Chose same. Just started following you. I love that you are easy to watch. Do you have a favorite-all natural powder or liquid color? Or can you do a video on how to paint fondant and chocolate with plant based food dyes or powders? I saw another video where you used cocoa powder, but what about other plant powders? I read that blue food color is unhealthy and is used in sprinkles (banned in all but USA)...so want to be sure not using toxic stuff.
OMG I totally appreciate every second, minute, hours, and days of research and time that you invested and sharing your findings with your fans. Your technique of testing and comparison was clever and well thought-out. Prior to you applying the gold leaf I thought the first 4. The gold leaf was definitely a good test of comparison. I like the same as you. Please know you’re so appreciated and I’m shocked you don’t have more views and likes for this video.
I had originally bought one of the edible gold paint on you list, but after seeing your video, I was sold on the PCB brand which Amazon now sells as Homehere Gold Luster Dust. Love how you were informative and right to the point. Great video!!! Thanks.
I have watched 50 videos on Cookie Decorating. BY FAR - this video is the most accurate, descriptive and well-done. Her content is great and her opinions are pretty spot-on! Thanks for making this U-tube! Keep up the good work!
I'm a 73 year old retired science teacher. If this was a science project I'd give you an A+. I liked the 3rd one but obviously the 1st and 2nd were closer to gold. I'm in the process of repainting the gold frame around some of our artwork and come across your videos and subscribed. Excellent work! 🇦🇺
Roxy&Rich NU Silver is great. I use it all of the time for a local high school with black and silver colors. Love it!!! Also, Roxy&Rich soft gold it very nice. Thank you for your video. It was very helpful!!
Thank you so much for this video. I am just getting into gold paint and it's overwhelming. Thank you for doing the test on both chocolate and foundat. as I changed my mind on some of the brands. You rock!
I appreciate you doing so much research as it is what I would do but I’m just getting started in decorative part of baking . However, I’ve been baking in general for 50 years now. Cake decorating is a new hobby for my side at home business so your videos give slot of info and is helpful
Hi Brittnee. Thanks for your time and effort you spent on this research. I use "Roberts Edible Craft". Their edible metallic lustre dust comes in several colours and I find them to have very good coverage and superb shine.
#1 and #2 gold were my top picks. I also loved the way you compared them side by side. That helped a lot to be able to see color differences AND I thought the colored metallics were fun too!
Love this video ❤ thank you so much for the detailed video for months I’ve been looking for a good gold dust for cookies you have no idea how much this video has helped now I will order the PCB one ..yaaahh
Thank you for taking the time to research, test, and do a visual with comparison. Excellent show of care for customers and the confection industry. I’ve learned a lot about metallic powders. I’m shocked that so many inedible food-use products are in the market.
Thank you so much for this video. I've spent hours trying to find a gold for Shamrock cookies that I'll be using Royal Icing..the gold is just for highlighting. The problem is that so many of the colors here in the states (doesn't matter which brand) they all contain Titanium Dioxide, which is apparently ok with the FDA; however, Europe banned Titanium Dioxide a while ago and none of their foods or cosmetics contain it. I had seen HomeHere Luster Powder was made in France...so I'm going with that one. You did an awesome job with this video. Bravo!
Thank you I’m so glad you appreciated it! Before you make your decision I actually have an update video you might want to check out because I think I finally found my absolute favorite gold luster!! th-cam.com/video/oWmmeUXHKw8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gcZ0BFCDOOFs_RxP
Wow, this was SO thorough and incredibly helpful. I'm always on the hunt for the best metallic paints! Thank you so much for putting this together! I also use Pastry Ideale for display pieces, but I'm definitely saving this video for when I need to paint with something edible!
Thanks for the comment, you are so welcome! Ahh you can't beat Pastry Ideale, it is SOOOOO PRETTY! But yes, the other options are good to have around! I'm glad you found it helpful!!
