Broke my leg last December while playing hockey, I decided to drive myself home... it’s doable, but I’d advise against learning on public roads, with a broken leg. 😂
Similar thing happend to me when I sprained my right ankle two years ago, litterally walking out of work. It was more like one and a half legs as i could still use the accelerator, but yeah looking back it was a really bad idea.

I love these little tips! That reminds me, I read this car manga called Over Rev! and one of the training techniques they did was staying at a constant speed without cruise control. so say like staying exactly at 40mph on the street. It really helps build throttle control I've noticed
Slaughtered my left leg in a motorcycle accident a few years back so occasionally I have to do this to get home witn my wrx as my left leg gets sore working the clutch it is one of the most difficult things ive had to do in a vehicle I still have difficulty doing it even being familiar with it.
I've done this a couple of times on the dirt roads, and it has actually helped. Especially with left foot braking. My left foot used to be really bad at braking, but after practicing a bit more, I'm as smooth with my left foot as I am with my right foot. I'm at the point now where I don't really have to think about left foot braking anymore, I just do it.
Like a few others commenting here already, I injured my right ankle when out walking years ago, couldn't put pressure on it at all. So once I'd managed to get back to my car (with the help of my buddy, who was out with me) I had to drive with just my left leg as my buddy couldn't drive. Not the most comfortable initially, but definitely do-able and after a few days, it became almost normal....
Didn't think i would, but I really enjoyed this video, made me realize how capable my left leg was. Lefty has more capability than I give him credit for 💯👍
I always wanted to drive a manual but I have a weakened right leg from polio so I use my left leg to drive automatic. Your video gives me a hope I can do this one day.
Now I wonder you on a hill, you switch to gas, bring up rpms, quickly switch to clutch, let it out quick but smooth and steady and get back on the gas if that would do the trick on a hill
@@X340n Yeah, hard on your synchros, but you should be able to launch with the momentum of the engine, unless you have a lightweight flywheel that slows down too fast and a manual throttle that doesn't automatically add throttle as you load the engine up with the clutch.
I used to do this a lot, I should really try it again. My feet are dumb. 😅 It really did come in handy when injured myself playing hockey and had to drive home from a neighbouring city using only one foot.
I like to practice braking and clutching with my left foot at the same time. It's really a skill that's come in useful when I get into those 'I'm doing it all wrong" moments.
This is great when you break your ankle, it’s always good to have some experience with this because when you really need it im a pinch (ex break your ankle ESPECIALLY in a manual car) you’ve already built up some experience
Just before I left work I noticed this and practiced on the way back, pressing the clutch down with my right food felt really strange! I get why someone in certain agencies may need to learn this.
I know street driving isn't this channels main focus but I would love to see a video on driving with passengers/a fully loaded car. I've learned a lot of great techniques for performance driving, but are there any tips and tricks to make the ride more comfortable with other people in the car? Very subjective as people vary in their comfortability to speed which is part of my curiosity. I imagine weight transfer would behave differently as opposed to one person in the car, just curious if there are any things to consider though I imagine it mostly just boils down to getting a feel for it and staying within those respective limits. Love the videos and watching them every day to prime myself for driving lessons, and hopefully soon for everyday driving and weekend rallying!
A question. 99.lots of my driving is urban. Can I trick ABS so I can learn threshold braking as I don't want to pull fuses's. Car is 2006 Subaru Forester. Every so often I will do a dirt run. But with road hogs coming the other way on those roads I do stick to my side.
I have bever thought about doing this for the legs but I often try to drive with only one hand with the other hand is held over the chest. If I am comfortable with that I know I can still drive myself to the ER if I had an accident.
I did this when I damaged my left leg in an accident, driving overall wasn't that bad, move off without using gas, braking was no issue at all as I wasn't concerned about stalling the engine, but I did almost crash into my garage wall, by pressing the clutch all the way in instead of the brake pedal 🤣 muscle memory is really tough to counter sometimes.
I just tried this but there's not enough foot room in my car, my other foot/leg is always getting in the way. I wouldn't try this unless the footwell of your car has a lot of space to move around. I especially wouldn't try it in a Mazda3 because the clutch travel is so long, you'll either bang the side of your foot on the brake or you'll drop revs so much lifting your foot over the brake and back to the gas that it'll stall out.
what about when you’re on a steep hill trying to go up? wouldn’t you have to use two legs (one for the clutch and one for the brake) so you don’t roll back?
@@nathanalbritton3766 330 is the size of my stock wheel, so 300 is just the difference I needed. @@melkorthegreatenemy6961 Most people teach left foot as only clutch and right is gas and brake. That's usually plenty for standard driving on roads with traffic, but when it comes to performance driving it helps to have both feet well trained to do more.
Neat idea, but really not a good idea on public roads and in traffic. In an event of emergency breaking or evasive maneuvers, you're not going to be on the brake and clutch immediately. Tbh, I wouldn't encourage anyone to do this, except for on training courses or empty parking lots.
If it's a real emergency braking situation, who cares if you stall the car? Plus, it's not like you're tying one foot behind your back - nothing is stopping you from using both feet in an emergency.
