    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
The Semiconductor crisis has been one of the most critical economic threats looming over the world economy for 1 year now! This crisis has been so bad that Apple lost 6 billion dollars in revenue, Maruti had to cut down 60% of their production, Mahindra had to cut down 20 of its its production, Hp has increased its printer prices by 20% and the auto industry itself has already lost 100 billion dollars in Revenue due to Chip shortages.

Semiconductor R&D is not child's play, it takes the best of the brains and expensive labs just to train students to become productive in the field. The state of VLSi labs in the country and the outdated AICTE curriculum doesn't help either. It is not like IT where you need just a laptop and a 3 month training to make someone productive. So saying that skilled 5-6 million engineers in the Semiconductor domain will spring up in such a short duration is nothing but a fantasy. Also the market doesn't need that many engineers in that domain. Just 40-50k really talented engineers will be more than enough to meet our demands. Though it would take an investment of 10-20k dollars per person to realize that. It's not going to be easy. IIT Mumbai has the only researchable fab center in the country and the tech they use belongs to early 1990's. Just upgrading that to a 28nm process will take 500mn dollars. This is the tech being used by most of the car companies. With that we would be able to produce only 100-150 engineers in a year. I don't see semiconductor fabs coming to India anytime soon. The best we can do is to manufacture PCB's which the IC's imported from US , Korea and Japan. Even China struggles bigtime when it comes to semiconductor fabrication. SMIC the chinese semiconductor giant produces chips with 28 nm fab process and cater to only domestic demands for credit cards and cars. Chinese have invested roughly 80BN dollars in last 10 years to progress in the domain and that too hasn't been enough.

      This time it's different
ISMC signed MoU to set-up 3 Billion worth Semi Conductor manufacturing plant near Mysuru
      Other than this
Tata is looking for 300 million investment to make its own chips for Tata motors and other industries
TSMC Vedanta formed JV to manufacture chips in India Vedanta will invest 20 Billion over next 20 years
Intel is also looking to open a fabrication unit
India is now focusing on Semiconductor, Solar Modules manufacturing, Green Hydrogen production, Automobiles manufacturing especially EV and renewable ones and Drones which has potential to make India a superpower
If we can provide 10 Billion as incentive we can easily provide Industry grade water required for Semiconductor manufacturing
And coming to Powercuts previous attempt was made in 2015 where India a gaint elephant which just started to make moves and now we are seeing the impact

@Sai Praneeth Mullapudi -- Signing MoUs is one thing, executing them is whole another ball-game.
HSMC had signed multiple MoUs and had multiple meetings with AMD and GloFo for starting chip manufacturing in India, all the way back in early 2014.
Nothing happened, they chickened out as investment and setting up chip manufacturing is an unbelievably capital intensive undertaking, and you have to wait literal year to even come close to breaking even. Similar to setting up a nuclear reactor for power generation.
China has been able to undertake chip manufacturing becasue they can just print money and be completely unaccountable to anyone regarding anything. Trying doing that in India, or any other country.

      @@BlackMambo5 it will be executed
Construction of first Semiconductor Manufacturing plant is highly likely to be started by this year end
India of 2022 is entirely different from India of 2014 interms of everything Iam not making a political statement there are some valid reasons
-Incentive outlay is huge this time
-Uninterrupted power can be provided today easily which was not that possible in 2014
-Better infrastructure by the time construction of plants get finished dedicated freight corridors and expressways will be finished (Since the location of plant is near Mysuru I think Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore DFC will be fast tracked)
--***This time India is digitalized heavily and the demand for electronic products is growing at a very rapid pace covid even accelerated this demand in global scale which led to shortage of semiconductors...Just India's demand for semiconductors is likely to cross 100 Billion in near future... So to meet demand Semiconductor manufacturing will be done in India mark my words
-Today the global scenario is very different from that of 2014
-The issues in Supply Chain management is real Covid exposed everything and showed how dangerous it would be to depend on one country for supplies even the tensions between Taiwan and China is leading many governments of countries to aggressively push to manufacture semiconductors in their own country
-On record level there has never been such a push for becoming self reliant
-Even the ease of doing business and ease of starting business rank in 2022 is better than 2014
-This time Government is ready to give incentives in Capital Expenditure of the company
So this time it will be implemented for sure

Building a Fab requires an Indian company who knows business tech to run a semiconductor business.
    Now the actual issue,
    1. TSMC only can manufacture 5nm chips
    2. Samsung will start this year for 5nm chips
    3. Intel will take another 2 years to reach the 5nm chips.
India will take atleast 7 years to reach 5 nm chips.

