I own a 2019 Cayenne Turbo, best all round daily driver on this planet. Quicker than my 911 was, as comfortable and luxurious as an S class, can tow 7000 lbs, amazing off road, zero squeaks or rattles ue to Porsches unequaled build quality. As said well in Indiana Jones.. you have chosen wisely.
I have spent some 15 years or more overlanding in an 80-series land cruiser, then bought another one, then my son bought a 100-series and I bought a Cayenne. I must admit that I am surprised. Of course, that thing is smaller but it handles like a train on rails, it is very comfortable and actually capable off-road. My son destroys absolutely everything (he's been through a few surrons, dirt bikes, a Silverado etc) and after 30K miles driving the Cayenne and doing absolutely poor/ghetto maintenance, it works great. That's a keeper and a welcome surprise. The base trim, which I have, is kind of slow but much more simple and more than enough for overlanding.
Hey bud, While I may not be into overlanding, I am in love with my 958 Cayenne S. Easy to maintain, Crazy good performance, and So damn comfortable. Your 957 will treat you well! She looks incredible.
No one can deny, it’s a killer looking rig! Porsche’s traction control system and GOOD set of tires will take 90% of adventure seekers anywhere they wanna go… and it in luxurious comfort and style.
I just found your channel after purchasing a 955 Cayenne S that I'm thinking of converting to a mild offroad build. Your footage is fantastic! Really beautiful work. Very inspiring. The build looks great, too!! As of now I'm leaning toward a little lift and wheels/tires that won't require cutting fenders or removing bumpers. It's going to be a daily and a work vehicle so don't want it to be too aggressive. Again, great job.
Please make a video with your impressions of driving the Porsche. How does it feel on the road compared to the Toyota, cruising, wind noise, fuel consumption, at high speed, on a twisty road, etc. What about in town driving. Does it struggle while overlanding ? What are the things you like and dislike about the Porsche? I am really interested about this topic. Thanks.
Incredibly well made video man! the only gripe I have is that the audio seemed extremely soft through my headphones at max volume (even though the ad before it was loud). I really liked the whole no nonsense vibe with just straight storytelling. Keep it up man and I hope to see more videos from you in the future!
Sick build! Don’t listen to the haters. Most do not understand that Cayenne ownership isn’t as costly as they think. Also that money put into making a good rig is just about the same as all of the other common builds out there.
Love the build man! Glad you chose the VR6. Definitely the most reliable option and even though it's a base model (290hp) it still has more power than your old Tacoma lol. I have the exact same spec :)
Thank you! It 100% was the best choice, VR6 on coils! With gear and 33x12.5s I was getting 17mpg😂 and I can actually pass people on the hwy lol very happy with how this turned out
I’m about to do the same! I have fallen in love with these over lander builds. I’m probably going to get an 04-08 S or turbo S with steel springs and added horsepower. I didn’t realize that base models were just as capable as the S and turbo models. Great video by the way and as a fellow videographer your shots were amazing. I look forward to seeing your other videos. Keep up the great work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
That looks awesome I would have to have buddys I that could help me out with this and to work on this thing at a good discount love that you have created
First Gen Porsche Cayenne is a legend in the making in the off road world. Super capable and luxurious drive on pavement. Neither Toyota or Jeep can touch that.
@@Samoffgridtotally agree. And I have owned multiple versions of all 3. Jeep is a one trick pony… Toyota is better on highway but still miles away from a Porsche drive on pavement.
Subbed. Most wouldn't do what you did just because of the thought of maintenance costs on that ting. Genuinely interested to see how that rig performs for you.
Great video I got a 2009 Cayenne with 3.6 motor and I am getting ready to install eurowise 2.5” lift but I am second guessing if I should go with a 2008 Cayenne S instead
GREAT CHOICE! If you can locate them, Porsche made steel suspension arms and lower subframe parts in steel for the Transsyberia variant of this 2nd gen Cayenne. I like the choice of boring V6 vs V8 S & Turbo model on account of mileage, simplicity of the engine, and the fact that it’s the relatively common world wide VR6 from VW. The V8’s have myriad maintenance upkeep items and just overall complexity that I image the V6 simplifies. Awesome example! You inspire me. Please take it many places and don’t be afraid to break it, the Porsche community is amazing for alterations and upgrades, find the weak links and tell us about it. I love the Cayenne but never really appreciated it until I realized how attainable they are, and how capable they always have been. Great choice. Many many safe journeys for you in the Cayenne.
