Looove the basketball content/improvement. Always fun to see development and the process. Definitely hard to manage and easy to get into your own head. Think the mental game is half the battle. Also was about to talk about your guide hand issues but you pointed it out. It’s an extremely difficult thing to fix. There are some thumb shooters like Kyrie and Trae but majority of people don’t do it intentionally. If you ever want to flatten your guide hand and not use your thumb, stick a coin in the purlicue so then it’s between your thumb and index finger. I have a video of how I fixed my little brothers shot which I can send you if you are interested. Again awesome video!
Practicing shooting just with one hand to get the form right, close to the basket and without the guiding hand is great at building muscle memory on how the ball should feel in your hand when you shoot.
I could tell in the final attempt that you were significantly more relaxed when shooting. I had noticed in the other basketball videos that you would always look so tense, when dribbling, jab stepping and shooting. While there are many different styles of playing basketball, you can sometimes tell how good someone is based on the way their body moves with that ball in their possession, and you definitely looked like a more proficient shooter by the end of the video. Maybe the next basketball challenge should be to change your "basketball body language" for lack of a better term. Not everyone has to "look" the same when they play ball, but maybe finding a basketball player, with similar proportions of legs/arms/torso to you, and their playing style to model yours after would be an interesting challenge
If you watch how your brother shoots at 8:03, you can see that he is more relaxed and his release is way more fluid. As someone who can literally only shoot, I think finding a fluid motion that suits you is the most important thing. Then do micro adjustments to that so that you make that form consistent. I know bball drill purists are gonna hate me but for me, shooting is more feel than anything, and you can see that in the NBA, everybody shoots similarly but differently at the same time. Also, on release try to touch your wrist with your fingers, this might help.
I am also in the process of fixing my jumpshot. I have had to change it several times to find something that was comfortable and works well. While I still have hours and days of work ahead of me to master it I can feel the improvement from the time o have been doing it. Never thought o could teach myself to shoot.
Biggest advice would be to relax, your body is so tense. When you see you shooting from behind you can see all the tension you have. Implementing more of a turn so that you hip, elbow, and shoulder are aligned could help you work with your body, not against it.
A huge problem, a key flaw in fact, in your shot is the release. You tend to fling the ball forward rather than get your elbow under the ball and shoot it with all your momentum and power under the ball. Rather your bring the ba up to your face and then fling it forward. Make sure to get your elbow and your whole body under the ball and push it UP rather then forward. And let it fall into the hoop. A by product of this issue is the bent elbow. After releasing the ball, your elbow should be straight. Your triceps should fire and snap the elbow. When your elbow is bent at the end, it means you didn't use your arm much at all and the shot becomes a fling focus on some form shooting with only one hand close to the basket and then further out. Only one hand without using a guide hand. Focus on snapping your elbow and your wrist. Fingers of the shooting hand should point straight down after the shot. If not, again, it means you flung the ball rather than shot it. All your joints should snap and lock out starting front your ankles to your knees to your elbows to your wrists. Even your shoulder should snap. Another helpful tip to get proper rhythm, arc, and power is to end your shot with your elbow above your eye. If your elbow ends below your eye it means you're not getting your shot up high enough. But your elbow can't just end high, it must have STARTED low. If you start your release with your elbow already near eye level that means you aren't getting enough travel up. Your release point, basically where everything starts to snap and your hand shoots towards the basket, should be somewhat low. The highest your elbow should be is an inch or two above nipple level. A good starting point would be to start your release with basically the ball covering your shooting eye and end with your elbow above your eye. Always end with the elbow above the eye but somewhat adjust the release point based on your own body. Best of luck
3 things that got me to shoot better were: 1: you’ll never make every shot so don’t worry about missing 2: don’t rush the flow/motion of the shot 3: enjoy shooting coz it’s the most fun aspect of basketball Two of these are to do with mindstate than physical which is a big part of shoot I my eyes
Nice job bro, keep grinding and improving your jumper. Make sure you don't stress about how good/bad you are performing during shooting and just think about how you can improve.
i wish i could train like you everday, but where i live, its always either 0 degrees outside, or its raining. I wish i had a hoop in my yard but, even then its still raining and shit. keep the content up tho! Love the vids.
Thanks for sharing this my man. It's good to show players to put into perspective how much they can improve in 30 days with consistent work. What was the your shooting routine every week?
I see a consistent jump shot here. Fully control of your shooting hand during the hole motion, but the guiding hand is not helping to follow up the shot in my humble opinion. Check how coach Emerson position his left hand all the time in 8:46 and check if there is something you can do especially during the release. Keep it up and great video!
Congrats on your 3%FG on day 40, that is some dope ass shooting. I'm surprised that the shooting coach didn't talk about your legs/shooting mechanics. You shoot on your way up and don't bend your knees very much. You also don't put your hips into it. Shot Mechanics has a great vid about it: th-cam.com/video/Mr_IH0O-Kwo/w-d-xo.html With proper power going into your shot, you need to use your arms less so your elbow won't stick out as much. You should only be missing short or long, not side to side. If you are, that's because your wrist is not flicking straight and/or your elbow is at an angle. Looking forward to your dunking video so that we can see you kill it from deep and finish hard in traffic this summer! Edit: Also love how you put pressure on yourself and Cam was trash talking. That is low key great practice for the mental component.
You mentioned you were shooting from the NBA 3 pt. line. FYI, the outer line in the facility you're at (Union Basketball) is FIBA line. The arc portion is almost a foot shorter than NBA line. However, the corners are quite close - just almost half a foot difference shorter vs NBA 3pt corners.
Yo, when I play with people at I just play how I ussually play and pressure is hard when you are trying to play your game but focus on being you not what people think, that is when you start missing shots and get into a shooting stump
Yo you were already good, personally how I got better was I found a shot form fit for me. I am 16 years old and about 6 ft but I am a pretty good shooter
You guys should do an improving your beep test challenge or the yo yo test challenge. It will help build your stamina and affect your overall cardio like crazy
im no pro, im even worse than both of you, but it seems you're getting better shot % of dribble because you land in the same place from where you jumped compared to your 3pointer. jumping forward on a jump shot kinda messes with the repeatability of the shot. sometimes you jump forward further, sometimes shorter, sometimes more to one side or another. I've been told to try to keep jump shot only vertical to improve my shots.
By chance, did the coach told u if shoulders while shooting must remain rigid (as u have to immobilize the upper part of body) or u have to let them relaxed?
That's actually a great idea. A lot of people who don't sing usually atribute it all to natural talent, but it would be awesome to see how training can improve a amateur.
its ight i used to not be able to shoot from nba 3 point or any 3point line now i can i just practice wit my dad and im only 10 years old ima be 11 on feb 16

I would say to focus less on form and more on getting into a rhythm. It’s mostly mental. Also jump higher because you’re gonna get blocked.

Lie on the floor and practice flicking the basketball up in the air. Helps with the release and less focus on shoulders.

By chance, did the coach told u if shoulders while shooting must remain rigid (as u have to immobilize the upper part of body) or u have to let them relaxed?
Pretty sure it's a "use the necessary muscles but otherwise it's a relaxed (aka loose, fluid, flexible) feeling" kind of motion.
at least you improved
Relax, arch your arm and release the ball calmly
100th comment.. Entertaining video:)
I bet this hiatus is due to the massive work needed to finally build those traps and neck.
You shoot like you're afraid to miss. Shooting like a marathon in terms of how one improves. It takes time to learn how to shoot

If your shooting arm is not straight after the shot, you do it wrong.