Some amazing insights into the whole semi conductor circus that is going on around the world. A must watch video for those who are into the electronics / IT / Sharemarket etc. Keep bringing in more such topics. Thanks a lot.
Another major take away is the fact that, with Mr Modi at the helm of this great country, the major stake holder who were holding the world to ransom on the semiconductor front are now facing the heat with his policies and development strategies. With a whole nice bunch of industrialists at the helm of the affairs of some greatly capable manufacturing houses in India, China and other players in the market know very well that they are in for a hard time in future and that again is the major reason why the country is facing so much of issues on the political front.
Though i dont want to bring politics into this, but cannot help say that it is these disgruntled parties elsewhere in the world who are playing this political game against the country and its present govt, through some good for nothing third parties who are members of the various political parties in this country.
God bless the present govt and all those who are handling the matters in the right manner.

The semiconductor industry is quite resource intensive. I guess that the success of the scheme ultimately depends if the government is able to provide adequate land and pure water(water with no impurities whatsoever), this may need India to invest in desalination to prevent affecting both our water tables and to get the purity of water required.
Overall, being unable to provide the above two seems to be the biggest reason for failure.
This time the government is going to work with states to provide the required support. It seems even Taiwan, and the Quad are going to work with India, though I am not sure how far Taiwan will go to help India, since being a dominant player in semiconductor industry is thr islands main USP

There is no doubt that the human resource factor is very high in our country. We have nothing but gratitude to the Governments led by INC to have set up the finishing / engineering schools like the IITs, NITs, IIMs, and research facilities in many fields to enable countries like the USA to draw on our talent. Many private institutions were also subsidized to scale up their education. All this is among the factors which have now enabled us to enter into multinational agreements.

Was on a 2 year stint from India to Germany- came back to Bombay & built up the Power Electronics Engineering Project Design & Engineering Group in Siemens India corporate office in Bombay with a team of IIT grads & other Engineering grads & Draughtsman/ CAD designers - team of about 30. Was in Germany/Spain/ Austria etc & Taiwan & practically all of the Indian States in India- & can say without doubt that Indian Engineers are about the best in the world- easily switch to associated Technologies as required- don’t have super egos . This is a good video. But let us consider what is not covered in the video. This is not the first time India considering Semi Conductors. We tried it before and failed. Last time it was as simple as fire which disrupted our plans (I don't know, but won't write off sabotage). India couldn't recover from that.
    1. The cost of building a Semi Conductors production is unbelievable. Each EUV Lithography machine cost around 150 million dollars. And ASML's new High NA machine is much costlier.
    2. Semi Conductors production is not known for its water efficiency. To create an IC chip you require 2,200 gallons of water. A large production facility (Fab) will use up around 4.8 million gallons per day. And I'm not talking about sea water.
    3. Pollution is another by-product of Semi Conductors production. We know the situation in Delhi already. This will worsen the air quality in all of India. And if you consider the cost associated with it like health and climate change it becomes mind boggling.
If you do the real cost-benefit analysis, Semi Conductors manufacturing is a bad idea.
I only brushed up on important points.

Remittances by NRIs should be our main source of income ! This is the MAIN reason why Kerala is the most developed state of India, thanks to NRIs living in gulf and Canada, US, UK, etc
Semiconductor industry will make our entire country a drought ridden state like Tamil Nadu where the majority of people have to stand in long queues to just get a bucket of water !
🖕 Semiconductors ! This government will make the whole country broke and then inflation will hit through the roof !
Indian government should stop dreaming unachievable dreams and should start focusing on our strengths ! There is no future where India can be a developed country on its own might ! I was a senior regional business manager in the semiconductor and electronic industry. I worked for a U.S. company based here in Singapore.
I used to travel throughout Asia visiting companies in this industry. India is way behind countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and China in the semiconductor industry.
In 1986, Singapore become the second country to enter the semiconductor foundry business. The Singapore goverment invested hundred of millions dollars in this company, Chartered Semiconductor. But eventually this was sold to Global Foundries which is owned by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company. Global Foundries also acquired AMD and IBM foundries.
The global foundry industry is dominated by companies such as TSMC, Samsung, UMC, Global Foundries and SMIC. SMIC, a Chinese company is the fifth largest foundry company.
For India to enter this industry, the initial investments will run into billions with no guarantee of success. Even Singapore which entered this industry back in 1986, it currently accounts for only 11% of the world's chips. But Singapore accounts for 20% of the world's production of semiconductor equipment. This is an area where Singapore has been successful.

GloFo was spun off from AMD. You are also only considering primary CPU and GPU chip fabs and not those that fabricate chips for IoT devices, audio, wifi, memory, consumer appliances, etc. No one is putting a Ryzen 5800 in their Smart Microwave to cook dishes fast! I'm not disagreeing with you, but there are a lot of other fabs which service completely different markets and customers which you missed out on.
