Debra Williams actually probably not. A large majority of employee fraud/embezzlement is never prosecuted. A lot of people don't want the negative publicity and they have insurance for such things.
@Robert Frank I agree. I had an ex-boss that embezzled nearly $71K from the company over the course of 4 years. She used that money to send her kids to college and even for part of a downpayment for a new house. She quit before they could even get her and she moved back to Florida.
PUT HER IN JAIL! How dare she steal from her parents! The parents who have built this business with blood, sweat, and tears. The parents who gave her a job.
and that's not fair for them. They've to see and walk past her I assume everyday. Her parents are enablers and it's not fair to other employees as well as not their problem.
lezlitaz why wood you escort your own kid out the building. That's stupid. Wen she comes over to the house youd just tell her not to return to the office. Why upset the office wirh unneeded drama. Ridiculous.
This is insane. Daughter steals 80k, and parents do nothing? I don't even know if this is real. I'd be in jail and have three black eyes if I had done this to my parents. *At the very least*, the parents should have fired her, scolded her big time, and wrote that money up as employee compensation - a bonus, so she has to pay taxes on it.
Well said Jimmy Bob... seriously. Once I read your post the truth of it hit me. This is exactly what a drug addict would do. Truly sad. My prayers to this family.
Or in her closet, she said she had mountains of clothes and lots of jewelry. Depending on the brand you could easily blow through 80k. A watch, some nice necklace sets with matching earrings, bracelet and of course rings. A few designer suits with high end silk blouses, cashmere sweaters and of course designer heels and hand bags. Without a doubt some went to either rent or a first class vacation. Then add dinners at luxe restaurants, buying rounds for friends at the bar. hair, nail, massages, makeup, perfume and other cosmetic treatments. 80k easy... And way way WAY easier to cover up than a drug habit. “ oh that’s old”, “ oh a friend gave/lent me that”, “ yeah I’m going to return that” etc.
OMG! I can't believe these parents are still coddling their daughter even after she steals from them. Like Dave said, you would fire an unrelated employee in-a-heart-beat and you should've done the same here. I'm not sure if I could have my own child criminally charged (would have to sleep on that one for a few days) but, at the very least, they would most certainly be FIRED!
The weak mealy mouthed parents who don't have the backbone to get her out of the building, are who enrages me. Also, - Just as they can't stand up to their daughter now, - they probably have a lifetime history of spoiling and indulging the thief.
not surprised......I have worked in family owned business's and the children of the owners always seem to be entitled. They think stealing from their parents isn't theft
+inkey2 I managed a1/2 million $$ business for my parents for 7 years. I didn't feel entitled to anything. The worst day of working for them was when I told them I had made a $1500 mistake. They pointed out that I learned from the mistake, and they could pay for it at $54 a month.
I managed a privately owned company for several years. The owner had one hard and fast rule: if an employee is caught stealing, that employee is immediately terminated. No second chances. Every employee knew the rule. To my knowledge, no one ever violated it.
I would never steal from my mom. I have every password social security number and info for my mom. I would never steal when i can simply ask her. This is nuts
Same. My mom gave us all her passwords and access to her accounts and such. Mostly for an emergency situation or if she passes. Not once did I think, let me take some money from her.
My cousin did a similar thing to my grandparents. Stole almost 60000 dollars as well. It was very sad and heart breaking. We almost pressed charges but it's easier to say then to do when it's your own family :( eventually he owned up and he's paying my grandparents back for everything and he's gotten his life together in many ways. But I can tell the shame is still there :/
I've seen managers keep embezzlers around because they are "irreplaceable", it's such a crock. Hire a bookkeeper and an office manager from a temp agency. They will find the missing amount faster than you will expect and you won't loose the respect of your other employees. I remember finding that a coworker used a company credit card to get an out of state payday loan. The boss was angry until he found out it was a favorite employee. I still look back on that manager as an incompetent bafoon.
This is when people excuse family for the same thing they would prosecute a stranger to the fullest extent of the law! SMH I would fire my momma in a heart beat if she did that .... and have her prosecuted! Wooooow
rain73ful Calling the Police creates massive drama and upsets the entire family. How many families handle this is to take the $ out of her inheritance.
Family or not, that girl should be thrown out on her rear. If the parents don't prosecute, but the state got wind of the embezzlement, you can bet your last buck they'll throw the book at her.
On top of firing her they should have a family intervention, this is very serious and she needs help if she is betraying her own family for clothes. If they don't she'll be hired somewhere else, she will do the same and the next person may not be so kind as to not press charges against her.
