Two Thirds is the golden ratio. It is also the ratio which is used to mix seasoning for sushi rice, and the ratio for making good teriyaki sauce, and making good Japanese curry, and a lot of other Japanese recipes. It is also represented in a lot of Japanese art. Golden ratio pops up in a lot of places in Japanese culture.

Rainbow Dace is a whole different fish than the Rainbow Shiners which occur in the streams of the Cumberland River Basin. Those are the American fish, and they look longer than the Rainbow Dace which are shown here. An alternate name for the Rainbow Dace is Red Shiner, and when they hit the mating season, they turn a striking red on blue, with vertical components to the red stripe. Rainbow Shiners have more of a metallic sheen which catches the light like glints off of metal. During the breading season, they get a "rainbow" of colours arising from the mid-line stripe. Rainbow Shiners prefer a little bit of flow, whereas Rainbow Dace prefer water which is a bit more still. Think babbling brook vs slow moving Rio Grande, cooler water vs warmer water. If you get young fish, they won't be colourful at all, but I like that. That way you get to keep them longer, and in addition, you get to see the metamorphosis from ugly ducklings into beautiful swans.

Correct. I just played it back.... I said rainbow daces. I thought your comment was saying I accidentally called them rainbow shiners lol

@@Fishtory yea awsome man can't wait! id love to hear and see more about your past with scaping.i always been wanting to do a iwagumi, ive done one before long time ago ,but with lake stones not true stone types for the style. i sorta start with a iwagami for my tanks then add layers over time as stuff fills out, i miss the simplicity and peacefullness of a iwagami, nothing beats it for the zen/clean look. I have 4 tanks now and i feel comfortable with the care and upkeep, so just slowing it down and maximizing the 4 to the limits which im pretty well capped out lol

The tank you referenced the CO2 diffuser, had one, but the item you pointed to was actually an electronic steriliser - I remain unsure how effective they are, they supposedly kill algae spores. I have tested one, no firm conclusion on effectiveness. In harder water however, the membrane quickly becomes coated with calcium deposits which has to be frequently cleaned to restore the device to working order. Hope that helps for clarity. Get well soon.

@aragusea do you have any good shops with rimless tanks etc out near you? Because the UNS, Aquatop and ADA tanks are the most expensive to ship (Unless it's already in a store's pallet of orders and discounting the shipping price, but its still marked up way more out there).

@aragusea ahhh lovely. Right now is an incredible time to go to the nearby creeks and streams by your house. There are over 600 species native to Tennessee and Kentucky alone. If you can make it to the Cahaba river you can get some cahaba mycrantha water lilies,( world renowned for their beauty, and found only in that area) as well as orange throated carter's, rainbow shinners, red sided shinners, rainbow dace, stone rollers, and maybe even some little banded dwarf sunfish. Check out NANFA on Facebook or their website for more on those amazing cold tolerant native species. I bet you'd make a beautiful video and habitat for any number or those fish!

I would watch my "creating a balanced ecosystem and not just cycling your tank" video for an overview of the big scheme of things, and then watch my "lasagna Substrate, how to create one" the 40 minute verson and not jisy the 14 minute overview... from there, setting up filterless tanks and or deep substrate setup videos on my channel will probably also help. I hope this will get you going in the right direction ! But feel free to ask any questions also
