      You're welcome Daphne! Hmmm good question - in all honesty I've never painted an entire cake using the vegetable oil. I know when painted on a drip it's okay because you're only using a small amount and the chocolate itself has oil in it, but I'm not so sure about when painting an entire buttercream cake. Sorry about that!!

This is my first time using this is it normal for the gold to come of on your fingers? Thank you in advance

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deb! So when painting objects or chocolates, it's best to use a non-oil based mixture (in case you are using the oil) as the oil won't dry completely. When using say water or lemon juice, then what you need to do is paint one side, let it dry then paint the other side. Sometimes you may also need a double coat. Once dried it shouldn't really stick to your fingers (there may be some residue but it shouldn't come off what you've painted on if that makes sense). Hope that helps and good luck :)

    I’m wondering if coconut oil will work the same as the vegetable oil?

    • @lamemechose7072
      @lamemechose7072 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, which complicates things. If you live in a very hot place where coconut oil is liquid at room temp, then it would probably work. Any oil labeled canola, corn, peanut, soybean, or vegetable is liquid at all temperatures (hot & cold), which eliminates the temperature variable. And unless someone has an allergy, those oils are all neutral in flavor and are almost always interchangeable in recipes.
      Tl;dr: you can experiment with coconut oil and it should work. But any other neutral oil is basically guaranteed to work, no experimenting necessary.

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Seireen! As the other user has kindly mentioned, if the coconut oil is liquid at room temperature then it should be okay. Just be mindful of the taste :)

    • @CakesbyMK

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Whipped cream is quite soft so I'm not sure if it will work. Perhaps on a stable whipped cream frosting it may be okay, but buttercream will work better :)

  • @kausaransari4329

    Can we use it on whipped cream cakes?...N yeah while using lemon juice or extract won't they'll taste in the cake....They will give a different lemony flavour to the icing as we'll obviously use it on the icing?...plz answer

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! It depends on how soft your whipped cream is - if it is a stable whipped cream frosting that sets quite firmly in the fridge then it should be okay :). And yes it will give a very subtle taste of the lemon or extract, so just make sure you use those options on cake flavours that will suit those tastes, otherwise it'll be best to stick with water :)

    Love the video! I recently came across this product called "Rolkem Quick Dry Essence" and just got it in the mail today. It's non-alcoholic and I'm eager to see if it works well with painting with luster dust! Although, I'm glad there are other options I can try as well! Would the vegetable oil leave a greasy mouthfeel on the cake?

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ayesha! :) Ohh interesting thanks for sharing - would love to hear how it goes! And hmmm good question. I am not too sure to be honest, but when making the gold paint you only need a really small amount of oil - so I think it should be okay if you're only painting small areas of a cake :)

      So glad to hear you found this helpful! :) Yes you can if the whipped cream is stable and sets relatively firmly. And hmm good question! I guess it could be haha I usually just use the gel colours like that or with a little water but never though to try anything else :)

      Any extract should work well! :) Just remember that the lemon may leave a slight tangy taste so if it doesn't go well with the flavour of your cake, then you may want to use water. Good luck with your cake I'm sure you'll do great! :)

    Hey , Did you tasted it. ? Last time I applied Golden dust water mixture on whipping cream cake but it ended up with unpleasant taste ... Can you suggest me way To avoid it ?

    • @CakesbyMK
      @CakesbyMK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! I didn't taste it during this trial, but have tasted cakes with edible gold paint on them in the past. Lustre dust itself shouldn't really have a taste, so if you mixed it with water then I'm not quite sure what is causing the unpleasant taste. Did you use colouring in your cake? If so, then perhaps there was too much colouring which may have caused the unpleasant taste. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