I divorced the wife after repeated warnings that her CC debt is sinking any future we may have. That spelled the end of it. Some persons have zero discipline.
Wow how can you possibly do that to your family. Both my parents own businesses. I don't work for them but would never consider doing this to anyone let alone family.
How can someone do that to an employer - how can you do that to their parents? Sad! I would have let her go. I agree with Dave too about getting the money back ! She doesn't know how lucky she was and she blew it!
Daniel Lim spanking is the root cause of violent tendencies and other general antisocial tendencies. These parents are probably just weak. Spanking is never the answer.
emarskineel I disagree completely because we are talking about spanking not beating. Spanking solely done for the purpose to correct and for the sake of the child is part of discipline. Beating a child with invested emotion behind the beating that's a problem and probably abuse. I would argue that it is the absence of discipline and the parent's themselves that causes more harm to children.
My father had the same situation where a brother stole money and equipment from his business. He fired him but did not prosecute. A year later he hired him again thinking my brother had learned his lesson and WRONG he stole from him again and even attempted to open his own business by stealing customers. My father’s consolation was that he would rather have his own children steal from him than a stranger.
If your kid steals 80k from you, she should be prosecuted and jailed. There's a really big lesson for her to learn and she has proven that she will *not* learn it if treated with kid-gloves.
“Something that should be prosecuted?” Seriously? My parents went after my sister over 10k.... they didn’t speak her name for 4 years and we weren’t allowed to speak her name without being scolded for saying her name under my parents roof. (They lost their original home, destroyed their credit, at 55 they had to buy a complete gut home and rebuild slowly... we had just finished a 15 year project home when she stole it.)
she needs to pay back every last cent...dig deeper there is probably more money gone that they dont know about, and the daughter is only as sick as the rest of the family...kids like this dont usually just drop out of no place...
In South Carolina if convicted, prison time depends upon the amount of money embezzled. The prison time is five years, or if $10,000 or more were taken, the prison sentence could be TEN OR MORE YEARS!
I think getting a jail or prison sentence would be part of the help the daughter needs. It's an opportunity for the young woman to face that her behavior has serious consequences, so she will actually want to change and actively seek help, whether she needs help for drug addiction or counselling to help her out of her need, pain, anger at her parents or who knows what.
Wow, she takes entitlement to a whole new level. This is worst than the teen who sued her parents for tuition and living expenses. At least that girl had a very slight ounce of decency by going through the court. But this grown woman just straight up robbed her folks. And then spent the money on clothes and shoes?!?! Sad.
I had to borrow $50 from my dad once and felt such incredible shame that I ended up feeling terribly ill. Stealing 80k would probably just outright kill me.💀
Mom I’m so sorry this happened. I think you have a heartbreaking situation here. Dismiss her from your company. She caused this to happen and none of this is your fault so the reason why I can’t understand why you keep her on. She’s a threat and a thief. Get her out now.
Gimme all your shoes and jewelry et al. Ebay here we come! Garage sale time, consignment store... work for free, clean our house, wash our car, 3 years later MAYBE we're good.
I'm guessing that mom and dad are getting up in years, and daughter has been doing pretty much all the work and basically considers it her business now. Of course that's just a guess, but I would have loved for Dave to ask the caller if that's what happened and see how she responded, LOL. Too bad we never hear a followup on most of these calls.
Think about how they raised her. She nvr got in trouble for anything as a child and went through life thinking she could get away with any and everything. It started at childhood and it started with them YEARS ago. This is their fault and they are STILL failing her. No consequences her whole life smh. This is what happens
I had a boss who did this. Looking back I see the red flags but didn't pick up on it at the time. He would voluntarily take on a lot of extra responsibility that I thought was odd at the time but it never occurred to me he was stealing money. I think I was just young and naïve and never would have thought normal nice people would do something like that. Now I understand that you should never trust someone regardless of who they are and should have protocols in place so it can't happen in the first place.
I feel bad for the parents. The daughter probably thinks that she is already entitled to that amount of money as some sort of inheritance. It hurts so much to be betrayed by someone who is their own flesh and blood.
An addict will easily steal a large amount from family. They do it because they know they are less likely to get in trouble. Shopping can be an addiction. It might be the best thing to happen to her to prosecute her. Odds are she has either stolen much more from them or she also owes a bunch of money to other people. Probably including a bunch of maxed out credit cards.
