I didn't know that betta splendens was an amalgamation of species, but it makes sense in hindsight.
It's so exciting that there's a brand new species of betta tho!
He doesn’t really clarify but there are actually still some pure blood Wild Splendens, any domestic/fancy type betta is just classed as Splendens but are actually hybrids in most cases.
Get well soon Alexander 🙏
Thank you
You got this man I’ll be here when you get better stay strong and get well soon ❤
Okay. That's it. I'm going to get a four wheel drive tracked wheelchair and I'm going to go looking for fun new fish! You coming with me Alex? We could breed the colours into them like happened to the other ones and like what we've done with shrimp.
Haha okay im in!
@@Fishtory Right. Now that we've got that settled, let's work on world peace and other trifles.
Thanks for doing these shorter but highly informative format vids. It’s exciting to see new officially described species and I just wouldn’t catch this info without it being brought to my attention
Sure thing! Thanks for your input and for your comments
Behind on your videos thanks to the interaction between weather and my autoimmune stuff…looking forward to catching up! A new beta is very exciting. I like the wild types…not as exotic looking but I haven’t seen a fish yet I didn’t like, including the so called ugly ones. A new species is very exciting and so much to learn! Makes we wonder what may have lived in and been lost in the European peat bogs. Great video.
I really enjoyed this excursion into an unknown to me land/island. Gotta love bettas in all their forms. Will be exciting to see what else may be lurking in those dark waters!
Thanks for the great coverage and vid!
❤☮🐠🦐🪴
I love the wild type bettas Alex very exciting!! Thank you so very much🙂👍🏻
My pleasure!! Its an honor to have you stop by the channel. Cheers
Thanks for an informative and exciting new video.
I love new scientific discoveries, especially when they involve new species!
Well done
I knew you were on this one!
Haha yup, couldn't miss it
@@Fishtoryyes I knew it too🙂👍🏻
I'm excited about this one. I know what is . 😅
Haha yay!
Thank you for this updated information! I tried looking for the link to this information in your description but could not find it. Would you mind posting the link please? Thank you =)
Yup im working on it as we speak
Very interesting video Alex. Thank you!!❤🇨🇦
Good species profile ...nicccccccce
My favorite wild type Betta is the Betta Rubra ❤
Good choice!
Hi Alex! I wanted to drop a note to let you know I’m taking a break from my membership for a bit. I still love your channel, just in a busy season of life. Sending my best, Buttface
Poor Alex is really unwell😢
No worries! Thank you so much for all your support in all the forms you've expressed it! No pressure. I hope i still see you around though! Cheers
Get well soon ❤❤❤
Oh my goodness. Thank you so very kindly. Your support and compassion are so very appreciated. Hopefully i can respond more fully soon, but thank you so much, it truly comes at a time that it will go to very good use- getting me back on my feet. I hope you and yours have a wonderful weekend. Hugs - Alex
Wow this video is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing in such detail and taking the time to put all the photos and charts together for us. Very well done sir, keep it up!
Sure thing my friend! Its what id want to watch...so yeah lol
You’d make an excellent history teacher
Thank you, that is what i went to university for hehe. But ended up a tattoo artist for 15 years instead
@@Fishtory I appreciate that you are here to educate us
Fantastic video Alex. Clear , concise and factual. I really prefer the muted wild type betta to the super colourful ones, they almost look frankenfish sonetimes. No offence to anyone that loves them , we just all have our tastes.
I’d love to see what was written about the cooking 😂 off for a nosy ! Thanks for the video
Lol thank you. Yeah, must have been some magical food to get a species named after him!
Really cool. I wonder if they have some patterns or color that would come through if you keep them in blackwater (and have the water color filter the light).
Me too... and or even UV or infra red markings of some sort
Cool! Thanks so much!
Passionnant 🤯🥰🦄
Too much lol
@@Fishtory si seulement c'était juste les poissons ! 🙃
Je n'ai absolument ni le temps ni l'argent pour étudier et "jouer" avec toutes mes passions ! 🤯🌪🌬🌈🌊🤯😅😂😉
Woot woot who doesnt love a betta ❤ thanks for another super informative video ❤
Right?! Sure thing and thank YOU
Woahhh awesome!!
Cool…thanks…👍🏽😊
Thank you too!
That's cool
Hey Alex,
I did it, I added 2 platties to my betta tank. He is no longer alone!!! I love it ❤
Yay!
so cool 😮🙂
Always fun to see info on newly discovered species
Glad you liked it
Amazing
Very exciting.
I always think so
@@Fishtory I think you are totally right that maybe this new betta holds its babies in its mouth. Keep up the good work on your perfect channel my friend. I love your channel.
