, Marc. It truly is impressive. Especially when you factor in the price tag.
HOLA KEVIN, LA MARCA COMETA ES LA MEJOR DE LOS FABRICANTES ESPAÑOLES,TENGO UNA COMETA FENIX QUE ME ENCANTA,TAMBIEN TENGO WEHRAUCH, PERO COMETA VA MUY BIEN. SALUDOS DESDE ESPAÑA. 👍🏼🤝
Hello to you, my friend. The Cometa guns are a testament to the quality products that Spain has to offer. I am so glad that my friend Jon decided to take on the line. I may have never gotten my hands on one.
Thanks as always, my friend.
Good guns.
You can get the tiny bit of creep out of the trigger using the little grub screw just behind the trigger (not the big one, that changes the pull weight).
Thanks, David. I've been playing around with that screw I think I've got it pretty close to where I want it now.
@@razor1962 Excellent. I'm currently looking at getting a Cometa, a friend has one and his has absolutely zero creep in the second stage, it's pretty close to being as good as the Rekord trigger-group on my Weihrauch and it took him two minutes to get it so. They're well priced and very elegant rifles that shoot the tightest groups you can get.
Thanks for the vid, appreciate your work.
@@davidpaylor5666 Great guns at an attractive price. Thanks again, David.
great shooting Kevin! By the way, what is that scope your using?
Thanks, John. That's an old Bushnell Trophy 4-12.
Thanks for watching, my friend.
She's beautiful !
The UK spring powered version has no twang but instead a satisfying ping noise when fired at least my .177 one does so i am not going to interfere with it .
Nope. Don't mess with if it's performing to your satisfaction.
I’m here .. good shooting Kevin , how is it on the shoulder ? I got a shot in mine no rotator cuffs but damage . My cat had to put down very sick .. what a week
I'm sorry to hear about your cat, Peter. If you were as attached to yours as I am of mine, I can only imagine the sadness.
The Fenix gas ram is stout, but I've got worn out shoulders, too, and I was able to shoot for long sessions without any regrets later on.
Hang in there, my friend.
@@razor1962 thank you Kevin
I think you hit Lucky with the grain, nice bit of wood.
That is a light trigger, similar to my older Anschutz 54 super match, from memory it's 90g!
I've never shot a gas ram before, I'm curious. I can only find spring powered in the UK at a quick look. Seems good value £320 over here for that style, about £250 for standard rifle with beech stock.
Thanks, Mick. I plan on finding a slightly heavier spring for that trigger. Ideally, I'd like it to be just over 1lb.
The more I shoot gas ram guns, the more I like gas ram guns.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.
Thanks as always, my friend.
@@razor1962 I might keep my eye out for a cheaper gas ram to try.
Thank you for the review! Is the trigger metal? Does it come as such from factory?
To be sure, I'd recommend that you reach out to Jon at Keystone Airguns and confirm. However, I am under the impression that the newer 400s are fitted with the metal trigger.

Kevin can you tell us how many airguns you have in your collection. I'm also a airgun collector for over twenty five years and acquired over two hundred airguns in my personal collection fifty three being pcp great reviews as always.
Ti be perfectly honest with you, Nicholas, I have no idea how many airguns that I own. I can, however, confidently say that it's nowhere near two hundred.
It's a sickness, my friend and I'm in no hurry to find the cure....
Keep collecting Kevin its a fantastic obsession stay safe my friend
Kevin now that i watched this video twice, i got another question for you. With a light trigger like that, does that mean the safety is less effective on the airgun? I guess my question is. Does the safety work just the same as if it was a heavy trigger or a light trigger pull? Thanks
Good question, Steve. While a lighter spring makes the trigger lighter, it does not interfere with the safety working properly. However, there is a slightly higher risk that the safety could be disengaged unwittingly because the tension on the safety lever itself is also lessened, meaning that it requires much less force to operate and there's less feedback when it engages or disengages. I hope that makes sense.
@@razor1962 Thank you , yes that makes sense
I forgot to add i think mine is a springer, ?
Either way, great gun!
Tight group sir, in india we have a exact similar model by precihole nx200 karbin, similar looks and exactly same power of 16 j , obviously not as beautiful as this one but other than that almost same in Nitro piston and available only in 177 cal , Just curious how these shorter barrel shoots so well 🥰🤟
It's not always about barrel length. It's more about barrel quality. I've seen some pretty impressive pistol shooting. Thanks so much for watching, my friend.
@@razor1962 well said sir 🥰 i totally agree 👍👌
BSA superstar .22 god or bad. Please 🙏
Are you referring to the rotary breech, underlever Superstar of day gone by?
The older BSA guns were gems. Built with British craftsmanship and pride. The result was a solid, reliable, and high-quality product. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any Birmingham made BSAs.
Excellent Rifle ! 😙👌

Sorry to burst that bubble of yours, my friend, but you might want to take another look at the specs...
@@razor1962 sorry but hw 30/35/50 are about the same price as cometa. At least in my country. Also no spare parts, only the seals ate avaiable
Different story around here, my friend.
"Where are you based? I presume if your gun shops are charging HW prices for Cometa guns that they are paying huge import taxes on Spanish products that or your local shop just a rip off merchant. No spares what more would you need than seals and springs unless you are one of those people that takes guns apart and loose all the bits. Seals and springs easy to get plenty of after market produce to fit this gun.. As for looks dont they say beauty in the eye of the beholder. And HW 35's are built with power soaks in the breech end of the cylinder, they will never provide the same performance, have nothing against them I own several E's and a luxus all lovely looking guns but in truth the Fenix 400 star out shoots them all both in terms of power and accuracy.
