Did you know that the name Old Monk was based on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Gumnami baba avatar. Not many knows this information but I am sure about this.
Think school should add Audio track option for it's Hindi audience just like Mr.Beast..... 19 years old huge fan of Think School interested in business and Geopolitics.Love from PAKISTAN 🇵🇰
When he started talking about the fall of Old Monk, I paused the video and went to the shop and got a bottle of Old Monk as i simply will not allow Old Monk to fall. But then as video went ahead, he started talking about the rise of Old Monk again. So now both Old Monk and me are high as F and I'm proud of it.
The rise of Old Monk in recent years is due to the word of mouth on social media. Old Monk is legendary and still is legendary in the northern and eastern states especially in higher altitude places. Travel vloggers, food vloggers and social media influencers are bringing back the legend in unique and creative way through their content.
Old monk bounced back due to three reasons, 1. they started handing out bottling franchises to suppliers in different states and hence got back into markets which supported within state manufacturer ( eg. like in TN) 2. they started coming out with new and bit more premium products (eg. XO cafe rum) 3. their comeback rode on a wave of nostalgia especially in places where they were previously absent due to state interference.
Also they launched a small but emotional connect campaign, the Old Monk days, reach out to the people with whom you have had Old Monk if you have lost touch. That really caught up and lots of people for old nostalgia reach out to the brand and the people.
Very old story. And during the slow down, we in Karnataka never saw any shortages, neither is there one now. 30 Crores is a very small debt for such a large firm ! So is this a real case study or a marketing gimmick ?
Very nice video. Here are a few points that I would like to mention. 1. Even though they word it in a way that a common buyer would think that the rum is 7 years old, it is actually just fresh rum that is blended with fraction of aged rum. They use artificial flavors to achieve the taste that seems similar to an aged rum. 2. Same with usage of casks. Casks are expensive and because of high temperature in India, a lot of liquid is evaporated during the aging. While makers are genuinly aging the liquid in casks for prolonged period, selling it for sub 500 price is simply not practical or sustainable. 3. While this is just an opinion, their bounce back can be accounted to strong sales in Haryana (Gurgaon) as most NCR based people prefer to buy their alcohol from L1 stores because cheaper prices. Also, there is a nostalgia kick back as people have tried a lot of rums but none have been to crack the right taste balance and people are going back to the old trusted. Also, popular rums like Imperial Red disappeared from Delhi market after the liquor scam fiasco. Things may change as Indian rum industry is bound to go through a change in coming years with a lot of new players entering the market. Once again, loved the video. Cheers!!!
Since the time it rumoured the Bankruptcy... Old Monk fans flooded the market with its demand. The consumption rose sky high. This Rum can never be out of fashion. Legends are legends.

Ganesh: I live in the US and noticed that Old Monk is available in many liquor stores across the US, in the past 2-3 years. The specific brand they sell is "Old Monk Legend". I hope they push this more aggressively in the bars in the US. No advertising spells death knell these days. I love my Old Monk!
Heyy, thanks for the shoutout! After 2015, we did step up the game a bit. We also started showing up more at events and bars to vibe with the younger crowd. And exports helped us too-spreading the Monk love globally. At the end of the day, it's all about the stories n memories people have with Old Monk. Cheers for the love!

