    1. In the beginning Keller told his son not to go near “that house”. That’s because that’s where Alex Jones was kidnapped.
    2.Also probably the reason why Alex was there in the first place. Maybe he faintly remembers something about that location.
    3. The lady that kept watching the film of the little boy, that was Alex’s real mom.
    4.Also, in the picture of Hollys husband, you can see the RV in the back.
    This movie was filled with so many little details.

    What i would love to know is if Loki would have solved the case without Keller interfering. Because the only reason he went to Holly's house was to tell her they found Alex who was kidnaped and beaten by Keller, thus seeing the labirinth pendant on her husband's picture and making the connection to the abductor in the priest's basement, thus finding Anna and saving her.

    It's also about the realistic flaws of people who are usually portrayed as super human... the stressed out detective with a twitch and no back story, the drunken murdering priest, the father becoming a torturer to an innocent person, the other parents who don't do the right thing and tell the police about the kidnapping, the mother on tranquilizers instead of staying alert to find her daughter... everyone is flawed but they all bundle through somehow... it's an interesting portrayal of realism (in a similar sort of way to manchester by the sea which i also saw recently)

    • @Bluhbluh566
      @Bluhbluh566 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@antithoughtpolice7497just the one, really, where he says he was in and out of boys homes and implies he was abused by the priests who raised him. That explains why he doesn't come from a family. His boss advises him to find a woman and start a family and he responds with pretty much no interest and that's all that's really said of why he hasn't made a family and seems to be unattached. When we first see him talking to the waitress, I found it hard to surmise whether he was flirting or just being friendly. Clearly once the plot got going he had more important things to focus on, but if he was flirting with the waitress then that indicates he's pretty much a regular single guy. If not I feel like it might indicate that romance doesn't interest him either because of his past (implicitly sexual) trauma, he's married to his work, or both. His tattoos and Freemason ring also imply a bit about his backstory. I really like the decision to only sprinkle in hints about his backstory.

    • @valmacclinchy
      @valmacclinchy 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@valmacclinchy yes, he's one of my favourite actors for sure! Apparently he watched countless hours of police interrogation footage to prepare for the role, and I think that's evident in how he is with Alex/ Barry, how he stands very close to him and even occasionally lightly touches him. He didn't overdo it like so many cop characters in interrogation scenes. He played it smart, a manipulative cop rather than just a stern one, and I love that decision 💓

    I was thinking a possibility why Keller was still alive at the end was due to the concoction Holly made him drink. If it’s designed to sedate or basically “incapacitate” its victims it’s probably doing so by lowering their blood pressure. In this case it may have inadvertently slowed down the bleeding in Keller’s leg, keeping him from bleeding out.

      He literally has to, it’s the lamest ambiguous ending because it’s not, they should’ve just don’t a quick whistle blow and a quick flash of Loki turning around then cut to credits. Then I think you could make the case maybe he turns back around and ignore it, but he clearly hears the whistle and no doubt investigated the matter further and found Keller. Movie should’ve either completed the story or made it a real ambiguous ending, definitely the biggest weak spot of the movie was the rather poorly thought out ending.

    • @antithoughtpolice7497
      @antithoughtpolice7497 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@imnotsmartbutimdumb It's ambiguous and a great ending for a number of reasons. The symbolism of the movie is mazes, and it's spent mostly lost it one. Onto my points
      1.) Loki complains several times when the other cops half ass their job, like when they weren't watching Alex, and the forensics half assed their job by not investigating under the wooden cover.
      2.) The way Loki lingers is indicative of his character: he has a hard time letting go.
      3.) We don't see what happens to Keller, that much is ambiguous. He tortured somebody, he's going to jail. What's ambiguous is "happy" the family reunion would be.

Most films like these include an hour or day counter to emphasize how much time has passed during an event, but this film intentionally leaves that out. I’m still confused about the snakes. There’s a scene where Holly tells either Loki or Keller about how Alex has a fear of snakes. I have two theories. Theory one is that Bob Taylor is still under the control of Holly, that he is doing all that weird stuff to throw detectives off the scent for a while or to confuse them. The snakes in the boxes, could be to stop Alex from going in them and giving them away to the police, maybe he is not as trusted because of his mental age. Theory two, is that the snakes are clue to the audience to suggest that the people who kidnapped Bob Taylor, were in fact Holly and her husband, because of how Holly mentions Alex’s fear of snakes in an earlier scene, because if like you said, if Bob Taylor is still mentally stuck in the time he was kidnapped, then maybe he knew about Alex’s fear of snakes and included them in his antics - which suggests he was kidnapped whilst Alex was there, giving it away quite clearly.

Also, she says "it" put tape on our mouths. • @susien9883
      @susien9883 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "Alex" is Barry, the son of the woman Loki interviews earlier on in the film. She watches a video of Barry on VHS. He was abducted 26 years prior and she never got any answers. Loki questions her because her son was abducted from the front yard of the abandoned house *where the RV was parked at the start of the movie* 😳😳😳. So "Alex" either consciously or subconsciously returned to his childhood home. Crazy right. He's the first child they abduct and he mentally stayed a child probably due to trauma. (I think Holly was lying about the snake incident, although he may actually have a fear of snakes as he is mentally still a child). He gets reunited with his mum at the end of the film.
      Taylor was a different person who was abducted as a child. He escaped after 3 weeks but due to being drugged he never remembered the identity of his abductors. He had all the snakes and children's clothes because I think he was either trying to work through or recreate his childhood trauma

    This video answered most of my questions, especially those pertaining to bob taylors character. The ones that linger are:
    Was the priest a sex offender?? That feels obvious given the plot but I just don’t understand why the priest would have kidnapped/killed Holly’s husband.
    I also wondered about Loki’s twitch, but I love someone’s comment in here that explains it shows one of the many imperfections of all characters shown.
    I also wish I understood the overall motive behind the abductions. Besides s*xual ab*se I just don’t see what else there could have been, including the little puzzles.

    • @drewton540
      @drewton540 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, the priest was a sex offender and Loki was checking in on him. Holly's husband was giving a confession to the Priest and he said that he would kidnap again, so the priest probably killed him to prevent more abductions.
      The motive for the abductions was their war with God because of how they lost their own son to cancer after being very religious. It was their way of getting back at God for losing their son.

    • @katiesowul
      @katiesowul ปีที่แล้ว

      Just adding to the great comment from drewton540 - yea she told Keller that her and her husband abduct kids to wage a war with God because of the affects it has on the family, “it turns them into demons on Earth”. If that was really a man with a 10-year-old's mental age he would 1) not be brave enough to do such a thing and 2) not have developed the consequence or impact thinking that comes with such a decision, in my opinion.
