In Latinamerica you can say "Negro" in a good way , cuba , colombia , Venezuela, etc. use it , "Mi negro" , "Mi negrita" and that kind of things , but it is not racism.
Well, it is not always and everywhere, just like the word "indio." Some people may try to use it with me as a term of endearment (I am Nicaraguan), but it always carries some sort of generalized stereotypes with it that I dread and avoid, so, I don't allow people to use it with me.
Nathon. If they told me Indio. I would be happy. Pure blood of my ancestors. if someone is trying to get u mad by these types of words. Just take them as a compliment. Soon or later they will stop.

as a Latina, I've heard a handful of Latinos use the N word around their black friends and no one cares and no one's bothered by it. I feel like it comes down to who you associate with and who you're around and the context of it? But I'd also like to say, as many Latinos in the comments are saying, in Spanish the word "Negro" means Black, whether that be a person or the colour itself. It's not an offensive term, it's just black. It's can even be an endearing nickname for darker skinned people, we call them Nergo/a or Negrito/a :)
Im puerto rican and black and i say the word around my freinds and some family just because thats where i grew up around my dad and his freinds say it and most of my freinds are black and they do not care so thats where i stand
You know that whole 600 year time period when White Europeans were buying and selling Black Africans as chattel? And remember how that whole system was enforced by a violent system of repression whereby Black slaves who did not act the way the White folks wanted them to were beaten and murdered? Oh, and remember that time after slavery when Black people were locked in a system called Jim Crow that used a similar fear of violence and repression to keep Black people in “their place?” Well, in the midst of all that shit, there was a word invented by White people as a pejorative for Black folks. And it was used just about every time a Black person was whipped, chained, beaten, insulted, spat upon, raped, lynched, or otherwise humiliated and mistreated by White folks. Thus, I really don’t care how much White folks want to use that word. I don’t care how unfair you think it is that someone else gets to use it when we don’t. Our people gave up the privilege to use that word the moment we invented it as a tool of oppression.
"Negro" literally means black, we don't have an N word in spanish. It's very common to say negro in spanish as a friendly nickname, if the person doesn't get offended of course. But I've seen some non hispanic people thinking that Negro is literally the N word in spanish like hell no, is the colour, black.
@@otz_matt Yeah Moreno means Brunette, luckily we don't have a spanish n word so no one gets THAT offended. Latin is NOT a color. As a white latina (from Brasil), I feel like when you say that latin people can say the N-word, you are allowing a lot of white and asian people to say it too. Brazil is a big example of how latin is not a race. There are literally EVERY RACES in here and we are all latinos, so are you really sure latin people can say it?
Depends on the history of your country. In Puerto Rico we had black slaves and the percentage of people that have African dna is really high. Our people went through that struggle. I don't know about other countries though.

MrOktoberfest 00 Language evolves in different ways depending on history and culture. In the US the N-word evolved to have an offensive meaning towards African Americans. In Latin America there was also slavery but in my opinion it wasn't as bad as it was in the states in most places. In the US racism continued after slavery with segregation and lynching making the word much more hurtful. You can't just diss on the way a culture uses a word without understanding that word's roots and history.
WhatTheHeck Don't you dare say that America doesn't deal with "real racism" while people of African descent (like myself) are still being publicly murdered by our government on a daily basis, Natives are being pushed further out of their homelands and murdered as well (along with being afforded much less opportunities to succeed educationally and financially based on the color of our skin.
No existe la raza de “Latinos” simplemente es una tierra con millones de personas y todos nos tratamos como tal. Aquí no se discrimina por color de piel la mayoría de veces, aquí se discrimina por tu posición socioeconómica y eso sigue siendo triste