I def agree with you about loving the pcp one because that's all I use! So I might be bias 🤣 but thank you so much for this video because I've always been on the fence about getting the gold from Bakell but now I will! And the pcp/fancy sprinkles silver! Thank you! 😁
Glad you're sharing this with us. I wonder how many home bakers don't know what they're doing and are busy putting the wrong kind of paint on food items.
I am not sure about Rolkem as I have never used it, but it looks like a very good color. In one description I see that it says edible in Europe, Australia, and Canada otherwise is considered non-toxic. (www.sugardelites.com/Gold-Metallic-Super-Dust-By-Rolkem_p_2660.html) I am definitely interested in trying it out! :) Have you used it before?
Thanks so much for doing the review! I’ve made the mistake of using the creative cake decorating brand one too but it’s just soooo prettyyy! Can you please test out some Rolkem gold metallic lustres? ☺️
Perfect timing! I was just looking for a good gold color. The first one I bought was a big disappointment. Love your videos! Thanks so much for sharing!
This was so helpful. I've been researching gold paints as well and was really overwhelmed. TMP looks like a nice shiny gold. I wonder how it compares to the PCP gold in your video
I suspect the first 2 were actually from the same manufacturer, just with their private label on them because they were exact. For shine, I’d pick the 3rd on and the first two for preferred gold tone(not too yellow, or too green or orange) great choices and I so appreciate you doing this investment of money and time because it’s been might frustrating to have your choice and money spent go up in dust. Thanks so much!
Great review, I liked it a lot. You put a lot of effort into making this video, thank you. Unfortunately none of these colors are available for Germany. Maybe because they have been sold out in the meantime. I was looking for colors of "Rainbow dust", in particular gold and red. I would love it if you could repeat your haul and include red metallic colors, too.
Thanks so much for this!!! I love how you showed each on a different texture. I was wondering what your thoughts would be on which one would work best on buttercream?
I enjoyed this video a lot! You do such a great job for all of us out here. I recently communicated with you about cocoa butter difficulties with the 1.7oz cocoa butter jars. I used your suggestion of melting them (it took hours) and putting the cocoa butter in the plastic containers you use. However, after seeing this video, any chance you will do an in depth video on cocoa butters? Which ones you recommend, what can be mixed with them and why, etc. As always, thank you.
Thank you so much!! 🥰 Oh I’m glad the cocoa butter advise was helpful for you! As for a video on them I could do a comparisons for different brands and such! I can add it to my video list, thanks for the suggestion!
💜 This was such a great video.. informative but most importantly entertaining because we both had similar reactions every time you painted! 🤣😂🙌 Thank you! I agreed with your conclusion. And I'm so glad you used the PCB because it's what I use and it's been my favorite!
The Ice Gold looks more like an Antique Gold to me. What about putting the gold leaf on a chocolate square? My favorite one and the one I think you should pick is #3 or the PCB Gold. The Silver PCB is my favorite and I hope you pick it!
I hope you'll do a part 2 of this! And can you try the brand TMP. I saw it on some of the IG post and it was blinding. Thank you for this I almost bought the sweetsticks and SA
Hi there! Am working on coloring some stars cut out from baking white chocolate chips and went with your fave choice here, the PCB. But...what can I use to mix the dust to paint over white chocolate? I was told I shan't use either vodka or lemon extract over white chocolate? Thank you! I am an amateur and lots to learn!
Oh I would totally use vodka or lemon extract over white chocolate. What was the reason you were told not to, just curious! :) I will say though that I do find gold and silver both show much better when it comes to chocolate over dark chocolate. They just end up looking more saturated, whereas over white chocolate they end up a bit diluted and lighter in color. But of course it just comes down to preference! Let me know if that helps!
I've made the mistake of using the luxe cake one😅 so far I've used the sugar art fuchsia, lavenders bake shop gold luster dust, oh sweet art from Amazon and wilton pump one😄
haha! We've all done it! Who knew all these cake brands were making inedible powders!! I'll have to check out some of those brands you mentioned! How do you think they compare to my top 3 here? Worth looking into?
ommggggg thats what i been using since i started my cake. i been reading reviews in amazon and many said that PCB has the best mettalic gold look. and u have shown thr confirmation compare to others.
