You really did a amazing job on all parts of the building and filming, that knife if taken care of will last a lifetime, thank you for sharing your work, all the best to you and yours
Thanks! I don't have a rockwell measure due to my low budget but it should be 60hrc, or that's what the 80CrV2 tempering chart says. With puukkos I usually aim between 60 and 61hrc
A friend of mine ( knife maker ) said that after quenching a 3.2 mm blade , you can acheive a 58/59 hrc by tempering the blade in a oven for one hour at 200 C. the blade has a blue-ish color after tempering. I know that blue means high hardness around 61-62 hrc. Any thoughts ? He tested the blade on a rockwell measure a year ago.
Hardness after tempering depends on what steel you are using so do you know what steel he used? with common knife steels blue often means something like 56-58hrc which often is too soft for a knife to hold an edge very well. 200c for 1 hour should leave the hardness to a little over 60 hrc but again, it depends on the steel you use. The blade should be straw/light straw color after 1hour in 200c so are you sure it was 200c? about 250c or maybe a little less or more should make make the steel blue-ish color but this also depends on how clean the steel surface is.
He used 80crv2 3.2 mm. That's what he said 1 hour at 200c. Maybe with his current tools can not achieve a full hardness after quenching... I don't know. Any way thank you very much for the info. Keep up the good work.
Awesome job on the knife, I couldn’t help but notice the song was like a slightly varied ripoff version of little lion man by Mumford and sons with no lyrics haha
Thanks! Yeah another one of my belt sanders is from biltema. Tip: do not ever by that belt sander it is probably as bad as a belt sander can be and it just broke a week or two ago. But what do you mean with the sausage? I have visited biltema dozens of times and never seen them selling sausages there.
Sorry for a late reply but the spine is 4-5mm thick, blade is 90mm long, handle is 105mm, bevel is ground to zero and then added a very little secondary bevel and blade hardness is about 60-61hrc. Anything else you wanna know?
Terve! Yksinkertanen fulltang veitsi tupen kanssa yksinkertasilla materiaaleilla olis varmaankin sellanen 140-200€ Mulla on nettisivut joista ilmotankin kaikille tilaajille muutaman päivän päästä: www.mlcustomknives.wordpress.com Tarkemman hinnan osaan sanoa kun tiiän tarkallee millasen veitsen tilaisit. That's exactly what a puukko should look like in my book. Congratulations. If I could own one, I would not hesitate.

That was incredible! As a fellow bladesmith, I say well done. It's too bad people have to feel good about giving a thumbs down to such a craftsman.

Terve! Paljonko pyytäisit ihan normaalista puukosta tupen kanssa? Normaalilla tarkoitan "ei niin erikoista" esimerkkinä vaikka fulltang puukko.