Thank you for the new betta species information! And the Betta nuluhon species that lives in fast-flowing streams alongside Hillstream loaches astonished me! (And as a long-time “shiny” addict, guess I will continue to keep cardinal tetras/red wag platys/zebra plecos L046/zebra danios/panda corydoras/pearl gouramis/pearlscale golden, and marbled angelfish. AND blue fire/butterfly/red Betta splendens together with Longfin Neon tetras/zebra or tiger Otocinclus cocama. 😎)
Quite the beautiful fish collection you have there!
@@Fishtory Would never be called a specialist, that’s for sure! 😆 Will be looking at the Golden Ringed Danio that you mentioned in one of your informative videos-much as I love the “I chase you, then you chase me!” games that Zebra Danios play, a more sedate danio for a new tank might be a better fit for the stately Pearl Gouramis. 😏
hey its my country////
btw it pronounce as riouh riau islands (kepulauan riau)...
Thank you kindly 🙏
coccina is the best little betta for community fish, with striking blue eyes
A beautiful fish!
Yay, new species!
I kept B. Mahachaiensis back when they first made it to Denmark. Absolutely beautiful fish.
I still have so many Bettas and labyrinth fish in general, on my bucket list 😅
Haha right on! I love my mahachaiensis... the one i showed isnt wild obviously, but i think the wild types are just as pretty
RIP Alex

Thanks
I put you on my recommended channel's video l uploaded yesterday 👍🐠🐟💦
❤❤❤
Have you heard about the betta in the dr ?
No, invasive but feral?
They only found one specimen and did the whole categorization with just one specimen. If they have caught and took one specimen they should be able to take more than one to do the analysis. So it is not clear until they find more specimens with same pattern.
I agree... but i believe eDNA was preformed and they are returning. So eDNA showed the precense of more and the same unique genes
@@Fishtory yeah I’m waiting for them to find more specimens. I’m working with Betta pi from this group. Need to separate the group into pairs. Sad haven’t seen anyone else in USA with these.
Very interesting and thank you for the most informative fish show on u tube ❤ however I'm from the UK and I'm interested in a bunch of stickle backs I found in a little river pond in the park .. I noticed them a while ago znd every time I visit the park I take a little look over and watch them all dart around for a moment.. but .tonight I noticed that lots of them had huge Wight spots on them and wondered if maybe the have some kind of infection?? It's not like eck we're ther are lots of tiny spots it looks like every other little fish has 3 or 4 big white spots on them ? I reckon because of global worming that ther are definitely invasive fly insects and the native stickle back has been eating ther larvae anthe the stickle backs amune sistoms can't digest it and the larvae is trying to berst out through its skin and causing fungal infection??I could be on to the finding of the beginning of an iviromental disaster ?
Sounds like bacterial or fungal infection... hmmm salt dips will be well tollerated
Brother please recommend me that which leaves should i use for my betta fish.
Indian almond leaves or jackfruit leaves ?
Almond for healthy fish, Jack fruit if they have any infections
👍
Hi again, Alex.
I have a question. Can I add the brown outer peel of onions into my aquarium? Or boil the peel and pour the water into the tanks?
I wouldn't just due to it being a volatile chemical dump... think how onions make us cry. I dont know first hand however... so perhaps im missing something
@@FishtoryThank you, Alex. I will keep inquiring.
Still kinda want it even though it’s not that pretty
Lol they're pretty in a wild way
DUDE ! get a poster , that wall behind you makes you look like you're in a line up......
Yeah ive been meaning to stream some place else lol.. j did green screen backgrounds for a while but people complained it was nauseating lol
Are they species, or sub species?
Species Betta andrei
@@Fishtory Either way it's fantastic, but since its a completely new species, that's really great!
During the last glaciation, all of that area that is currently water was above sea level. It would not surprise me if, at the time, these waterways were all connected by a big river drainage. That could go a long way toward explaining why southeast Asia and all of these islands have similar fish populations which are from the same family but are different species. That area was not particularly cold either
100%
Betta are not fish, they are air breathers, it makes them a precursor to mammals.
No it makes them Anabantoides and in common terms "Labyrinth Fish" to the precence of their Labyrinth organ, which allows them to use a sinus- like membrain to absorb o2 from the atmosphere... but their gills also still work for extracting O2 from water as well. They likely evolved the ability to breath in salty, silty and or ammonia polluted environments that would otherwise be harmful to their gills.
Lastly, many fish breath air... most via their intestines and or colon even (corydoras and some loricaridae sucker fish and catfish).
You mean you don't know where the Riau Islands are?!? Everyone who's anyone knows. 🤣✌️
Edit; I feel kind of scuzzy that I'm so eurocentric that the first thing that comes to mind when peat is mentioned are the moirs and peat bogs in the UK. Was like, whoa, there's peat bogs other places😯.
Haha its okay i learned it at some point as well...thinking the same thing
German and Danish peat are the best.
Thanks for the news .Do you have any citations for B. siamorientalis, the B. Imbellis segregate .?
