Thanks for the great video instructions for replacing the starter on my 2003 Bayou 250 (basically the same as a 220). I don't know if it was due to the difference in model year or 250 vs. 220 but I did not find it necessary to remove the plastics or wheel to get at the exhaust or starter. You were right on about that pesky starter bolt next to the cooling fins on the engine...I did have to file down several fins to be able to squeeze in an 8mm socket. I used a 1/4" drive socket and ratchet to finally get that bolt removed after almost stripping it with a closed end 8mm wrench. I found all your hints and advice extremely helpful and was able to complete the job in an hour and a half, even with the pesky starter bolt and even though this was my first time replacing a starter on my 2003 Bayou. I was impressed that the OEM starter lasted 18 years but didn't want to spend $400 on an OEM starter but I also didn't want to go the $30 cheap Chinese replacement starter and have to do the job all over again in a few months or so. After asking an ATV repair guy, I decided to go with a Quad Boss replacement starter for about $75...time will tell if it was worth the extra $40. Thanks again for the great videos (part1 and 2)!

Excellent video again. My daughter and I have been rebuilding a 97' Bayou together. She is 14, and has done 90% of the rebuild by watching your videos. The electrical system was a mess, but we figured it out and the starter is next on our list. It pull starts fine and runs smooth, so this will be a nice thing for her to have working. That is awesome, definitely great unforgettable memories. I'm 15 and been working on my dads Kawasaki bayou 220 1996. Been having carb problems and took it apart and cleaning it, got it running finally. But then it stopped running and It has no spark, and replaced the ignition coil still no spark. So now I guess I'm gonna try and check the stator😂. You sound like a great father too need more like you in this world now.

Rondeo Ziegler I did a search on ebay for " Kawasaki Bayou 220 starter " when I ordered mine so i did not really have a part number. I'm considering doing this. With a new battery it just barely turns the starter, and won't spin it enough to fire the engine. It'll spin faster with a car battery charger attached but then the battery takes a real beating.

My stud is moving too I’m gonna have to grind that sucker off I think that’s why my starter ain’t working because it’s not making a good connection and it won’t tighten down

How do you put the header pipe back on. I took mine off to paint and now I can’t get the header tight it just wiggles around. I just can’t figure out what order to put the 2 metal sleeves in. Do I put the 2 pieces in the head then the pipe then the collar? Or do I put the sleeves in the collar then put it on. If u could help I would appreciate it
Adam Loggins if memory serves me correct, there is a copper gasket that goes into the head first. Next insert the pipe into the head. Then place the two collars around the pipe and slide them into the head. Lastly slide the ring over everything and onto the studs installing the nuts while holding it in place. I would bet the copper gasket is missing if you have tried reassembly and it is still loose. Check out the link below to see the parts layout and part numbers. I have one of these that acts like the battery drains when I barley touch the throttle when trying to crank it. It will be turning over fine but doesn't crank often. When I give it any gas the starter stop and the neutral light dims. Any ideas what this could be?
567 drift 890 excellent question. I am not sure if they are exactly the same but my Clymer manual says on the front cover it covers both models. Sup buddy. Watched your brake video now I can stop. My bayou starts up 1st pull but the electric starter doesn’t. Do u think replacing the “cid ignition module” thing u mentioned could resolve the issue?
Truth B Told if the starter just clicks or does not turn over at all I would suspect the actual starter motor has given out and either needs to be replaced or rebuilt. If she runs by pull start, the ignition module and battery are fine. Hope this helps. ~Mr. C.

No kidding just remove the air box the 2 oil feed lines take the wire off and remove the starter
kinda like going around thee elbow to get to thee butt ho😅

Took mine out didn’t have to remove any of that stuff, only remove bolt to line an just moved out the way.

In other words is it a common issue that constantly keeps happening because I have a 98 Kawasaki Bayou 220

All of that isn’t nessesary I just took off one oil line and loosened the one that goes to the top end and took the starter out