rise for old monk after 2021 was due to the fact that tourism shot up and the regular hilly places like parts of Uttrakhand, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh saw waves of tourists. All state/politicians promote their own brand which may their relatives or someone who give good money to them and manufacture locally. In Kerala they have promoted 'Javaan' which has high level of alcohol content, and they stopped only because of media power in our state. I being the lover of old monk seen the days where it was not available even in states like Karnataka. But I believe class is forever. Which created the demand for old monk again and we see a rise in sale and demand
Though Old Monk is a tastier rum then McDowels or Captain Morgan Rum, I just want to comment on aging part of the Old Monk Rum. 7 year aged rum blended is just a marketing gimmick. They don't mention how much of the aged rum they blend. Because selling a 7 year blended rum in india would make it way more costlier than various scotch available in the market because in a tropical country like India where evaporation is high and aging will leave very little alcohol to sell after 7 long years of aging and it will not be possible to sell a rum on that price point (xxx or others) In Mharashtra XXX cost around Rs. 800 where as a scotch like Black Dog cost around 3-4k. So this aging statement is controversial. It mainly contains artificial flavoring, artificial colours and GNP (grain neutral spirit). If somebody knows how much they blend 7 year old rum pls let me know as well.
Old Monk falling...How??? I see it everywhere 😂 In the last you only mentioned about the comeback it made, so the title should have been 'Rise Fall and Rise Again of Old Monk'
Maybe Old Monk is Ganesh's favorite drink, and he single-handedly went on to revive the brand, paving his path to becoming the brand ambassador of Old Monk 😃
They came back aggressively as you said they had reduced the prices, post 2014 they increased the prices which gave a feeling that they are premium also they bifurcated the product in package into tetra pack and bottled package in Karnataka. This is what is my observation.

Old Monk, an iconic Indian rum brand, has a long history that includes a Scottish founder, a brewery, and a connection to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
Any strategy we use will not change the fact that brands or products will rise and fall. The size of your product line doesn't matter. While I'm not a market expert, I think some products, like Old Monk, have a unique appeal that can't be replaced. Sales might drop, but the potential for a comeback remains, depending on how long the product has been off the market or lost its popularity. This is an interesting case study, and I appreciate you mentioning it. The rise and fall of Old Monk provides many insights to consider and learn from. The world is full of unknowns, and many factors from human thoughts and actions are constantly influencing every product, service, or business. Pace of Change is quite fast nowadays. Live Long!! Old Monk !! 😊👍

I think the main reasons of the sales surge in 2021 could be attributed to the following 1) post-pandemic surge along-with one of the most robust supply-chain within India which other brands lacked 2) Make-in India push may have Indians to re-discover this legend 3) Possible production cut or import cut around the same time which I couldn't reconcile either but could be worth having a look at

Good information brother. I’m from the state of Bengal. What I personally feel is they shouldn’t have introduced the plastic bottle. The rate also differs. A 750 ml bottle of plastic is INR 610, as compared to the other one which is INR 680. The price will definitely vary from state to state. The catch here is why the rates are different between these two. I’m talking about the 7 years blended product.

great case study, just one more point to add in lessons is that: - Old Monk reduced it's price which led to two things, 1) Brand value degradation; and 2) Wave of ignorance that too during globalisation and increasing standards of living!

Old monk gives less margin to retailers. That's why they don't buy it. Last year I searched it in atleast 10 wine shops in Delhi and don't get it so we have to buy Bacardi
I Learnt Lesson from the video about old monk liquor 🥃 1. Don't sell only one product add some more products not many as little as 3 or 4 2. If you want compete with the premium brands, you want build premium product , less than 10 or less than 5 is Enough. 3. Never compromise with quality over quantity & add some ✨ Uniqueness to your product. 4. R&d ( insights, Analysis etc..)is also important, they have to feel like it's not a only product it is a emotion. This is typically my opinion only if I said anything wrong please forgive me ✨ Being a 20-year old Boy , I Never know Old Monk was this legendary Story Back Then. Thank you ❤ Think School for educating us on this Aspect of Business. Also I Never Drink.
Amazing work! This was a much required information for Old Monk lovers and probably one of the best case studies for entrepreneurs or Business Manegement students.
Old monk is still the favorite of those in their late 30's and 40's due to nostalgia associated with it. Memories of "Friends doing 10Rs contri each to buy a bottle and do a house party" is surely propelling the sales to an extent. Those friends can now afford to buy many bottles individually🙂
Nice video. Consise and informative. I wish Old Monk is available in the off-license shops and restaurants outside India!! Its taste is classic and unchanged. The dark brown bottle, its unique shape and texture - the feel in hand!! Old Monk is an Indian Legend Spirit.

