I did the 23andMe DNA testing over 18 months ago. I learned a lot about my heritage and that was nice. Then this past January I received a message from a young man saying that we were 1st cousins. He stated that he did the test because his mother was adopted and searching for her family. Initially, I thought that her father was my uncle but as I was doing the literal math on the percentage of her son being my 1st cousin well, it was way too strong to be a 1st cousin. That's when I told her that I thought that we were actually half-sisters. She did the DNA test and sure enough, she is my baby sister by 2 years and 1 day. Our dad passed away 9 years ago and I've always known about his indiscretions. So now I have this WONDERFUL sister who is just like me! I'm crazy over her. She's a blessing to me.
I loved your story. They don't always lead to a place that makes peace with the past. My mother told me my dad was not my biological dad when I was 26. I am 71 now and just found a wonderful Italian family who have embraced me. I love having so much in common with them! Thanks to Ancestry DNA!!
Found my bio- father and his family thru DNA testing a few years ago. I was born a Schwartz to a man who raised me as his own, and I shall always remain a Schwartz, but it was good to get that closure. Unfortunately he died two decades ago never knowing I existed, but I've gained seven wonderful new siblings. They have welcomed me with loving, open arms and we are building good relationships over the past few years. I am glad for you.
Zoe - I relate with this so much! I've gone 34 years without knowing who my dad is. It is a pain and void that many can't understand. Thank you for being brave and sharing your story. I'm anxious to learn more!!
As a genealogist who’s helped many people find family, DNA has been a huge game changer. Congratulations on finding your biological father, and i wish you all the best!
My heart genuinely goes out to you. I’m so sorry that you’re Mom died when you were only 11. You’re stunningly beautiful and remind me of Peggy Lipton (the mother of Rashida Jones). May you receive only ever a shower of blessings. Please know that this world is deeply fortunate to have you in it...
I’m so glad that you still have the time and opportunity to be able to find out more about your Father. I took the Ancestry DNA test almost 2 years ago. Like you, I had no idea it would tell you who your relatives were. I was totally surprised when Ancestry showed me a picture and it actually said, “this is your a Father”. I had always wondered about my Father. My Mom really didn’t know much about him. I went through all the emotions you did. Unless you’ve been through it you couldn’t begin to understand. But to make a long story short. After getting no reply from him, not telling him who I was, I got no answer. I started contacting other close relatives. The Wife of my half-brother on my dad’s side had been trying to contact him too. They were able to confirm many things that led me to believe that Ancestry had it right. Times, locations, etc. but anyway, my half brother had all but given up on hearing from him. I searched further and found an Obituary. It was my Father’s who had passed away about 4 months before I got the results of my DNA test. There’s so many “what if’s” going on in my mind.
Insane the similarities of ours lives. My mother passed when I was 8. My aunt adopted me, and I don't know who my bio dad is. I just sent my sample to ancestry yesterday. Hoping I am able to find my paternal family. Thanks for sharing.
@@zoejohnson892 Thank you. I received my results on Friday and I was able to discover his identity in less than two hours. It was crazy how quickly I was able to do that. I have yet to be able to make contact with him. The more I learn the more I realize he isn't the man I hoped he would be. I also found out I have three half siblings. They all have different mothers, and the youngest is four. The silver lining is that I have reached out to my half sister and we have begun a relationship despite her choosing not to have one with our father. I haven't probed into as why because I'm taking it slow. The good thing is I know who he is and that's all I've ever really wanted.

I just spent this past weekend with my Bio moms family. My two half brothers are really nice, and welcome me into the family. I am planning my next visit sometime in the spring.
I'm a love child and my half siblings despise me for taking their dad away for a whole 6 months of their lives when they were teenagers, they are in their 50's now and still haven't got over the trauma of a taking away a man I was too young to even remember. Anyway he went back to his wife and he left again after 2 years. I've been told to stay away and don't attempt to contact my dad. Though I have found a cousin.
You are a kind, caring and thoughtful person. It became evident when you mentioned your hesitancy to move ahead with your search plans because of the possible disruption to the lives of people that may be a part of your story. I’m happy that God brought your cousin to you in your time of vulnerability. He sounds much like you - a beautiful person.
By definition, first cousins share one set of grandparents. So this 1st cousin would either descend from your mom's parents or your dad's parents. This first cousin's parent was a sibling of your dad= either a sister or a brother.
Before you mentioned your cousin and became emotional, I was already crying. My heart aches for you, Zoe. May the God of Israel reward you with a life filled with love, peace and joy in the Lord. God bless you, dear.
Your experience as much as it sucked in some ways, gave you an added dimension to your personality. You seem like a very nice kind person. My experience was that I had half siblings that dispised me. Not for me, but for what I represented. I could never get past that...and god knows I tried.
I subscribed to your channel and I think your the most courageous young women. I am just on episode 3. Your going to help so many. My mom's Dad walked away when my mom was so young, in kindergarten. She's suffered all her life wanting him, wondering about him, crying every father's day on her wedding. I found him for her on ancestry too. He'd passed but she has half sisters she's met. She has 2 half brothers. It's the best gift of all she says. I admit I wanted to find him and ask why. The second wife tried to get him to at least send the Three kids he had with my grandma a card. I think they had a nasty divorce. But it's not the kids fault. One of my uncle's hated their dad. The other aunt wasn't going to meet them. But you know my mom learned a,lot. She gained siblings. It's turned out o.k. moms had two different cancers. I pushed hard spent years searching.
I found my bio father also through DNA, My Familytreedna test first proved that the Italian man on my birth certificate definitely was not my father. Then I linked with my 2nd cousin in Australia, who confirmed who my bio father was.
I have a very similar story only I didn't even need to take a DNA test. I found my father's parents and it turns out that they didn't know about me. I was told my whole life that they did know about me. My father left my mother when she was pregnant and lied to her saying that his parents didn't want anything to do with us. We are all hurt by my stupid parents.
Kelsey is an amazing woman who really helped me through a hard time (during videos 1&2). She is going to do amazing things, I just know it! Thank you for checking out my journey too! Welcome!
I can’t believe how beautiful you are, and you seem so loving. I’m really sorry you had to go through such hard times at a young age.. But when you may feel down and sad please always remember God’s promise that your mother and many others will get resurected to life and given a second chance, you will finaly be able to see and hold her in your arms again. I’m really happy you and your Father are back into eachothers life. :)

The "secret" is out and, sadly, she doesn't want anything to do with the "secret" who is now a full grown woman who has no other request than to meet her mother and be acknowledged as a daughter. My sister's response is, basically, "go to hell" and stay out of my life. Soooooo sad.
It is really interesting to hear these stories and the different reactions. Thank you for sharing this even though it sounds pretty painful. I’m sorry that it wasn’t the “happily ever after” people are often searching for.