She stole $80,000 and her parents dont want to fire her. All their excuses made me mad. Parents dont understand that enabling is abuse and it destroys your child. Read the book boundaries and help your child. Stop treating her like she is 4 years old. When these parents pass away, this daughter will blow through their inheritance and end up homeless on the street. I've seen it enough times. Parents dont want to say no.... so they spoil the child till they die.
I’d first ask how they discovered the embezzlement. Such things don’t happen overnight. Next, as Dave says, find the missing money. Either she has valuable jewelry or gambling receipts. Check if the theft began after the husband appeared in her life. Do involve the police. They are often skilled at separating the spontaneous thief with no self control and the premeditated scammer. Lock her out, investigate, then lock her up.
I can't imagine having to fire my daughter. I hope and pray that I've raised her right, and that she'd never do such a thing. I can't comment on her parents, while I kind of feel they were lax in their job, I know families that have one "bad seed" out of multiple successful kids. I am confident that they have to come down on her hard for any chance of her having a successful future.
they had a hand in creating this monster, undoubtedly. if he's treating his psychopath daughter with these kid gloves that's a pattern and not a decision that emerged overnight. he treats her like an entitled queen and has likely never held her to account for anything. And mom here never stood up to her husband's foolish coddling of his little princess. not sorry for them.
She needs to go .... she needs to learn there are consequences to her actions. Her problems are ... that she is deceitful, underhand, conniving, absolutely immoral and criminally minded not even mentioning manipulative and selfish to the extreme. If she is allowed to stay in the business she is being 'told' that crime pays and that she can get away with it .... and probably getting even more greedy. Her husband may be involved too and enjoying the proceeds, who knows .... either that or she has lied to him too. How can he trust her, if that is the case. Horrible, horrible situation. I've been there too and send a 'Be strong because in the end, having the strength to deal with her effectively might be the one thing that saves the rest of her life from criminality' message to Mom and Dad.
If she stole from another company, she would be in prison!!!!
Debra Williams actually probably not. A large majority of employee fraud/embezzlement is never prosecuted. A lot of people don't want the negative publicity and they have insurance for such things.
Rightttttt!!!!!!!!!
ASAP

PUT HER IN JAIL! How dare she steal from her parents! The parents who have built this business with blood, sweat, and tears. The parents who gave her a job.
She stole $80000 and didn't get fired I think I see why she is like this in the first place.
Yup
I'm looking for a job. I wonder if they are hiring? 😏
This.
Tree meet apple
Yep my bet is she has been spoiled her whole life without accountability.👎
Now the employees know why they are not getting a raise.
Lizbetstyle lol what a line. nice
Good point..
No Christmas bonuses this year
and that's not fair for them. They've to see and walk past her I assume everyday. Her parents are enablers and it's not fair to other employees as well as not their problem.
Lol I owed my dad $450 dollars and I couldn't come to dinner without hearing about it.
😂😂
The only "lol" of your comment is the fact you owe your father 450 dollars.
Cory Jacobs “owed” past tense.
millertoyal you didn’t steal it
😂
she should have been escorted out of the building by security. it affects others who work there who know that the daughter was allowed to steal
lezlitaz why wood you escort your own kid out the building. That's stupid. Wen she comes over to the house youd just tell her not to return to the office. Why upset the office wirh unneeded drama. Ridiculous.
Silent minority
It's worse for them to allow her to keep working. It's a betrayal to your employees to NOT get her out of the office immediately.
Domminigan its Silent Majority. Check Nov 2016 Election Results. That was US!
If she steals from mom and dad like this, she will steal from customers, other employees, anyone.
She leaves immediately.
Some parents need to stop being their kids’ best friend.
This is insane. Daughter steals 80k, and parents do nothing? I don't even know if this is real. I'd be in jail and have three black eyes if I had done this to my parents. *At the very least*, the parents should have fired her, scolded her big time, and wrote that money up as employee compensation - a bonus, so she has to pay taxes on it.
i think that is what they need to do too. send a 1099 form and make her file taxes on it.
That is: pay taxes AFTER she is locked out.
Right!!!!!
How are you paying proper taxes if you don't miss 80k
What is the third eye?
"there's nothing extravagant that you can see!" Look up her nose.
Well said Jimmy Bob... seriously. Once I read your post the truth of it hit me. This is exactly what a drug addict would do. Truly sad. My prayers to this family.
I'm a drug addict but never stole.but if they found that much missing theres much more.
