I have the 2006 Honda Civic LX. Bought it brand new at the dealership on September of 2006. My son now owns this car. He drove it from California to Virginia with no issues. Now he returns the car back to and drove it again to CA with 170k on the dashboard and still running fine. Now I’m using this for work without issues. FYI, service your car when it’s due so you won’t have any problems later.

I work at a dealership. Most reliable civic years are 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. However the 2012 and 2013 have low quality seat fabrics. They wear out really fast. Also 2012 but not the 2013 have a very cheap interior plastics

i Personally own a 2012 Civic Ex model and i can add that the Cloth seats ware out fast although super comfortable, the fabric takes a while to brake in properly. Also, the button paint for the steering wheel switches will chip of extremely easily over time especially if you have long nails. interior is fairly quiet. the surround sound system for the ex model is great music sounds amazing. I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times.
78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways.
81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times.
88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders.
      92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come;
and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified.
99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." 2 Esdras 7:75

2:36. My car started to feel sluggish and lose oil. Eventually it started to lose power and my engine started smoking on a highway. Service said that pipes of an engine broke and fluid got mixed, creating a sludge which destroyed all internal systems. I could not understand what they were saying properly, because I lacked visualization. However, this seems exactly what had happened. I literally had to pay my used car cost twice in order to replace whole engine.
People, take known defects very seriously, because eight generation civics are literal ticking time bombs.

My wife has owned 5 civics to include our current 2015 that we’ve owned since new. It just turned 90k miles and has never caused me a moment’s trouble except for a noisy blower motor that I replaced myself, and I believe we’re on our third set of Michelin tires. At the last oil change I requested the brakes be replaced, not because they were giving me any trouble but just to head off any. They were still in good condition, unbelievable to me honestly.
I spent 22 years selling used cars, I even opened my own Buy Here Pay Here lot in 2010 and I’ve seen a just as many shitty Hondas as I’ve seen of any other makes, honestly it’s all a bit of luck and being able to afford to maintain whatever you’ve bought. I myself drive mostly Audi and BMW’s and I’ve not had any nightmares per se but you must be prepared to pay more if a repair is needed, and you must do the routine maintenance.

After a lot of research I went with the 2013 Civic for my wife. She test drove the 2013 Civic and Corolla. She liked the Civic more, and we've been happy with it.
Got it with 87k on it about 2.5 years ago. She's got 130k on it now. The only issue we've had with it is the common tear in the air intake hose from the air box to the throttle body. Gonna take care of that Mon and hope that takes care of the hitch in its acceleration curve.
But other than that, she's happy with it.

Since she didn’t drive a lot when she sold it last summer it only had 65k miles and other than the weather stripping it was in real good shape! I am glad 😊 you have a new video out. I had a 1998 Honda Civic lx automatic. Honestly even though the problems were more prevalent in the referenced generation, mine had some of the same problems. The transmission started having problems around 15k miles, a blown head gasket, engine mount, cracked radiator, electrical issues, cracked exhaust manifold, and it was simply a tin can. Even a young lady who worked at the local honda dealership I visited stated Hondas were coming in for major service more frequently. That's probably one of the reasons why honda from a car perspective 🤔 has not grown as much as their competition specifically Toyota.

So much so that even though my 2000 Maxima died at 199, 281 miles (after babying it with clear fuel for the last five years of her life), I found a beautiful garaged 2006 Subaru Outback with 112,000 mostly highway miles six months ago. (Slim Pickens on the Oregon Coast with dealers snatching up everything.) I wish I had found you sooner, but I watch whatever car you talk about! Thank you for being so very thorough! Congratulations...I wish I could say the same!
I am not a mechanic nor did I have the knowledge or brute strength to work on Maxines engine! I had always owned VW Buses and could work on them if not too complicated...I relied on mechanics, that apparently were not always reliable! I would tell them of the problem I was hearing or having, apparently, they didn't see or hear my concern as a problem...
She had issues when I bought her with the 02 Sensors. That model was plagued with the problem so much so there were forums online about it! Many things contributed to her demise. I would say after watching Gregs video on "Breaking the Myth of Buying a Car with Low Miles" yesterday, (which I highly recommend), that the MILLIONS of cold starts I put on her the 18 years I drove her, living in a tiny town on the Oregon Coast was a major factor! It all makes sense now! So many parts needed replacing, the struts were shot which I was never told until near the end, the rear main seal gasket leak that I lived with for 11 years, got worse the last year of her life, no matter how much oil I added..The dozens of other parts inside and out that were worn out...I was willing to pay to have the problems fixed. I was told I was throwing my money away to put that much out on a near 20 year old car...(I disagreed!) I spent about $700 a year on her issues...Easier than buying another used car, not knowing what issues it would come with! Her body was beautiful and people thought she was new...thanks to Meguiars Shampoo and Conditioner!