Great choice in putting money into upgrading the BOLT ON brakes from a Turbo. Porsche has great interchangeability with parts, with lots of upgrade potential when it comes time to service it. Porsche parts are the best, go aftermarket only in extremes.
1:48 how much smaller wheel/tire diameter would you have been limited to if you decided not to cut anything? I never recommend cutting, what was the alternative wheel choice which would have fit the 2” lift with no cutting?
Nice work dude , I am not much into over landing as much as in mountain pass driving but this video introduced me to this new thing with nice presentation , you are getting a new subscriber and I am gaining a new intrest. Best of luck
How good are these actually offroad? I have been considering getting rid of my Disco 4 for one but don't want to go backwards in towing/offroad capability.. Sweet video by the way
i was looking at a 2000 Hilux 4Runner... lol thank you for this video! Now I want a 2008 Porsche Cayenne. Both are about the same price here in brazil.
Hey man, great build! I'm wondering if you could show the electircal work/wiring for the lights a bit? I'm struggling with that on my build. I would be pleased if you could help out, since there isn't that much information about that in the internet. Greetings from Germany.
Hey cool build, now show us some trips you do in it and show the performance of the build. The builds are good and all but the trip is what you built it for 😎
Hey mate thanks for the video, could you please tell me which models had the transfer case and diff locks? Also aren't these Cayenne inherently unreliable?? Cheers Steve.
Too good of editing and narrating to only have 2300 subscribers. When you make it out to Oregon I'd film some shots for ya. Getting up to summit lake from crescent lake is lots of fun, at least before the skeeters hatch. 5mph max for 10miles of switchbacks.
reaching the end of the tunnel on my road less traveled 2012 Q7 TDi build with Eurowise stuff. Mounting the a SuperWinch 12k this weekend on a Eurowise winch mount bumper.
This looks so cool! Well done. I was thinking about putting a spacer lift on my unibody SUV but I read that it causes extra wear on the ball joints and can cause the suspension to fail. Probably fine for riding around town but risky for overloading/offroading. Is this a real concern or is it overblown?
I could do that! The quick synopsis however is that Toyota doesn’t compare even slightly to the driving experience that the Porsche offers. The Tacoma is overly built and will take you literally anywhere you need to go but is almost a chore to drive.
Thanks! The wheels are 18x9, +25 offset and those are Mesh’s from EF wheels (owned by Eurowise). The tires are true 33x12.5” Toyo RT trails! Not sure what year yours is but I’m sure you’d have to relocate intercoolers and do some trimming to fit them
Really cool looking vehicle, not sure however that the Porsche's chassis and body are made to survive such "Real Off-Road" challenges. It's a Sports Utility Vehicle which was never really meant to see anything off-road apart from your front lawn. Hope it works out for you. I really like it 👍
Don’t listen to these naysayers. I have run both and honestly the Porsche is more solid, reliable, and easier to work on plus the driving experience is greatly enhanced. The Toyota had more diabolical engineering mysteries, sloppy fitment troubles, and more things to scratch my head over or curse about. You made a good decision
Hey dude what size wheels did you go with? Love the stance and look of yours. I'm currently building a wrecked cayenne I picked up and am already looking at wheels/tires 😂
Yes, correct! This had 130k miles on it and I went with the VR6 for reliability vs the turbos and parts availability being that it's a VW engine. It still makes about 300 hp and hasn't felt underpowered at all! If I were to do it again id probably go with the S, so the NA V8.
What was the tire size on this? I’ve in a 2010 S trim. It’s been great. Endless maintenance and repair but never left me stranded. 160,000kms and runs like new still. I’m on the fence of freshening up with a new look or upgrade to newer.
that rig looks absolutely badass, like a rally car. But I trust Porsche reliability about as far as I can throw it. Hopefully it's got you home in one piece.

These 957s actually have a center locker and low range. You'd definitely add more Offroad capability by adding a rear or front locker
Amazing! cool car and color! Is the stock color? Or what color code is it?
Thank you! It is, it’s olive green metallic, code M6U!
Out of curiosity, what made you decide on the base motor Cayenne over the V8?
Availability with the car and engine parts availability being that it's a VW motor! If I were to do it again id probably go with an S and the NA V8
