Should You Paint Plastic Trim?

- "Does plastic (pvc) trimboard need to be painted?" Here are my thoughts!

There is a process when working w pvc trim to "finish" the cut edges so they don't look and act porous. You can actually get them to look like the finished sides. The problem is almost Noone knows about it ad it is seldom done.
I haven't seen that. I don't think builders local to my area know of it.
I've been painting houses for 29years not only will it grow mildew and algae if you don't paint it but when you're a plastic trim is not calked and the nail holes filled water gets around the nails and rots them out and the boards will eventually pop off your house I've seen it with my own eyes

What about the recommendations by the pvc trim makers that the cut ends be sanded which I’m thinking slightly melts it to seal out the potential for “dirt stains”?
Also, using only stainless steel nails/ screws or the coated screws that come with the matching pvc plugs?
So what kind of prep and paint is needed for “plastic” trim?
1) Clean it to remove mold/mildew/algae/dirt/grime. 2) I'm not a painter but reputable sources say to use 100% acrylic paint.
What are your thoughts about painting the trim that's on the glass of a door that is trim that goes crisscross on the window?

I haven’t ever noticed those getting crazy moldy, maybe they have a finish on them that helps protect them or maybe they are a different type of plastic. I wouldn’t worry about it unless you are actually trying to change the color.