Thank you so much for this video!! The colorwheel comparison between the paints vs gold leaf was very helpful! I also agree with your top 3 and #1 !! And that "antique" gold ..yuck! Lol. Felt they went too green, maybe throw a little copperish color to it?
Thanks for this video, super helpful!! I just got some of the pcb and am waiting on the Bakell to arrive. My only complaint about the pcb is that it's so very -yellow- of a gold. Do you have any experience with mixing two different brands together / do you think that could work to tone it down a little? Its my favorite coverage and shine so I don't want to give up on it yet haha!
You’re so welcome! I totally agree! It seems all the inedible ones are more yellow, but yes you can totally mix them! It’s fun to experiment and come up with your favorite!
thank you for this video! I have been asked to do a roaring 20's cake in butter cream frosting! can I use the the favorite shine one and do a drip down the sides. what do you think?
Did you ever try to paint polycarbonate cavity with a mixture of lemon extract ( or vodka) + gold powder before pouring chocolate? If so, what is the result?
Yeah! I do it in a lot of my chocolate videos. Check out my playlists to watch more, but I'll link one off the top of my head where I splatter gold. It works great, but you have to use it in designs where you aren't adding other designs on top or it will move : ) th-cam.com/video/rjGoYeBWeDs/w-d-xo.html
Hello, this was fun because I am colorblind. My worse colors are yellow and green. I liked #3. To me that really popped. If I was to pick for myself it would be #3. But I liked 1,2 and 3 like you said also.
I liked the PCB, I have the Bakell at home and I tried it on fondant, it was a little bit different than the colour that you got, maybe because I used it with water.
Did the Bakell mix well with water? On Amazon, it says the brand doesn’t recommend mixing it with water, but I’m trying to avoid using extracts or alcohol for mixing.
@@carolynnettles3767 I'm not sure, I never use water when I paint. My preference is lemon extract. If the listing recommends not using it with water then they probably know best, but you could always try it!
Thank you! So glad you liked the video. Yes, you can totally paint buttercream with these. You can mix it with lemon extract just like I do in this vid :)
I very much appreciated this! Also, I haven’t been terribly worried about the gold that isn’t FDA approved because the US is the only place it isn’t. Since I feel like many other countries have more stringent laws regarding food additives, I kinda feel like if they all allow it it can’t really be that bad? 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah I'm not super worried about it either. I used the "non-toxic" one for years and in small doses I'm sure it's fine. It's all kind of confusing for sure! Also, I think the FDA is kind of a joke and can't really be trusted to begin with...so it's all up to us to decide I think!! 😆 But I guess the more we know the better decisions we can try to make! 😃
I'm glad it was helpful for you!! After trying all of these brands out I think the same brands that were my top picks from this video would also be the best for buttercream! So I would suggest the PCB and Bakell for anything you're doing whether it be buttercream, royal icing, chocolate, or fondant!
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! If you mean use loose powder on top of the layers painted with lemon extract that is a good question, I have never tried it! I'm guessing it would look the same, but now I'm kinda curious!
I was going to buy The Sugar Art Mermaid for a mermaid cake. What did you think of it in person? Have you tried or compared it to Roxy and Rich Teal or Turquoise? Have you tried the Roxy and Rich Sparkle dusts? Will the sparkle dust paint well or just sprinkle on? Thank you in advance. Wish I saw this before I bought silver and gold from CK Products.
The Sugar Art Mermaid one worked really well and was super pretty! I would recommend any of their colors! I haven't tried the R&R sparkle dusts. Usually ones that are sparkles don't work well for mixing and painting. Sorry you already bought the CK, but you can definitely still use it on items that people maybe don't eat on cakes (like decorations you take off before serving) because it is non-toxic. :D Hope that helps!
