    The key that you are referencing is a laser key or slider lock key. Locks that use these keys can either use pin tumblers, like most home locks or sliders, hence the name. Car manufacturers use them because they are supposedly difficult to circumvent, especially when combined with a security chip. You can also find them on higher end bicycle locks. I suspect in your case the lock uses standard tumbler pins, which is fairly easy to pick.

      Wow. Phenomenal information. Would they call that a wafer lock? I remember hearing something like that from the LPL (not going to reference the exact channel here but if you know about locks you probably know the LPL ;))

      @@canadianoperator Wafer locks are different. Unsurprisingly, they use wafers instead of pins. They are used in cabinets and other low security items because they are relatively easy to pick or jiggle open with simple tools. I have a set of jiggler keys that makes it easy to do a simple rake attack again them, which takes seconds to unlock them.

      They now changed this safe. There are different keys for each door

  • @gcanada3005

    The keys on them are now different for each side. That I can guarantee, they had one on display at my local store. I gave it a test drive. So they have addressed that issue

      That’s great, but it would be nice if they provided locks in retrospect to those who purchased these safes when the problem was still rampant.

    Would you consider doing the topic of gun owners insurance in future. There are potential risks and liabilities that we as gunowners could face.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is actually a great idea. It would be more of a talking head video, but absolutely a fantastic idea! I will definitely consider that :)

      I am not sure what is available and what I should have. Do some gun clubs require a certain amount in order to join>@@canadianoperator

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, certain clubs offer CCFR or CSAA membership WITH your membership to the club/range. My club includes a CSAA membership, which includes insurance, but I am also a CCFR member and have insurance through them as well, independently.
      What amount, if any, various clubs require will be up to them, and likely available on their respective websites.
      That said, it's always a good idea to have some level of insurance, one way or the other, irrespective of whether a club provides it. This is because it helps to cover you in more places than just the club in question.
      I may make a talking head video on this in the future, but for now I hope this has been helpful.

    Has anybody tried to get a replacement lock for these? I received one of these cabinets for free but the guy had already tried drilling the locks. Now looking for replacements but it seems like everything I see on Amazon is too small? Should I contact cabelas?

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Probably a good idea to contact them- seems like the later batches of these did come with different locks, the early batches like the one I (and presumably you) got had matching locks.

    What size of lights do you use? Just bought one of these thanks to your review! Now just need the lighting

      I use mostly small ones on the left side and two big ones on the right side (the gun side). Thank you! I really appreciate that :) that really helps the channel. A lot. 🙏
      Hope you enjoy yours :) they’re super useful.

    • @canadianoperator
      @canadianoperator  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the long ones :) I have 4 of them on the inside left on the ammo side, and on the inside top I use two (on the firearm side). They're fantastic. Battery lasts a surprisingly long time, and USB C to charge. Plus, safe is magnetic so... easy to mount :P