Most Mexicans have some African roots as more Africans slaves were sent to Mexico than in the US during the slave trade. That is why many Mexicans are very brown and called morenos. @@archdh4767 Even if what you said is true, in the context of America I don't think the N word was ever used as a derogatory term against Mexicans and generally speaking when someone refers to a black person they are probably not referring to Mexicans. They are more likely referring to either an African American, Afro Caribbean (e.g. Jamaican, Haitian etc) or someone directly from the continent of Africa. That's why it's debatable as to whether or not Mexicans should get a pass to use to the N word, even if some of them have distant African roots dating back to slavery days.
@@dresdnerpetit1792 Very true, actually during the slave trade more African slaves were taken to Brazil than anywhere else in the world and Brazil was also the last country to abolish slavery. Rachel Rust well it’s a not a matter of can you say the n word. Its a matter of should you say the n word. And in this case I’d say she shouldn’t. I’m black and I don’t even particularly like to use the n word. For me no one should. However I cannot make everyone stop saying it so, I think that people should not say the n word if they have never been oppressed by specifically the n word. The same rule goes for any other powerful slur.
Fabulous Is Here honestly though, that’s best answer to the question “ why can’t I say it if it?” I think The only reason people are wondering whether or not it’s okay is because Latinos are oppressed too and grow up with the culture. But are never oppressed with that word.
Fabulous Is Here andddd the reason why it’s so bad for white people to say it, is because they were the oppressors. And Latinos are just given a face if they say it because they never meant it as an offense before
Xochitl Nunez I agree and in term of Hispanics a lot of them say that they are used to this word. Taking this into consideration I believe that they should adapt and learn to not say it in an American setting, or at least watch who they say it around. Some black people, including me, feel really threatened when the n word is used around them.
Tbh im a latino and when i was in school everyone in my school was white, so everyone thought i could say the n word, but i still never said it because it just feels wrong

adan Cruz That's a little different though. In Latin American culture, they give people nicknames that describe their characteristics in an affectionate way. The n word was used to berate people of a brown to dark brown skin complexion from Africa; the slaves of the Americas. For a black person to call ANOTHER black person the n word is like saying hey my BROTHER. My blood. My equal. Someone who does not look like your stereotypical black (darker skin with black features) saying the n word loses its meaning of affection and in turns back to its original meaning. Idk why people can't seem to understand that. It's not rocket science. Just cause you can say something, doesn't mean you should

What I notice most people don't mention is that negro means literally black (un lápiz negro: a black pencil). So when you refer to someone as "negro" you're actually saying "black". Still, it can be offensive depending in the tone of the person who says it. In the other hand it amazes me how americans like to label people, even if they're white, as the dude in the video.

@@pabloperrier True, the cultural backgrounds are indeed different. That's why Anglo Americans feel much closer culturally to African Americans than they do to Latinos whom they always view as foreigners regardless of the time spent in the USA. About discrimination, you must mean predominantly European or Mestizo Latinos since Afro Latinos, AKA black Latinos, suffer racial discrimination in the USA just as African Americans do. For example, during Jim Crow, they were obligated to undergo the same segregation. I had an Afro Latino in-law family member who underwent that treatment when having on leave from the army and temporarily residing in Miami. One very important difference in the discrimination, unfortunately, is that very often Afro Latinos have to endure the discrimination from certain African American racists as well.
I don't use the N word in English and we don't really have that word in Spanish because being called Negro doesn't have the negative meaning it has in English. It just means black. Being called black in Spanish it not a big deal. Same with fat or gordita or gordito. No hate behind it.

Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about the word. I don’t have any African American blood in me that that I know of but I come from a middle eastern culture but my skin is white so I stay away from the word. A vast majority of my African American and Latino friends call me by that. (and they tell me they don’t mind if I used it) I do take it as a form of friendship or endearment but I would never say it back just because of the amount of respect I have for their culture and the struggle that them as well as their ancestors went through.
This is stupid. In Spanish, we have nicknames for one another and one is Negro. I'm from Argentina, I've got a friend who is bit on the darker side his nickname is Negro and there is no malicious towards it. Negro is a very common term in the Spanish speaking world. Nigga is just a word that is in the lexicon of the American-English. Plain and simple.

It’s very interesting that the “N Word” is the only word that I know of that has a tragic historical negative connotation, connected to it. But it can be justified based on the context it’s used in among the many cultures of today. Like I don’t see any Hispanic, Jewish or Asian racial slurs used as a term of endearment in today’s culture, like why is it just Black people? We make excuses so we can continue to perpetuate a disgusting word that was used to lynch and tear down a whole group of people.

