How to start overlanding: Porsche Cayenne overland setup & cost

- So you want to know what is the best vehicle for overlanding? People don't usually consider the Porsche Cayenne when looking for an overlanding vehicle so this video show why I chose a 2006 Porsche Cayenne S Titanium as my overland vehicle, what I love about it and how much it cost to setup a porsche suv for overlanding. Overlanding is self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, it is accomplished with mechanized off-road-capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping, often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and spanning international boundaries.

I enjoyed your video. A few friendly suggestions that I use that work well.
Coleman multi fuel stove instead of your propane. You can use white gas OR unleaded fuel. Then you wouldn't have to lug the 20 lbs LP canister.
Wolverine Tuff 5 gallon water bags. They are tough and collapse down. I got that idea from Tito youtube, he shows DIY RV installs.
And lastly Springbar tent. 10 ft by 10 ft. They stand up to you name it, wind snow, hail... and I can set it up by myself in like 10-15 minutes.
I am not suggesting you get rid of your $2400 roof tent. But for other folks...

Camped close to you at Redmond Gambler 500 in the HooptieX pits. I think somehow you psychosomaticaly influenced me since I recently purchased a 2014 gts. Now outfitting it for overlanding and will use some of your recommendations. Rolled my buddies Utv there so now I still need to build a hooptie x car. Hope to see you in Redmond!
I used to run 18” AT on my Cayenne, but since you have 20” rims. I have gone back to 20” AT tires. Look for cooper LTZ 275/45R20 tires, they will be good for your truck.
Dope build. I think the Cayenne’s are about to get more expensive. Why not an electric range since batt/solar panel is already in your setup?

its built by polaris trailers 14' long and I think 6'6" wide. I'm actually trying to find one for myself since I was just borrowing this one from my dad
there is a build in aircompressor in the cayenne , you can use aswell, also when your battery is dead it works, the hose is under the backseat and the connecting point is under the passenger seat.
might have been an optional upgrade. mine doesn't have it. would be cool though!
does the overhang annoy you at all? im considering the skyloft tent and the smitty built. the skyloft seems beter but the closed footprint of the smittybuilt wouldnt hang over the front of the car roof, its also bigger footprint once opened
You don't see the overhang at all while driving so I can't say it annoys me. It does look a little goofy and takes away 3-4 mpg, but I imagine most tents will. I do love not having to unfold it though. So easy to set up, 30 seconds and you're done. And we've never wished we had a bigger footprint, plenty of room for 2 of us and the dog.
in your list of equipment, the rooftop tent is missing. Or am I missing something? I would like to know what you use. It would also be helpful to see exactly how you set it up and take it down. Nobody ever shows that.

It’s from a company called Keepitfvn unfortunately I had a poor customer service experience so I can’t recommend them
My 2004 Cayenne S is averaging 13MPG. I guess it’s still better than an RV.

How much millage the Cayenne has?
I bought it with 193k i think its over 220 now
@@dylanpfohl I'm going for a V6, maybe has 186k I was worried if it was too much. But every video everyone has high millage Cayenne's.
Also you should def alter these numbers lol. $3k is not real world for a Cayenne in good working order, as you admitted. I’d say min $6k