@@BrittneeKay Thank you for the response. CK says edible luster dust so I assumed it was edible. R and R has a luster dust as well but the warning about sparkle dust was very helpful. This will be my first time working with the dusts. Specifically for 3 different projects - a purple amethyst for an elegant version of a bling cake, Christmas red (possibly deeper so it can double on a goth cake) to stencil on sugar cookies that I want to have texture and glisten's like snow, and a cake with a few mermaids I'll make out of modeling chocolate, paint with a luster dust, and add the sparkle dust over parts so it looks like it's shimmering in moonlight. I was thinking either a typical teal or turquoise with some type of deeper blue and incorporating a copper glitter I already have. I've been having a hard time finding comparisons between brands with these colors, between shades within each brand, and between the dust types. There seem to be so many - highlighter, petal luster, iridescent, sparkle, etc and without seeing or testing them in person it's hard. Right now I'm considering Bakell, Roxy and Rich, The Sugar Art, and now Home Here after your review. If you or anyone knows of any online resources to help chose, I'd greatly appreciate it.
@@Glaze777 Yes! With so many things available it's hard to predict, sometimes you just have to take a chance and test them out. Sounds like you've got lots of fun projects to have fun with! You should send me some pics on instagram once you've made them, I'd love to see!
Yes! The different shades make it hard! I wish some of the brands with a ton I would have not picked the antique colors so the comparison would have been closer, but there were just too many choices!! 😄
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I thought that I would share some of my findings, since I happened to notice a couple things that may have been missed. The third dust (PCB aka HomeHere) claims to be 100% edible, but there was one commenter on Amazon that claims to have tried microwaving it and that it set her microwave on fire, implying that it actually does have heavy metals in it. That is all I have found regarding that one, but because the label was so questionable, I figure that person's experience is worth at least a grain of salt. The Sunflower Sugar Art dust that was displayed as being for decoration purposes only is their Highlighter, which is under their Craft section rather than Edible section. Why companies like to say that it goes well on foods like fondant and chocolate is beyond me - it's so misleading and dangerous for them to do that! So I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the research and money that you spent to experiment with these and share the results. Better to be safe than sorry! 💜
Thank you!! I agree that the Amazon brand is questionable…I wonder if they are fraudulent 😤 But if you can find the real PCB brand, it is legit and I have seen many professional chocolatiers use it at this point. I even bought it from another source and it’s weird because it actually looks exactly the same as that HomeHere brand so it’s confusing. With that said, I think purchasing from a food supply store is probably more reliable! And yeah everyone seems to use the Sunflower Sugar Art 😕 Thanks for your comment!!
I haven't personally used Everclear but I've heard it is a great replacement for the lemon extract along with vodka. You can also use 200 proof food grade ethanol. :)
Hmm in theory it should stay inevitably, but if the strawberries were to get juicy and soft and the fridge is humid that could affect the shine. But even with that I would say you're pretty safe to try it and it'll stay for a long time!
Great video! Enjoyed it. I'm late in adding my opinion but...I use Sweet Sticks Edibleart liquid champagne gold and light silver. I make sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting. The paints cover well, choice of hues of gold and silver. I do want to try PCB though
Thanks! And thanks for the comment! I love to hear any recommendations :) Mmm I love sugar cookies and they must have cream cheese frosting. I bet those look great with the champagne color!!
omg yes Creative Cake Decorating... I read the description and I was like sooo confused... why would CAKE DECORATING make a product that's basically a craft store can sell. I hate when company does that, and I don't care if they labeled it for decoration only. They KNOW what they are trying to get away with.
Brittnee, you are the most awesome person EVER! You’re the only one that answers and when we are beginners, we have so many questions! Thank you for being SO generous ♥️
Which gold and silver paints did you think were best? ✨ Do you have any other good brands I didn't try? Comment below!!
Chose same. Just started following you. I love that you are easy to watch. Do you have a favorite-all natural powder or liquid color? Do you have any experience with mixing two different brands together / do you think that could work to tone it down a little? Its my favorite coverage and shine so I don't want to give up on it yet haha!
