Speaking of bad radio, Jim Norton is away on his little camping trip, leaving Sam Roberts free reign for a whole week... Holy $hit I am grateful for clips like this, just so I can maintain perspective on how mediocre Sam is. Sam is a good interviewer, but he so can't carry a show. He can't just BE Sam Roberts. He's too insecure. All he knows how to do is this smarmy fake drama over EVERY little thing, and he's gotten worse with this. REALLY smarmy. Just a self indulgent pr!ck, but the worst part is, it's all fake. He really is like Opie in the sense that he has no original thoughts of his own, but even worse, because unlike Opie, he's OBSESSED with appealing to a status quo. Sam dips his toe into the zeitgeist, and whatever general top/down standard exists around any issue, that's what he thinks about it. Sirius is crazy if they want to use him as a frontman, but he is the perfect "company man," and I guess that's all they care about.
John Boy and Billy spoke at my Charlotte high school in 1982. They've been around that long. I've never understood the appeal. They've always had cast members whose sole purpose is just to laugh at whatever they say.
Anyone who suffered from second hand embarrassment when Jackie Martling would laugh at his own jokes should listen to a few minutes of JB&B. They *have* to be pumping a steady supply of nitrous into that studio through the air vents. It’s the only explanation for their constant, jackass-like braying after every lame attempt at humor. JB&B makes “Bob & Tom” sound like the Algonquin Round Table by comparison.
To Ant's point, it isn't just classic rock radio either. Every station's guilty of having the corny DJ. Alt rock stations aren't horrible because you get some new rock music every now and again. Sports radio's the only thing I can listen to, even if Norton did a great job roasting the concept.

We actually have a decent morning rock show here in Baltimore. Huber on 100.7 The Bay is pretty funny. They also play some cuts you usually don't hear. They played "On The Turning Away" by Pink Floyd the other day.

In the age of podcasts and streaming, the radio is equivalent to using a telegraph to send messages.
Ask someone in ad sales: believe it or not commercial radio is still a pretty big thing. It’s good for advertisers because people listen to it live and can’t skip the ads. And people listen to it in the workplace or other places they can’t get away from it. Podcasts are not worth as much because of the format, people skip the ads, there’s no local market etc

When you work in construction you need FM radio and no matter what station you pick you will always hear a couple songs that should legit never be played again. Hotel California for example. Prince songs. Thats why country has gotten popular becasue they actually make new songs. There is no new rock