that too during globalisation and increasing standards of living!
People still love old monk.
It has distinct flavour and aroma
old monk Isn't failing, you are a failed youtuber
@@mr-x-003 do you understand English? Translate it into hindi if you are facing difficulty in understanding.
Is there anything where I mentioned old monk is failed?
I just said people still love old monk. It ha distinct flavour and aroma.
@@umeshchittirai it's my mistake , I thought I was commenting, but seems like I replied u , however this was for Think school, not for u
@@mr-x-003 you must have been so high
The introduction & background part was flawless perfect!!
In a single month old monk price hiked 3 times in Karnataka so I've shifted to Amrut Rum 🥴🙌🏻
I know... Maybe you want to switch to whiskey because rum is made from sugarcane... It'll cause diabetes. I think
Excellent case study man 🔥
Damn! 💀
First shocker is that I never knew Old Monk was an Indian brand which ruled the world, that's some serious sh**...👏🏻
Second, it's great to see this case study on ThinkSchool ❤
Third, Appreciate NM ji's work ...
Because you aren't drinking enough 😂
The last part of the video is an eye opener!❤
How did it bounced back is very important please incorporate that !
“ if you have not tasted old monk before - you will feel the taste in your mouth “ pure gold statement - I am listening to this early morning as a walk 🤔😟 I wish to try 😂
❤❤
brother a major salute to your research team
I went to Ottawa canada and some.of my canadian friends requested me to bring Old Monk as it is rarely available there!! And if available it sells out quickly!! 😀
Video starts at 3:55
Thank you 😊
Without it in bangalroe 2006 , i wouldnt have finished my studies. loved it.
all the way from malaysia
Fall???? Really???
Old monk gives less margin to retailers. That's why they don't buy it. Last year I searched it in atleast 10 wine shops in Delhi and don't get it so we have to buy Bacardi
Never found a shop without an old monk either coffee, gold reserves or amber were available
@@Shobhitgupta_46 bhai winter me nahi available hoti
@@rohitkumarsharma3769 same in winter ❄️
Yep, supply problem.
That's the main reason, even in Uttarakhand in 2010s you couldn't get old monk in Wine shops...all you could get Beach house and McDowell....
I Learnt Lesson from the video about old monk liquor 🥃
1. Don't sell only one product add some more products not many as little as 3 or 4
This is typically my opinion only if I said anything wrong please forgive me ✨
Being a 20-year old Boy , I Never know Old Monk was this legendary Story Back Then. Thank you ❤
Think School for educating us on this Aspect of Business. Also I Never Drink.

Amazing work! This was a much required information for Old Monk lovers and probably one of the best case studies for entrepreneurs or Business Manegement students.
Recently Old Monk Also Launched The Coffee Flavour. Who Tried It & How's It ??

It will always be my favorite💯
I don't drink and I know nothing but yet loved this case study.. and even made a summary (notes)❤❤
Thankyou Ganesh Bhai .!
Best notes would be about the taste 😂
Old monk is sold as vanilla flavoured rum. Abroad you get spiced rum closest. But as soon as you sip old monk you know it is it
Fall ? Its going high internationally 😅
Watch till last
Old monk is still the favorite of those in their late 30's and 40's due to nostalgia associated with it. Memories of "Friends doing 10Rs contri each to buy a bottle and do a house party" is surely propelling the sales to an extent. Those friends can now afford to buy many bottles individually🙂
Bro you've literally made a community post about this video like 3 weeks ago😢
Nice video. Consise and informative.
I wish Old Monk is available in the off-license shops and restaurants outside India!! Its taste is classic and unchanged. The dark brown bottle, its unique shape and texture - the feel in hand!! Old Monk is an Indian Legend Spirit.
SULA Will conquer the world wine market in near future. Promising company with fantastic results.