You’re so welcome! I totally agree! It seems all the inedible ones are more yellow, but yes you can totally mix them! It’s fun to experiment and come up with your favorite!
thank you for this video! I have been asked to do a roaring 20's cake in butter cream frosting! can I use the the favorite shine one and do a drip down the sides. what do you think?
Oh that'll be so cool! Yes you can use any of these to paint a drip with!
Of your top three, do these smudge? I do RI cookies and I’ve found that the gold I use smudges the inside of the cello bags.
I’ve never had that issue but I can’t say for sure. I used PCB last year on hot cocoa bombs in plastic bags and they didn’t rub!
@@BrittneeKay thank you!
It works great, but you have to use it in designs where you aren't adding other designs on top or it will move : )

Hello, this was fun because I am colorblind. My worse colors are yellow and green.
I liked #3. To me that really popped. If I was to pick for myself it would be #3.
But I liked 1,2 and 3 like you said also.
Oh wow! That is so interesting!!
I liked the PCB, I have the Bakell at home and I tried it on fondant, it was a little bit different than the colour that you got, maybe because I used it with water.
Oh that could definitely be!
Did you do a similar one for rose gold? I would love that one
I have not but that is a good idea!!
Hi, watched your video for the first time and I loved that it was so thorough. I do have a question would any of these work on buttercream?
Thank you! So glad you liked the video. Yes, you can totally paint buttercream with these. You can mix it with lemon extract just like I do in this vid :)
Really helpful, thank you!
You’re welcome!!
Thank you for the info very helpful.Im glad I'm not the only one who struggled with that pallets.
This video is very helpful. Could you test out edible dusts on buttercream cakes or recommend the best ones?
I'm glad it was helpful for you!! After trying all of these brands out I think the same brands that were my top picks from this video would also be the best for buttercream! So I would suggest the PCB and Bakell for anything you're doing whether it be buttercream, royal icing, chocolate, or fondant!
Sooo, my question is, do these lusters effect the flavor of your chocolate or fondant at all?
When I use lemon extract you can taste it! But I enjoy it. If you use a different vehicle like water or vodka there is probably less taste!
How do you think mixing your favorites would work? Hmmm. Maybe I'll try it for you & let you know! ❤ Love how informative your video is! Thank you!
Aw thank you!! Ohh good idea, would be fun to try! Maybe I'll pull them out sometime and give it a try! 🤩
I like the Bakell for gold - PCB for silver
🤩
The first one that you painted Bakell
🤩
This is awesome! First three for me!
You have good taste! 😄
Would you consider rolkem seeing they have both edible and non edible aswell as FDA Approved
Yeah as long as it says edible then it should be good! I’ll have to try that brand it looks like a good one!
The Pcb is my favorite
Yeah!
What would happen if you dusted over the paint? Would it make it more metallic-y? Thank you for doing this. I loved it!
Hi, could you please suggest me an airbrush that I could use it for spraying gold dust on chocolate.
thank you for your answer
Yeah, check out my video all about my airbrush on my channel! I use Tritium : )
Thanks for your quick reply ❤
Of course!@@saharmoayeri8288
I just purchased the sugar art super gold on Amazon before I watched this. 🤞that it will work on my chocolate dipped strawberries and marshmallows!
I'm sure they'll turn out great!! 😍
There are different shades of real gold. Guess this may be a tough choice for some. I like # 3 on the wheel but 4 is my choice. Thx for your research
Yes! The different shades make it hard! I wish some of the brands with a ton I would have not picked the antique colors so the comparison would have been closer, but there were just too many choices!! 😄
I want to know if you can paint on butter cream frosting
Yes you can! Just chill it in the fridge so it’s firm first!
And yeah everyone seems to use the Sunflower Sugar Art 😕
Thanks for your comment!!
Will the colors come out the same if using Everclear?