You are so on point with this comment
Or in her closet, she said she had mountains of clothes and lots of jewelry. Depending on the brand you could easily blow through 80k. A watch, some nice necklace sets with matching earrings, bracelet and of course rings. A few designer suits with high end silk blouses, cashmere sweaters and of course designer heels and hand bags. My first thought!!

I'm not sure if I could have my own child criminally charged (would have to sleep on that one for a few days) but, at the very least, they would most certainly be FIRED!
I stole from my dad once. Took $10. Mom found out and punished the hell out of me. I never stole again.
The weak mealy mouthed parents who don't have the backbone to get her out of the building, are who enrages me.
Also, - Just as they can't stand up to their daughter now, - they probably have a lifetime history of spoiling and indulging the thief.
Hi Mac!
LOL. Spoiling and indulging the thief.
This lady is really laidback about this. She must eat a whole bottle of valum everyday.
Or, she and her husband have LOADS of dough and can afford the loss.
No, it sounds more like she's still in shock and doesnt know what to do.
not surprised......I have worked in family owned business's and the children of the owners always seem to be entitled.
I love that Dave was firm in his honesty about the actions of both the daughter and the parents.
I managed a privately owned company for several years. The owner had one hard and fast rule: if an employee is caught stealing, that employee is immediately terminated. No second chances. Every employee knew the rule. To my knowledge, no one ever violated it.
It's not really the sort of rule that needs to be stated outright! Or at least, should not have to be.
Dave asked the most important question: “Where’s the money”? 😂
I would never steal from my mom. I have every password social security number and info for my mom. I would never steal when i can simply ask her. This is nuts
Same. My mom gave us all her passwords and access to her accounts and such. Mostly for an emergency situation or if she passes. Not once did I think, let me take some money from her.
u call it hemorrhaging, I call it stealing.

Wow, what a lack of character. To steal from your own parents.
MarineMike - daughter learned it from her spineless parents
I've seen managers keep embezzlers around because they are "irreplaceable", it's such a crock. Hire a bookkeeper and an office manager from a temp agency. I remember finding that a coworker used a company credit card to get an out of state payday loan. The boss was angry until he found out it was a favorite employee. The daughter needed to be kicked out a long time ago.
This is when people excuse family for the same thing they would prosecute a stranger to the fullest extent of the law! SMH I would fire my momma in a heart beat if she did that .... and have her prosecuted! Wooooow
Me too! That's ridiculous. They should call the police, teach her a lesson!
mzgemini0006 thats harsh. She powdered your bottom once upon a time.
Silent Majority No longer matters. She gets what she deserves..regardless of who she was
rain73ful Calling the Police creates massive drama and upsets the entire family. How many families handle this is to take the $ out of her inheritance.
mzgemini0006 girl I would press charges and later drop it just to teach them a lesson
And the mother just admitted her daughter is a newlywed. Bet you dollars to doughnuts, mom and dad paid for the wedding!
They should have filed criminal charges and have her go to jail. They are enablers.
I can't believe someone keeps a thief in the business!!
Wow how can you possibly do that to your family. Both my parents own businesses. I don't work for them but would never consider doing this to anyone let alone family.
Her thief daughter must be a Bernie Sanders supporter :)
What Dave Ramsey said around 5:05-5:11 was common sense & 100% correct.
If that was me I would press charges right away. Since she thinks it's ok to steal from her own parents. She shouldn't mind doing prison time.
Weakness in leadership.
I would have sent my son to jail there is clearly no consequences for her actions
I'd like to hear a followup to this. Also how did the child get so narcissistic?
*This is the most ridiculous call I think I’ve ever heard on this show. I have no words. As Dave would say, the inmates are running the asylum*
How can someone do that to an employer - how can you do that to their parents? Sad! I would have let her go. I agree with Dave too about getting the money back ! She doesn't know how lucky she was and she blew it!
The result of a "time out", "you are grounded" culture.
Daniel Lim if you need to spank your child, you're just compensating for weak parenting
Dan L lol she just dumb
@Dan L you are an absolute idiot of the stupidest kind.
My father had the same situation where a brother stole money and equipment from his business. He fired him but did not prosecute.
A year later he hired him again thinking my brother had learned his lesson and WRONG he stole from him again and even attempted to open his own business by stealing customers.

Omg this must b so sad. This Fam will never b the same. I agree with Dave. She needs TO GO! how can u steal from ur patents? smh!
Part of the agreement should be she sells everything she bought to start repaying the money.
