Can you change enneagram type?

  • I took the IDR labs enneagram test. I usually get enneagram 6w7 closely followed by enneagram 4. But i now took the test and enneagram 4 was at 90%, followed by enneagram 6, 9 at around 70%.
I am of the opinion that MBTI doesn't change but enneagram can change. I'm in no way an expert on enneagram so take this with a grain of salt.

Completely agree, I also believe that MBTI is a fixed thing and enneagram can very much change. It is so confusing actually that you got 4, but not really a proper wing for it. I actually think that's a sign that the test isn't so great. I did another random enneagram test twice actually and got 6w7, which is funny - who knows what it means. Hm I've always heard that the instinctual variants are some sort of breakaway, protestant type of enneagram theory and yeah, it certainly doesn't seem that useful.

Yes i guess if i really was a 4 maybe i would have more 5 or 3 wing, but i guess the test was not really to discover wings.

Hey Ingrid, It's good catching up with you. You've been so prolific with videos lately. ☺ I don't know much more about enneagrams myself, though yes, makes sense that they'd be more 'fluid' and MBTI would be more 'solid'...so to speak. I've come to feel like both 4 & 9 depending on the circumstances...plus those are the only two things I've tested as. 🙂Hope you're well and settling well into your new digs. -Carm

Hmm yes i guess you could be 4 or 9 depending on the circumstances, i guess enneagram is more fluid in that way. Thanks, I'm making a lot of videos to distract myself from the fact i have no wifi 😅

    Hello Ingrid,
I don't know much about enneagram.
Nice observations and nice analogy with the computer.
I did the test and I got 4w5 if I interpreted right the result. They say it's about being feeling different and it somehow matches a big chunk of my life.
I don't know what's instinctual variants maybe I will check it out.
It was nice to see you again.

its kinda confusing sometimes because there's connecting lines in the enneagram everywhere. A 279 for example has wings toward 1 and 3, with growth and stress lines to 4 and 8, so that's over half the enneagram types covered already :,) some people think it's worth looking at wings of tritypes too but I think that's a bit of a stretch, but if you do then with wings and growth/stress lines you're connected to every type. I'm not sure if all tritypes connect to all types or not though
im a bit lost on instincts too, theres definitions for all 3 but there's also specific definitions for example sp 7 vs sx 7 or so 7 and each has a counter instinct type which is often mistyped as another (like counterphobic 6 looking like an 8, not sure which instinct it was)

    • @radishraven9
      @radishraven9  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes exactly, you could be every type at once with all the connections with wings, growth and stress lines, variants, tritypes... i find that if there is so much overlap the whole system becomes rather useless and difficult to use in a coherent way.

@@radishraven9 yeah can seem like that a lot, but there's usually a most dominant type. If you have a lot of things going on in life though I'm guessing one would be equipping the necessary skills of different types for each situation

496 is a pretty common type for INFPs. Having no wings just means you have a balanced personality : in enneagram theory you should aim to get balanced wings.
I also have a fluctuating tritype. Switching back and forth between 594 and 549.
As for instinctual variants, they are linked to the ennegram types because their expression varies wildly depending on which type they are associated with. An SO 2 for example looks nothing like a SO 5.

Hmm interesting, but what does it mean if 4 is high but both 3 and 5 are super low? I used to have tritype 641 and now it seems to be 469.

@@radishraven9 Well, as you know you can only have one type by sector. So in some way the types in the same sector are cannibalizing each other. If your 4 is strong, it's lowering the score of 2 and 3. If your 6 is strong it's lowering the score of 5 and 7. If your 9 is strong it is lowering the scores of 1 and 8.
5 is a very special enneagram type. I can see why you are not a 5. It's both the rarest and the least sociable of them all. Not because we hate people but because we learned to be self-reliant from a young age. You talk too much about about your friends, family, colleagues, patients ... to be a 5. Some INFPs have 5 in their tritype (being something like 459, or even rarer 549) but it's definitely not the most common. Often it comes in people with a "misunderstood artist" archetype : "No one can understand me so why bother looking for the support of others ?". For me, as an INTP, it's nothing special, just the default setting from the INTP factory.
As for your switch from 1 to 9, and 4 taking precedence over 6, I guess that as you finished (or are finishing ?) your studies you started to change your perspective on life.
      * [1 switching to 9] Now that you know your craft, finding some kind of peace (work-life balance, setting boundaries with patients, coworkers, family ...) becomes more important than striving for perfection in your studies.
      * [4 taking precedence over 6] Your introspective journey (interest in the MBTI and the enneagram, autism and ADHD diagnosis ...) might have allowed you to become more self-reliant and assertive (or at least to aim to go in that direction), to allow you to be fully yourself, and to be less dependant on the acceptance of others.
Sorry for this poor man psychanalysis. I just can't help trying to understand things (and people). x)
