I'm so grateful for your chanel. I've always wanted to teach myself cake decorating but not to be a professional. I can't afford to pay for private lessons so this is just all so helpful! I just want to do it as a hobby for my family and friends ❤
Hi Parhar, I have seen people use either lemon juice or vegetable oil and there are some great videos on other channels about using those and the pro's and con's for both. I had heard of another product that was a alcohol alternative but I can't for the life of me remember the name('ve been trying, I thought if I gave it a few days it would come to me but it hasn't). And I can't find the comment thread where someone asked about it. I do remember them not loving the aftertaste it had so you might be better off trying the lemon juice or the oil. Hope this helps!
I always recommend following what ever the label says. These types of products are rated differently depending on where you are. It's about the ingredients that are used to make them and what the regulations say where you are, which means that the same metallic sprinkles that are edible in Canada are for decorative use only in the USA. In general there shouldn't be any harm from someone consuming a small amount of a product like that but there been some incidents of people using products from less established/knock-off companies that actually contained some toxic materials(like copper and lead). I always make sure I'm buy from.a reputable brand and follow the instruction, but yes I have know people and bakeries that use these directly on products and have had no incidents. Hope this helps.
@@CakeDecoratingSchool THANK YOU SO MUCH. Means a lot coming from an official culinary source. I purchase some of the best pixie (glitter) dust AND metallic (highlighter) powder from Bakell, Oh! Sweet Art, Caljava that are "non-toxic". I notice from Amazon will have more discrepancies about it being NOT edible. So, this clarified all the gray areas. This info will certainly help others. 🫶🏼🙏🏼
I've never tried it so I'm not sure if it would affect the way the chocolate behaves. But you can use the paint on white chocolate and white chocolate ganache and that works really well. Hope this helps!
that depends on a few factors. If you are just dry dusting it on the surface(you can do that with fondant) not very much. If you are doing a paint it will depend on how thick(opaque) you make it. I buy the big size because I use it a lot and it doesn't go bad so I like to have extra on had so I never worry about running out. The smaller sizes will go a long way but even those come with different weights depending on the brand. I don't do a lot of full coverage painting on tiers so I'm not the best judge of how much you need but if I was buying the small pots(weights) I would probably get 2 or 3 just to make sure I have enough as it will also depend on how tall you make the cake. Hope this helps!
the vodka evaporates very quickly so in most cases it just takes a few minutes for it to evaporate. It may remain a bit tacky for a while longer if you are in a very humid environment. It varies a lot depending on what you are painting on, how much liquid you use and your environment.
highlighter gold is recommended to be used for decorative use only. It also depends a bit on where you are in the world. When you are buying you can check the listings. I know some brands like Roxy and Rich are rated as edible in Canada and the EU and for decorative purposes only in the US. If you wanted to paint on buttercream you can always remove those areas before serving the cake if you are unsure.
I'm not sure they would last very long after you do but I've never tried it. You can always use the edible gold dust on them dry and give them a light gold sheen which would be lovely.
as long as the buttercream you use will set up in the fridge so you can paint them while they are firm it will. But it would probably be a time consuming task if you are looking for full coverage. If you are looking to do gold rosette cupcakes i would do the following. Make a gold tone/tan buttercream and then buy edible gold spray that will give you full coverage and a nice gold sparkle with our having to hand paint each one. Hope this helps!
hi Lilian, we are using vodka which is a liquor(or spirit if your prefer that term). While you cam use the other types of liquor like whiskey or tequila have a natural color to them and flavor, which depending on what your are doing may not work in your favor. I like either grain alcohol or vodka since they are flavorless and colorless, vodka is just easier to come by for everyone since grain alcohol isn't available everywhere. Hope this helps!
there is a link in the description you can follow if you want highlighter dust. If you want luster dust you should be able to just search for it on amazon using that term. scrolling down from the listing in the link it showed me several similar products including luster dusts. Hope this helps!
you can use this to paint on buttercream and on set white chocolate drips. It's important to not that the rating for these can change based on what country you are in and may be considered edible in some while in others would be listed for decorative use only. If it's for decorative use only then those areas should be removed from the cake before service. Hope this helps!

If you are looking for edible dusts to use you can check the tagged products we have for this video and check out bakeries line of edible gold dust which you can use just like we are demoing in this video.

What else possibly we can use instead of alcohol, I mean is there any chance to use be free alcohol?

WHAT IS THE HARM with putting a non-toxic metallic dust/paint, dragees, glitter to a cookie, chocolate or cake? Thanks.

Would you be able to mix the dust in with melted white chocolate to make gold chocolates?

Approximately how much gold luster dust would I need to cover an 8" double layer cake?

Can you use this on royal icing for cookies?
yes, it can be used to paint on royal icing.
@@CakeDecoratingSchool thanks!
How long does this take to dry if you use vodka to mix it, then paint it on icing?

It says, "not to be consumed" on the label?

So... if you eat this will it hurt you??
It means like don’t dump the container of gold dust on your mouth and swallow lol it means it’s ok in SMALL decorating amounts
You think I could paint fresh raspberries gold with this technique? ☺️
I'm not sure they would last very long after you do but I've never tried it. You can always use the edible gold dust on them dry and give them a light gold sheen which would be lovely.
Can we mix it with simple water
water won't evaporate quickly enough and can ruin the surface you are painting on.
What u add with golden luster
I use the same method with gold luster dust and highlighter dust, it can also be used with petal dusts to paint with them as well.
Is this real metallic gold? 😮
no this isn't, but you can get edible gold leafing that is real gold if that is what you are looking for!
Is this real gold
no, it you are looking for real edible gold, there is edible gold leafing you can use or edible gold glitter.
Can i use this on buttercream rosettes on cupcakes?

Do u have an halal alternative to alcohol?
What ever you use needs to evaporate quickly so you either need to use alcohol or something with alcohol in it like an extract.
I use lemon juice
@@palaashaggarwal6945 does it work?
@@arpitasingh5614 yes it does...but a very little amount