He's so right. This is really at its core a leadership issue.
My cousin once fired me for not being able to stay awake from overnight shift to make it to my 2nd job. These people are crazy.
If your kid steals 80k from you, she should be prosecuted and jailed. There's a really big lesson for her to learn and she has proven that she will *not* learn it if treated with kid-gloves.
“Something that should be prosecuted?” Seriously? It's an opportunity for the young woman to face that her behavior has serious consequences, so she will actually want to change and actively seek help, whether she needs help for drug addiction or counselling to help her out of her need, pain, anger at her parents or who knows what.
Poor parenting. Dad is weak.
"I would have been all up in her business!" 😂
Bet this caller wasn’t planning to get torn apart this bad. 😂
And they haven't pressed charges?!!!
This woman takes no responsibility at all sounds like they allowed this.
Gimme all your shoes and jewelry et al. Ebay here we come! Garage sale time, consignment store... work for free, clean our house, wash our car, 3 years later MAYBE we're good.
Make sure she’s ousted from your will she gets nothing
Or at the very least, 80k less than the others.
If I would embezzle any money from my dad he would turn me into a eunuch.
Such disrespect from her daughter.
Think about how they raised her. She nvr got in trouble for anything as a child and went through life thinking she could get away with any and everything. It started at childhood and it started with them YEARS ago. This is their fault and they are STILL failing her. No consequences her whole life smh. This is what happens
Totally agree!!
You do not "need" a thief, even if she is your blood. She treated you like a stranger, return the favor and have her arrested.
good reason not to do business with family.
So she is doing fine? Really? I would be out of my mind with anger with my daughter. She would NOT be working for my business. Period.
She’s been coddled by daddy all her life and will not change because he allows the theft of $80,000 to stand. Unbelievable.
Terrible parenting to not have consequences for this!
Mom soubds like a fool letting her stay there. Absolutely absurd!!!😮
Bless her new husband’s heart!!!
You need her ?like you need the chickenpox.DRUGS!!
U look scary
I feel bad for the parents. The daughter probably thinks that she is already entitled to that amount of money as some sort of inheritance. It hurts so much to be betrayed by someone who is their own flesh and blood.
She needs a wake up call. Fired and put in jail...if she gets another job she might try it again. Her parents are full of excuses.
Drug habit is a real possibility. I would ask her directly about that.
I have anxiety! I have been robbed before and this just literally pisses me completely off!
my grandmother used to always tell me, if you're capable of stealing from me then you're capable of killing me
An addict will easily steal a large amount from family. They do it because they know they are less likely to get in trouble.
Shopping can be an addiction.
It might be the best thing to happen to her to prosecute her.
Odds are she has either stolen much more from them or she also owes a bunch of money to other people. Probably including a bunch of maxed out credit cards.
A thief is a thief , no matter who !!!!
I'm surprised to hear him say he wouldn't prosecute. It doesn't seem aligned with "loving them well."
+Lisa Van Gemert It's realistic. He put himself in her shoes. How easy would it be to prosecute your child and send them to prison?
She stole $80,000 and her parents dont want to fire her. All their excuses made me mad. Parents dont understand that enabling is abuse and it destroys your child. Read the book boundaries and help your child. Stop treating her like she is 4 years old. When these parents pass away, this daughter will blow through their inheritance and end up homeless on the street. I've seen it enough times. Parents dont want to say no.... so they spoil the child till they die.
@Dave Ramsey YOU'RE totally wrong, I'd be prosecuting to the fullest extent WHAT if it was your kids doing it to you
Call the cops, arrest her, take her to court, then sue her for $80K.
The sound is too low on many of these.
Yes. That was ridiculous to keep her in the building. 🙅♀️
Great advice from Uncle Dave. 10 years on, I wonder what's happened.
Of all the many Dave Ramsey videos I've seen, this is the most shocking one I've watched yet.
they had a hand in creating this monster, undoubtedly. if he's treating his psychopath daughter with these kid gloves that's a pattern and not a decision that emerged overnight. he treats her like an entitled queen and has likely never held her to account for anything.
I watch these videos to feel better about myself
WoW GREAT advice from Mr. Ramsey!
Would any other company keep her until they found someone else?
Some people are dumb?
I like his answer!
DON'T go into business with family. That's rule #1 if you want to be happy.
Daughter just has a simple case of "Entitlement"
Just love Dave's outlook of making her accountable
That daughter needs to be in jail. If it was anyone else, they would be fired and in jail.