I agree with you on a certian level, but we also have to keep in mind that for many people the word has transformed and its become symbolic of conquering something that once at a hold. We as a community have to decide if the word can't be transformed at all or that it fundamentally has based on context. If it didn't, we should be just as offended when its said by anyone. I prefer not to be called it at all, however if the person isn't trying to harm me with it and uses it in its transformative meaning, I'm not offended.

Well, it is not always and everywhere, just like the word "indio." Some people may try to use it with me as a term of endearment (I am Nicaraguan), but it always carries some sort of generalized stereotypes with it that I dread and avoid, so, I don't allow people to use it with me.

You know that whole 600 year time period when White Europeans were buying and selling Black Africans as chattel?
And remember how that whole system was enforced by a violent system of repression whereby Black slaves who did not act the way the White folks wanted them to were beaten and murdered?
Oh, and remember that time after slavery when Black people were locked in a system called Jim Crow that used a similar fear of violence and repression to keep Black people in “their place?”
Well, in the midst of all that shit, there was a word invented by White people as a pejorative for Black folks.

Ok? look that "N word" doesn't mean anything bad, its just bad when u think its something bad or it's something bad to be that. ok. Thats it.

Also “fat people” are called “gordito/gordita” which is also a form of endearment, thin people are called “flaco/flaca”.

Most Mexicans have some African roots as more Africans slaves were sent to Mexico than in the US during the slave trade. That is why many Mexicans are very brown and called morenos. Our 2nd president Vicente Guerrero was African, our first free city was gained trough Yanga an African Slave that harassed the Spanish to the point that they gave him freedom. Whether we are allowed to say the N-word is technical, yes, but I won't use it.
In South America black people were slaves too and we have ancestors from Africa too
@@archdh4767 Even if what you said is true, in the context of America I don't think the N word was ever used as a derogatory term against Mexicans and generally speaking when someone refers to a black person they are probably not referring to Mexicans.
Be a latino is because we born in latinoamerica is nothing to do with race
Latino isn’t a race, if they aren’t black or mixed with black, then no. It’s not hard.
@thatonekidYT no its not
I agree with the girl with glasses. You don’t need to use the word if you have never been oppressed by it.
Fabulous Is Here true. But I have Mexican friends who have never been oppressed or bared or struggled with racism their whole life. No one in their family even experienced racism. Can they say it? Even though Mexicans and Latinos as a whole have experienced racism, but not her in particular?
I get it, some people are unknowing of the offensiveness of the n word. But once you know and remember there is no excuse. Some black people, including me, feel really threatened when the n word is used around them.
Tbh im a latino and when i was in school everyone in my school was white, so everyone thought i could say the n word, but i still never said it because it just feels wrong

The Cyberninja my nigga how is that sad?
adan Cruz were freaks were a disgusting mess
adan Cruz That's a little different though. Just cause you can say something, doesn't mean you should
Just cuz you come from a black community or lived near blacks doesn’t change the fact that your not black if it didn’t effect your history don’t say it at all!

“I no black papi I Dominican”
What I notice most people don't mention is that negro means literally black (un lápiz negro: a black pencil). So when you refer to someone as "negro" you're actually saying "black". Still, it can be offensive depending in the tone of the person who says it. In the other hand it amazes me how americans like to label people, even if they're white, as the dude in the video.
I think the "n-word" in question is "nigga." Not the spanish word for "black." Yes, there are spanish words like "la negrita" for women and so on, so I do see your point. But in the end, I'm sure they're only referring to the word "nigga."
Notice how they choose a Latino who agrees with their nonsense in order to try to give their idiocies some legitimacy. LOL!

True, the cultural backgrounds are indeed different.

This is stupid. In Spanish, we have nicknames for one another and one is Negro. Nigga is just a word that is in the lexicon of the American-English.

No es algo que sea estúpido, como latino te digo que no es lo mismo para nuestra cultura latina decir negro que para la cultura estadounidense decir nigga. La comunidad negra estadounidense aun tienen presente todo el sufrimiento de su raza en el pasado en manos de los bancos, hubo mucha segregación racial. odio y desprecios por parte de las personas blancas, incluso había sitios, escuelas, transporte y zonas exclusivas para blancos y otras exclusivos para negros,y hasta el día de hoy el racismo es un problema en USA.