Wow. Thank you so much. I just bought a 2013 civic lx and was extremely concerned by the window guard wear and the steering wheel. And also your point about the 5 speed made me feel a lot better. The dealer agreed to replace all our window rubber seals and the armrest for free. I also have the max care plan for up to 150k (it’s at 103k). I’m so happy I picked the best year Honda!! I did start noticing a humming noise and have done some research on it. Some say it’s a wheel bearing issue just as this gentleman mentioned. I’m hoping it’s just that or noise from tire tread.

Greg, I bought a used Civic in 2019. Model year 2010. I bought it with 132,000 miles. It now has 152,000. To date, I had one tire pressure sensor installed. A new battery at 151,000 miles ( I am working temporarily in NW Minnesota and with wind chills of 40-50- below, it took about 10 seconds to turn over. I had the battery tested and was told it was rated at 67% life. It could have been the brutal cold affecting the battery. And a few days ago I had the transmission fluid changed. Everything appears routine without any major expenses.

I had many Toyota's including Corolla but i was not happy owning a Toyota, poor quality and bad service. The only time Toyota gives attention to the customer is during the car sales event . After that they don't want to see you again.

Brake lines were PVF coated but did eventually succumb to the harsh corrosive environment. Fav feature is the HVAC heat from the little 1.7 motor, hotter than the big V8 in my truck.

It's a great, fun little car and I love the mileage. Wow, does it sit low to the ground but it handles very good. Maintenance is easy & straightforward except changing the teeny battery causes the stereo to freak out (the code is on the side of the glove compartment). I agree about the seat fabric. I still have a 6th gen 2000 Si garage kept mint condition 100K miles and I bought a 2002 with 260K miles in 2019 for $1,000 and now has 340K with just breaks, a starter and alternator replacements and a set tires of course. My 4 Subaru Imprezas (all 2003 wagons) were bullet proof except for oil leaks and all saw 200K miles with basic maintenance and they were highly abused towing 2000 pounds often in rough hilly terrain. Both Honda & Subaru started every time. As reliable as sunrise.

'12 Civic owner here. The paint issue is definitely true for my car, doesn't help that the Florida sun has basically turned it into a heaping mess. I cannot attest to the Bluetooth problem though since mine doesn't have it equipped. It's also easily been not just the most reliable car I've driven but also amongst my family; just a few days ago my odometer finally hit the 150k mark, but it still feels like it has plenty more driving left. One quirk with the Civic I'm not sure how many people can attest to is the VSA and power steering lights will seemingly randomly appear, but disappear once you get on the road. Some people say it happens when the steering rack gets really hot when doing slow driving with tight turning, but I'm unable to replicate it consistently.

I'm on my third civic here in Ontario, Canada. First was 2005, a 5 y lease. It was an OK car and successfully weaned us off our previous Honda, 1992 Accord, built in Japan, I believe.
Next up was buying a 2009 civic with 1.8 cc with 142HP + 128 Ft/lbs tourque. Good driving car but a little under powered. We owned this car for 8.5 y with no major issues and sold it with 177k Km at end of 2018. Next up is current driver, 2018 HB made in UK. A few more issues with this vehicle. Oil dilution problem apparently fixed with software update. We drove to Florida recently and noticed down there that the A/C wasn't working properly. It is a warranty problem with condenser corroding and losing refrigerant. That will be fixed for upcoming summer months. Another recent breakdown was the windshield washer pump seized up and had to be replaced. Car came installed with block heater for bone-chilling morning starts, like the morning we left for Florida, a month and half ago. Car has more room than sedan model, better passing power than 2009 model. I concur with garaging the car which might help in paint issues. I would say that the last 12 years of Honda civic ownership, being sedan and now hatchback, has been mostly gratifying. I fully support this car buying advocate, Your car angel, as one the most trustworthy. Thanks!

Thank you for this detailed video, I really value your opinions on buying used cars.. I will add something very important to this video however, it may have been useful to be clear that this information relates to Honda cars sold in North America, that may seem obvious to US viewers but TH-cam Is a global platform and I’m sure you have many international viewers like myself. I’ve bought used Hondas from Japan, Thailand and UK and the model names may be identical and even the generation and years of manufacture but the cars themselves are very very different. Perhaps coincidentally those are all RIght Hand Drive countries, but for sure there are differences in models with the same name. Your advice regarding buying garage kept cars is priceless, I always look for garage kept cars with full main dealer history from the supplying dealer, they can be hard to find but are rarely priced much higher than street kept cars with sketchy history.

