Hello doc looks great I also invested in the RH wing vent cover fits inside under gloss vents to stop scummy hands reaching through and pulling the bonnet release cable
Apart from cosmetic look, this hinge has no further security. The old hinge bolts were double nutted anyway, so how would you of been able to take the bolts out from the top side?. Thin. Fitting a bonnet lock system would provide alot more security.
A word of caution on this product, we have a hinge that's developed a white crusting around the pin area, I've contacted Optimill there sending a second condition hinge and we have to return the original, then I presume we will get another replacement, it's a lot of hassle, I would have thought they would just replace it given the cost of these things
I’ve found Optimill customer services to be pretty frustrating in the past. They flat out refused to pay return postage on a defective item of mine, which I think is wrong.
@@thedoctorsgarage not really, they sent a cosmetically damaged hinge out for me to swap over, I have to send the original back for examination, then if they agree I will get a perfect replacement and then send the cosmetically damaged hinge back, ridiculous isn't it, its put me off buying anything else from them, I've no time for all this nonsense, by the time the garage has been paid to replace 2 hinges I would have been better of just buying the replacement
My friend told me of something he witnessed some years ago when a van with two yellow jacketed official looking men arrived in a restaurant car park, and in front of everyone removed a Defender bonnet and drove off with it. The car owner was not too happy when he returned.
They look nice, but I can't help thinking that you could have locked the original bolts with some jam nuts and achieved the improved security for next to nothing. If I was worried about someone running off with the bonnet a cable lock down to the chassis rail near the front bumper would be accessible to unlock and seems more effective. As a cosmetic upgrade, yeah, they definitely look nicer.
Morning Doc, Another great video Sir. Optimil really do make great products, your truck is coming along wonderfully, are you going to fit the bulkhead hinges, I have my eye on those as well? Kind regards Tony
Hi Marcus They look great but I can’t help noticing maybe that with a small crow bar it looks like you could prize open the claw/cup that holds the hinge? I hope that makes sense see at 7:47 Am I wrong ?? Cheers
It’s mental to me that LR didn’t make this part of the design from factory. I mean even up to 2016 they were still making thief magnet cars 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ Nice job, they look slick 👌🏼
Lovely 90 , some great mods , great ideas but ...................please, please Doc spend a few quid on some quality tools . Holding a nut with plumbers pipe grips looks a bit naff
Its such a shame defender owners have to go through theft anxiety.. This decline in society and law Nd order is the reason i moved to Austria.. I leave the keys in my car here..
Another great video, something I am wanting to do to hedlay.the.defender, replace all the hinges on my 110 with Optimill hinges, so smart and give you peace of mind. Love my Optimill side window latches and Steering boss security lock. Look forward to the other videos showing the other items you picked up !
Corrrr..... the old doctor's punching!!!!! Haha!!!
😂
Hi Doc, another great video. You just made the best defender even better. Well done.
All the best
Regards Peter.
Cheers Peter appreciate it!
Brilliant video. Very tempted with the full optimill range
Thanks! It’s great gear

Yes that’s a great bit of kit

Wait... Did you just add even more value to the Defender?? 😉
….😳
@@thedoctorsgarage 😬 what I do like about the security upgrade is that it looks cool as well!
Looks very smart
Your 90 is looking mint
Cheers Simmo!
Could you give me a link or site where you got all your upgraded security parts , really makes your land rover lot so smart 😊😊😊😊thanks Stuart
Thanks Stuart- All the security mods are from Optimill

Did you get it sorted with Optimill Danny Boy?

The way to perfection

😂 so bad- but was at a show recently and saw a bonnet for £200 and a door at £350 EACH!
3:58 was deffo the highlight of the video lol

That’s true but that wouldn’t look as good as well as secure!
Just need rear tyre carrier then perfect - bonnet looks ace now 👍
Cheers Malcolm!
Do the bonnet hinges require a gasket like on the door hinges?
Fair play doing it took 3 of us to do mine. I know you got more than just those hinges, you had the big bag lol
😂😂 got lots of new bits coming soon!
Morning Doc,
Another great video Sir.

Thanks Tony- yes they do look good - I would like to but focussing on the security element first but my bulkhead ones definitely do need changing
Hi Doc
Each video just gets better mate she is looking amazing with all the new mods 👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Nice breakdown Doc....whats next buddy?
Not exactly sure - have lots of bits planned to improve it slowly over the coming months

I guess you could but it’s quite a hard angle to open the claw?
Why not just fill the existing screw drives with araldite?. So they cannot get a screwdriver in there without alot of effort.
Are you recording this using an Iphone?
Yes 📲
Nice...!!!

LR were not aiming at the Townie market when designing the Defender.
Next comes the optmill bulkhead ones ?
Hey Ben- Bulkhead what? Don’t think I’ve seen them?
@@thedoctorsgarage I will message you on Instagram the link

It’s true! It’s a big part of ownership!
Did you have a job to go to or just took a leap of faith and hit the ground running?
I love Austria. I’d love to move there.
I also removed the hood with the help of my wife)
Much easier!