I haven't personally used Everclear but I've heard it is a great replacement for the lemon extract along with vodka. You can also use 200 proof food grade ethanol. :)
I'm curious how it paints onto buttercream?
They paint great onto chilled buttercream as well!
If I painted the PCB gold dust on strawberries, how long will the gold stay shiny in terms of hours and days?
Hmm in theory it should stay inevitably, but if the strawberries were to get juicy and soft and the fridge is humid that could affect the shine. But even with that I would say you're pretty safe to try it and it'll stay for a long time!
@@BrittneeKay Ok, thanks...😉
Great video! Enjoyed it. I'm late in adding my opinion but...I use Sweet Sticks Edibleart liquid champagne gold and light silver. I make sugar cookies with cream cheese frosting. The paints cover well, choice of hues of gold and silver. I do want to try PCB though
Thanks! And thanks for the comment! I love to hear any recommendations :) Mmm I love sugar cookies and they must have cream cheese frosting. I bet those look great with the champagne color!!
I was waiting for Luxe cake brand. 24 karat gold
I'll have to try it!
EXCELLENT VIDEO
I too (as a Teacher) give you an A+
Aww you’re so sweet, thanks!
Yes I agree with you
omg yes Creative Cake Decorating... I read the description and I was like sooo confused... why would CAKE DECORATING make a product that's basically a craft store can sell. I hate when company does that, and I don't care if they labeled it for decoration only. They KNOW what they are trying to get away with.
AGREE!! Why make it confusing? And why say decoration only and tempt us with the prettiest and most metallic powders?! lol
This was really helpful.
Glad you liked it!!
What did you use to mix the lustre dust
I mix it with lemon extract!
Wow you should come out with your own silver CLEARLY 😌
Oh my gosh one day I want to sell metallics 🤩
After being spoiled by the first 3, the pristine one made me feel extra serendipity. In my mind, I was like "off! Off with you, I say!" 😂
Haha me too!!! 😂😂😂
1 and 2 are the same. Just different companies selling same powder. So go for the less expensive one and mix with #3. Bam💣🤯💓
I've totally thought that too, I'm sure many companies get theirs from the exact same place!
@@BrittneeKay I would love to see you mix #2. I think it would be exactly like gold leaf💖
@@lauralove5347 I may have to try that!!
Brittnee…if we use vodka with the powder to paint the chocolate on strawberries, is it safe for kids to eat? 🤷🏻♀️
Yes it is! The vodka will evaporate quickly and the powder will be dry and they will be totally fine! :D
Brittnee, you are the most awesome person EVER! You’re the only one that answers and when we are beginners, we have so many questions! Thank you for being SO generous ♥️
@@beuba5938 🥰 Awww well you are so welcome. That's what I am here for! I want to help you guys as much as I can! :)
Thank you for this tutorial! You must have spent a 10gm gold bar putting it together for us! My choice is now clear! Well… gold.
Awww you are so welcome! :D Thanks for the comment!
What edible gold flakes do you use? are they made in the US?
I list all the different brands within this video! Watch and see which you like best!
What's the circular thing you painted on? Anybody know?
Yes, it is just fondant that I rolled out!
@@BrittneeKay Oooo. Thanks
I use bakell and PCB
Nice!! Exact same and my faves!
any of those products containing no e171 titanium dioxide? because i heard that's harmful.
I am not sure, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully brands will not label anything as "edible" that isn't safe!
@@BrittneeKay well, i think only germany has banned the substance so far. other countries still say it's edible, but it has some health concerns.
@@kalfaxplays7899 Oh dang. Well, thank you for the heads up! I am going to check labels for that to see if they say!
Does it rub off easily after applying it?
Depends on which brand. But generally it can rub off on your fingers if you swipe it but it stays on quite well and won't just fall off.
how to use this on jelly?
I've never tried it before!
The 4th dust (ice gold) and 5th dust looks more brown than gold.
num 4 i like
Number 3 for me I
🤩
