I just bought a 2013 Honda Civic LX back in October of 2020 and this car is identical to my car. The exact same color and all. And I love everything about it.
I rented a 2013 Civic, Elantra, and 2013 Kia forte and 2104 Kia Forte. I also rented the 2012 Focus sedan. All were great. The Civic got the second lowest mpg at 38, the Focus was worst at 35. The 2013 Forte got 42 mpg, so did the new EX with the bigger engine. The Elantra got 41 mpg. The Civic rode the best, but had lots of road noise to me. The old style Forte was my favorite...great ride, comfy seats, and no road noise. Focus nice except the tranny. Elantra steering to twitchy on highway.
I drive a 2010 Civic Hybrid here in the UK. Great car to drive, and a road tax of £10 a year against the £250 I paid on my Accord. One of the selling points for me was that the hybrid has a boot (trunk), I don't like hatchbacks. The CVT drives well and is a lot smoother than the standard automatic gearbox cars. There have been issues with the IMA batteries, I just had mine changed under the 8yr warranty. I believe the newer models have more reliable battery technology. I get around 48mpg and up to 55mpg on a long run. (UK gallons)
With this, you've almost reviewed the entire Honda fleet of cars. All you are missing are the Fit, the Insight, the CR-Z, and the Ridgeline. As a Honda enthusiast , i am looking forward to these reviews, in particular the CR-Z and Ridgeline. Keep up the good work!
@david dykeman, I'm seeking out more manufacturers. As the Everyman Driver Nation grows and the success of this channel, the more likely we will be to get MORE vehicles :-) Thank you for the support - Dave
@Ivan, I wash my vehicles before every review but I drove through gravel during this review (which caused a thin layer of dust) and then tried to wipe off some water marks and THATS why you see that one section, oh well - Dave
I just got ours, a Lx auto, save gas money. I wanted the Sentra SR instead I went for the Civic and better ride, residual value and standard back cam, bluetooth, pandora, keyless entry and 10 more hp.
Dave, I fully agree on the 72-month rating. We love our '12 EX, and fully expect it to be our "kids car' for all three of our boys. I also agree on moving up to the Accord. For not much more, you can get a bigger car with better seats, engine, and steering feel. Though, the rear seats on the '13 Accord do not split on any trim level.
When Honda upgraded the Civic interior for 2013 they should have improved the comfort of the front seats. Drive one for 5 hours & they become very uncomfortable. also, the seat fabrics look a little cheap. On the interstate going 72 mph I obtained 44.5 mpg with the 5-speed automatic.
Dave, pretty personal question here.. What is your favorite car that you had driven around the 2013-2014 years? I saw in another video that you would prefer the Honda Accord over the ILX and Civic so I just want to know your preference on your type of car.
This is the perfect example of Japanese manufacturers falling asleep at the wheel. The 2012 redesign was cheapened to the max and Honda took it on the chin from the automotive press. Kudos to them for rushing through a mid-season refresh only one model year into a redesign. Still, adding a couple chrome badges and trunk lid lamps doesn't make this car that much better looking. The interior material upgrade was welcomed, though.
I still love my 2012 civic dont like the chrome accent of 2013. Some says it cheapen to the max but its not it looks cheap because of the interior design but it feels solid. If you own a 2012 civic you what i mean
Great video, and great car. Just a consideration: you can easily drive in slippers? Even though this car is automatic, personally I would prefer to drive barefoot, rather than slippers.
Ha, I see they continued the single-backseat-pouch thing that I have on my '98. Must be a Civic thing. At least it is where the driver can access it though
Having a car not clean before a review is fine. I don't care. I feel like cleaning a car just for a review is absurd and then you're just gonna go and get it dirty again anyways. I liked the review great job :).
I have an EX-L with navi.. It's a great car, just slow lol.. & since I have a heavy foot, I don't really save gas, but its only $40 to full. Which is good
Awesome review as always. Very thorough and informative. But I do have a slight issue with your name. You look very chiseled and physically gifted. Probably an athlete? I wouldn't consider you as an "Everyman Driver." Lol. Most Americans and some Canadians are 5'6 180 lbs. Like me.
It's equipped as a 18k car tho, with rearview camera, pandora, bluetooth, blah, blah, blah. You should see the 15k corolla, I don't think it even has keyless entry!

what's the calf routine though?
It's at the 6:34 mark in the video.
I like Dave reviewing solo, he's got that personality that can still be engaging without having another co-host. Keep the great reviews coming!!
I have this car love it but the headlights are too dim at night .... Need to put on high beams

That sure is a beautiful, sharp looking color!

@Dark0blivion, I haven't reviewed the Honda Fit, not yet - Dave

i am wondering if it's worth to wait for the 2013 upgraded model as this one is not available in Europe yet.
they hug the conners and the ex coupe is amazing
The Civic 2013 model is a good deal right now. Last model to have the volume knob and no screen.
Can you please upload civic coupe videos

Dave, have you ever reviewed the Honda Fit?
Does anyone know if the econ mode really works and what does it really do.
Would love to see the 2014 Civic Review
The exhaust sounds surprisingly good.
Dave you do great reviews I just wish they were cars I desire, I'd like to see Cayman/Boxster, Audi S4 et al.
Cool. Might be a good one to add to your list. Especially given that the 2014 model is going to a big refresh.

i bought one used this year my 2nd car and its awesome and comfy.
Superman is back, I didn't see him in the last video,
Great video, and great car. Just a consideration: you can easily drive in slippers? Even though this car is automatic, personally I would prefer to drive barefoot, rather than slippers.
The little black plastic triangle at the base of the A pillar really looks out of place. It ruins an otherwise attractive daylight opening.
I think the taillights on the sedan look a lot better than the ones on the coupe.
Ha, I see they continued the single-backseat-pouch thing that I have on my '98. Must be a Civic thing. At least it is where the driver can access it though
A prev carwash would have been nice detail
nice review dave

I avg 34.2 mpg in city for my 2013 civic
mazda 3, or civic?
I have an EX-L with navi.. It's a great car, just slow lol.. & since I have a heavy foot, I don't really save gas, but its only $40 to full. Which is good
I bought a Civic EX 2012, nice car but should have waited for the 2013...
You still regret getting the 2012 over 2013? How’s the 2012 ?? Asking as a potential civic buyer
Alanna Berman I think Mazda 3 would be better. Albeit you can't go wrong with either.
Dave, you are a very good looking guy. Very nice quads/calves.
Desmond MacRae lol
Dave...You didn't even talk about the driving experience or show clips of driving...

1Stunna2323 Yes, I'm an athlete, a TRIathlete to be specific. I race Ironman and half Ironman triathlons - Dave
Damn those calves though
yes new civic does it ..
Subaru WRX/STI please :)
Superman @ 2:07
if you get the EX-L
18,000 for base starting?!! Wtf..
It's equipped as a 18k car tho, with rearview camera, pandora, bluetooth, blah, blah, blah.
You should see the 15k corolla, I don't think it even has keyless entry!
Superman!
OH (blank) handles XD LOL
Alex has moved on.
I think the Hyundai Elantra or Sonata is a all around better car it's a little more, but worth it
It would be nice washing the car before shooting this video... ;-)