I just sold my 2019 Civic LX with 30k miles. Worst car new car experience I’ve ever had. Towed in 3x for various issues. A failed AC condenser, a lower engine shield fell off. Now the CVT trans is thrashing around and in general a very anemic drive. And the kicker was the super thin sheet metal on it. My neighbor reached into the back seat to get something and used their forearm to lean on the roof pillar and POP a big unrepairable dent. There were a total of 3 roofline dents from this. Not a big deal but it cost me THOUSANDS when I sold it. I am a happy owner of a 2013 Civic LX now. I am able to push my finger into its c pillar roof line confidently without causing a $800 repair. Don’t believe me? Go press on the roof of your 2016-2020 civic. It’s a GARBAGE car.

I have a 2007 Honda Civic Lx with 390,300 miles on it and have no issues with it at all, I just stay up on the maintenance, it still looks like it was just purchased from the show room, no paint chipping or pealing. It's a much better car than my 2011 Ford Focus SeS which seems to have an issue every other day and it only has 47,000 miles elderly owned before I bought it.

Nice! I just bought my son his first car, a 2009 LX with 147k. Hope it lasts as long as yours.

You're so right I own a 2012 Honda Civic the window rubber wipes rotted away in about 3 years other than that its a great car no real problems.

I had a 2002 Civic Ex Automatic Coupe. It started out really awesome, almost magical, but then turned into a frequent repair nightmare. I got the impression that this was the type of car that a person bought brand new and traded in once it reached 100,000 miles. Right after it hit 100,000 miles, everything bad started happening. First, the rubber timing belt and the water pump had to be replaced. Then the weather stripping wore off the windows. Then the floor carpet started getting holes. The motor on the automatic rolling window on the driver side failed. The the battery on the key remote failed. Then the car battery itself died. Then the radio locked up and needed a security code. Then the transmission oil had to be replaced. Then all four spark plugs had to be replaced. Then all four ignition coils died. The gas cap wore out and leaked and caused the check engine light to come on. Then the ELD died and caused the check engine light to come on and it produced a vague and obscure error code that made it hard for most experienced mechanics to even detect. Then the gloss on the headlamps wore off to the point that they were extremely dim. Then the rubber protectant on the steering wheel wore off. Then both tail lights died. Then the thermostat failed. Then the radiator began to leak. Then I got recall notice after recall notice. The biggest and scariest one was that my air bags were defective and could self-deploy at any second with shrapnel that would instantly kill me. All of this within the same year of reaching 100,000 miles. No wonder they kept it at a 100,000 mile warranty. It was built to only last 100,000 miles. I hope they fired the folks who designed it.
Amazingly, I still bought another Honda. I am now driving a 2015 Civic Lx Sedan and 110,000 miles. Still praying at this point, but no real major problems yet. I have only had to change the oil, transmission fluid, wipers and tires. Maintenance indicator said to check the spark plugs, rotate tires and change the coolant. That's it.

2006 model problems only occurred in the U.S. models, because the failure was the U.S. Honda plants problem. In Finland for example the Civics were imported from Japan with a Japanese made engine. The car was bullet proof through and through. I did not have any issues with a 2006 model, not even with the automatic transmission which worked perfectly.

my 2010 manual transmission civic is the love of my life---223k kilometres---runs great...I have put about $3 k in the last 5 months only cause there is no way around it once you get this high in mileage---serpentine belt, alternator, new tires. I don't plan on selling my beauty--always said I would drive it into the ground and I will!!

Currently own a 2000 Civic EX and aside from a rusted out subframe i replaced and normal wear and tear, the car always runs >200K (does not burn oil!). First car was an 88 civic Hatch (burnt oil!), fell in love with Honda. Had a 1990 DX 4 door, 2003 LX, 2007 LX both replaced for a 2009 touring prius. You really seem to like cars so i share.

2008 Civic Lx just about to hit 100k miles.
Have the issue with the visor/mirror inside as well as sagging headliner and brittle window seals. The seals along the front windshield have completely disintegrated. Paint has been fine however. AC system has some issue but its cheaper to just fill with refrigerant once each summer. Rear control arms and both front CV Axels had to be replaced. Basically all of the suspension parts, did not hold up well in the northeast winters. Finally just yesterday replaced coolant thermostat that caused my first CEL!
She still starts right up every time though, and has never left me stranded, so even with this amt of issues Im satisfied because it could be a lot worse

I bought a 2012 Civic from 80k and drove it to 220k and no major issues except the wheel sensors went out and the minor problems mentioned here.
