    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
    In march 2022, Nitin Gadkari sir surprised the entire nation as he arrived at the parliament in a hydrogen powered car!! And as soon as this happened, we all saw how viral this went on twitter!! and guess what this was not just gimmick but a clear indication to the people of India that Hydrogen fuel is the future!! Because its not just the govt, Mr. Mukesh Ambani is boldly investing into both blue and green hydrogen, Adani group is said to invest *$70 bn into renewable energy and aims to produce the cheapest hydrogen on earth and the Tata’s are already looking to build hydrogen buses for India!*
    So the question is,
    What is this Green hydrogen all about?
    How is it going to play out in comparison to the lithium ion batteries?
    and most importantly, as investors, what are the factors and challenges that you need to consider before investing into Green hydrogen related stocks!!

    During my college years, my final year project was running vehicle engine on combined fuel of hydrogen and petrol. It was in 2007, so no companies were interested in this idea due to cost issues. Good to see that hydrogen production costs are coming down. More applications of hydrogen will be promoted in near future.

      Q) why there is gas stations for hydrogen rather than a pre filled gas tank that can be inserted in car? (The gas tank which is setup in various location in a city does not work on full capacity as there is extremely less number of car that are filled in night (so the gas station has less than half productivity which increase the amount the consumer has to pay), so instead of this if we had a gas plant in every city which can fill insertable gas tank (which can be inserted in vehicles)and the insertable tank was made available to various parts of cities then it may reduce cost ]- but as we know this is not right, but why?

    Being a chemcial engineer workig in an hydrogen unit in oil & gas refinery i can say that, this video has covered almost everything one needs to know about hydrogen industry, excellent presention and kudos to you guys for deep research and explaining this complex topic in an laymen terms , just i would like to add some points
    1. In chemical plants hydrogen requirement is 24×7, now if i am producung my electricity from solar, for the night i need alternate electricity source or energy storing device which can increase CAPEX cost higher making grern hydrogen ineffective currently in particular case
    2. For the immediate situation IOCL has started blending of green hydrogen with Natural gas, not only this would act as better fuel but will have lower emissions value and on economic front lower import bill to.
    3. Reliance is currently investing heavily on solar cell manufacturing, battery and elecrrolyzer manufacturing , there recent acquisition of UK based company with deep research in Na- ion battery will make a big difference in the manufacturing cost of green hydrogen when done at a scale.
    So i am ambitious for the future of green hydrogen , it has certain bottlenecks but with the technological advancement and scale of economy the said 1$/kg hydrogen is possible.

    • @logohub1234
      @logohub1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I watched a video about hydrogen on real engineering channel. Here he didn't show anything related to how hydrogen can be transferred by a Transport system and how it can be stored like petrol? The initial price of A hydrogen station is 400 times that of a petrol station. There are many issues like the price of a base hydrogen car is much higher than petrol and ev. So hydrogen can be used for commercial vehicles like trucks, buses and planes in future India is still miles away from this because here significant people are still using wood and gas is new for them .

      @Amrit Waiba the thing a lot of people dont realise is that a country's development doesnt so much depend on its politicians or beaurocrats but on its Industries. If u look at the corruption perception Index India, China & South Korea have close rankings.
      If u r not convinced yet then look the top American politicians and congressmen, they r no better than Indian Politicians. The reason US, China & South Korea are so developed because they entered the digital & electronics market in the early 80s & have since benefitted from 1st & 2nd industrial revolution.
      India is late in the game but as our Industries diversify their portfolio into Digital & Electronics Tech, India will also sooner or later become an advanced economy.

    India's weakest link has been energy security. This open risk was not plugged for the last 70 years. This resulted in the indian populace in dire poverty. Its time to uplift the masses and improve the human development index. Nitin Gadkari is a visionary statesman who is making the right moves. The investment in research and development in this area has to speed up to get it to the level of maturity. Research and Development center for next age technologies in India has to happen through a consortium of top Indian companies working together to create global standards with patenting. This will help it in the long run. Operational efficiency of India has been good, however investment in research and development is below global benchmarks.

    Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are good in terms of time it takes for refueling the vehicles but are not at all energy efficient with respect to EV as EV's are around 80% energy efficient where as HFCV are 40-45% efficient and if we look closely the whole process of electrolysis is acting as a middle mam as we could directly use the renewable energy for transports via EV's ........ I think the future could be a hybrid vehicle where we can use both a hydrogen fuel cell as well as a lithium ion battery which could not even reduce refueling time but also will be cost efficient. such that if a person has time to refuel he can choose to charge it with electric charger at a low cost and save up some money where as if a person is in a hurry he can refuel his vehicle with hydrogen and save up some time.

    • @mesmeleon3465

    • @nilrocks
      @nilrocks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The comparison is not really apple-to-apple. it is clear that consumer level car is going to be completely EV with no doubt. But there is a large space where energy needs and requirements are completely different where batteries just cannt solve the problem, e.g., large commercial fleet, industrial needs etc.

    • @krishnaprasad2006

      but what i was thinking is that, through the process of electrolysis water is splitted in to both oxygen and hydrogen, the resultend oxygen can be also used as a commercialy like selling oxygens in to end users like hospitals and patients, so that the cost of hydrogen fuel can also be reduced. but i hope they may have already considered this before making an estimation about the cost and price of green hydrogen fuel

    I did some research on Hydrogen for my investment, Expect to read this story repeatedly over the next decade:
    1) Politicians seduced by H2 Fuel Cell technology;
    2) Price signals suppressed throughout the value chain - subsidised hydrogen via subsidised distribution to subsidised vehicles;
    3) Physics and Economics spoil the party.
    The best case H2 is worse than the worst case battery storage in terms of both cost and efficiency. Also battery cost is declining rapidly while H2 cost is more than hydro carbon fuels. Cost decline in H2 happens only on paper. Even lead acid battery storage is better than hydrogen storage let alone Li-on battery. H2 cost savings we see in the news are carefully selected half-truths. They say it takes 5 minutes to refill hydrogen fuel cells but they won’t say, how long it takes to produce, compress & transport H2. Those cost & time must be accounted somewhere in the value chain and they are enormous!
    Unfortunately many nations are investing in H2 heavily, which is going to be waste of Taxpayer’s money. Even Reliance is going to invest heavily in Hydrogen. Not sure if there are any engineers with economic sense. Scientists are different from Engineers; Engineers are different from Manufacturers; Manufacturers are different from Raw material producers; and Businessmen are different from all of them. For any product or service to reach masses, it must make sense for all of these players. But unfortunately here politicians & businessmen are talking to scientists and announce it to public to please the voters & shareholders.
    We must remember, H2 is NOT an energy SOURCE but an energy storage mechanism. H2 is the most abundant naturally occurring material in the universe BUT NOT on EARTH. It must be extracted either from Methane(CH4) or Water(H2O). Extracting H2 from Methane is definitely economical but Methane is again hydrocarbon and it warms the atmosphere 86 times more than carbon dioxide. So we would be better off with petroleum & Coal than Methane based H2.
    To extract H2 from water, Electrolysis is needed which is an extremely energy intensive & inefficient process. To extract H2 from water, we need to spend 3 times more energy. If we want to store 1 KiloWatt energy in Hydrogen fuel cell, we need to spend 3 Kilowatt energy. Are we living in any kind of energy abundance situation, to waste 2 Kilowatt for every 1 Kilowatt of usable energy?. Green Hydrogen is definitely green, I mean there is no carbon by product there. But we're wasting 70% of energy produced by Solar & Wind while storing it in H2 fuel cell.
    Also H2 is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. It is the lightest gas and is explosive in air at concentrations greater than about 4%. In contact with chlorine, oxygen, or other oxidizers, hydrogen is flammable and explosive and burns with a nearly invisible flame. Because H2 is the lightest gas, it needs huge physical space to store though the mass is super low. To handle this, it has to be compressed or liquified in a pressure chamber. How’re we going to transport this kind of material from production facility to all over the refill station?. H2 Pipelines across the continent, seriously?. Who is going pay for such a massive and hazardous infrastructure?.
    Green H2 makes sense, only when we have energy abundance and don't know what to do with such excessive energy.
    If you're not convinced, No less than Elon Musk says, H2 is dumb idea. Nuclear is by far the most reliable and safe energy source followed by Solar & Wind + Battery storage.

    • @ajaivaidyanathan5880
      @ajaivaidyanathan5880 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      H2 may not be an effective replacement of Petrol and diesel, but it can be a replacement for coal and natural gas in Indian industries.

    • @fwefhwe4232
      @fwefhwe4232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I did same calculations and drive an ebike in bangalore.
      But when India will have lots of solar (in 2025), then the efficiency wont matter as the electricity prices will drop to 0 (or even negative).
      Any usage of that excess solar is GOOD, and hydrogen seems to be one such use case.
      Plus not needing to use USD as reserves for Indian trucks / buses / ships will be a game changer in geopolitics.

    • @dskrishnan
      @dskrishnan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@ajaivaidyanathan5880 No. Coal & Natural Gas are energy sources, but H2 is not. We need to spend either Solar/Wind energy or Coal/Natural Gas energy to produce H2. In that process, we'll be wasting 2KW for every 1KW usable energy. Why are we promoting this 70% energy loss, while battery storage has less than 10% loss?.

    The other advantages and disadvantages notwithstanding, the reality is Hydrogen is a way to keep the fossil fuel based petro-chemical industry going by making up for any reduction in profitability from fall in demand for oil products in the future

    Your videos are amazing. Also your audience; even if the video explains a controversial political content 95% of comments are polite and courteous.
    People express their views politely even they oppose to each other.
