    1 small mistake I want to point out, if a charterer hires a vessel from a shipping company, charterer pays for the fuel (Bunker) and decides the route. Ship owner doesn't not pay for it. It's under charter party agreement.

    • @maritime_maverick

      2nd, container ships cost must more than what you said (50-100crores). Only the engine on my ship cost over 200 crore. Ships price for a size 300-400m varies between 200-300 million dollars.

    Good one. Noticed one mistake. At 6.53 you mentioned that ABG had capacity to build ships up to 20 Tons in weight. That is hugely understated. A full shipping container of 20 foot weighs over 20 Tons. ABG probably was capable of building ships over 20,000 Tons in weight

      A container measures either 8ft by 8ft by 20 feet or 8ft by 8ft by 40 feet. The weight of the container depends on the cargo is stuffed inside.
      Secondly , a ship has a light weight and a deadweight.
      Deadweight is the amount of cargo that can be carried. Lightweight is the Deadweight -fuel-water-lubes etc. Basically, just the weight of the steel.
      So, in this case a ship cab have a light weight of 20mt but a Deadweight of 20000 mt.

    • @rawikirran
      @rawikirran 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What happens after scams like these?
      A) It becomes headlines in news for sometime, a case in court which will take forever to come to judgement,
      A lot of investigation and paper work and then the scam becomes a case study and history ....until it repeats sometime in future.
      What do banks do to recover their money?
      A) No they will not, they will write it off as loss over a period of time from future profits.
      The future profits will be made from retails customets like salaried employees.
      Could it be recovered?
      A) only if the scammer is a fool, usually if the assets are within india, they will be seized.
      if they are overseas very rare chances.
      How will it affect a common citizen?
      A) Common citzens pay for it by supporting banks to make more profits and getting cashback on credit cards.

  • @arun92vignesh

    Basic mistake is Banks do not lend based on past or present financials for Business loans unlike retail lending. Banks lend money to corporates based on future projections. Dont say that Bankers have not done due diligence as if you have read the entire appraisal notes of each and evey Banks that have financed ABG. ABG Shipyard would have got some new orders for which Banks would have funded. And these sort of big ticket loans are approved not by a single person but by the Committee containing the Board, MD, EDs and GMs of the respective Banks. The projected financials would have been viable. Banks also take external professional assistance from firms to conduct TEV study. And lending doesnt work like how u analysed current assets and current liablties. There are lot more than that before taking a credit decision. The company has fooled the Bankers and had taken the money.

    • @ddb0831
      @ddb0831 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      “The company had fooled the bankers”!!! How educated and competent are these bankers then if they are so easily fooled?? One would have thought they would have tightened up their due diligence processes given the history of past scams in India!! Don’t they learn???

      IPO for an educational venture that revolutionizes the system of learning in India, and I don't mean companies that provide the "2-teacher advantage". ThinkSchool has the capability to reach out to wider audiences (although even we are partly responsible for it), and it has always maintained and even upscaled the quality of their videos consistently... Looking at these figures + the sentiment value, I think TS would be a smart investment if ever it reaches that destination 😉

    Usually these videos are very detailed, with great insights. This one merely scratched the surface. The biggest question in all these bad loans is ‘how’ do these people actually get the loan in the first place - is it simple bribery to right personal? If so, then the governance processes should have been redesigned years ago - what’s stopping that?
    Need to focus on Business Ethics and responsibility related video - and why that fails again and again in India - from Harshat Mehta to APG.

    When a foreign ship owner takes a loan from a bank to pay the installments for the ship under construction, his banker takes upon himself the tasks of monitoring the construction. He needs to be sure that the advances made by him are spent in shipbuilding and that the money is in safe hands. He sends his representative periodically to the shipyard to monitor the progress. In case of default by shipyard, the ship owner has the right to recover the money through the bank guarantees provided by shipyard for each instalment along with some interest. In this way the foreign banker ensures that the funds are safe.
    I am sure Indian banks also have such safeguards. But they do not appear to follow any such safe practices. Otherwise such frauds would have been prevented or revealed years ago.
    Clearly, our bankers need to be blamed. Government should initiate another CBI inquiry against the banks which have lost their funds. Either improve their practices or at least privatize the PSU banks.
    Responsibility also rests with RBI for proper governance.

    Very nicely explained. It would've been clearer if you'd mentioned some of the major names who engaged in the scam, i.e. the directors of ABG Shipyard. I'm sure that's public info.

    • @gauravsarda2330
      @gauravsarda2330 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How would it have been clearer with just a few names?? Lets say xyz is the name of one the director. What clarity have you obtained? (Not saying there's no room for improvement, but this comment is spineless) (isn't what you mean - who did what and how did they obtain the loan?)

  • @tstcikhthys

    Another great video. Here are some things I noticed in this one:
    1:54 "Rs" is deprecated as a symbol for the rupee now. You can type the rupee sign (₹) if you set your computer to the "English (India)" locale and keyboard, and press AltGr (Right Alt) + 4.
    2:50 Since "middle east" are generic words, you have to say _the_ Middle East to refer to the specific region.
    3:06 _Freight_ is pronounced "fray-t", not "free-t". This is why the TH-cam transcript thought you said "freed".
    4:33 _economy_ is pronounced with stress on the second syllable, not the third: e-CO-no-my, not e-co-NO-my.
    5:12 _freight_ is a mass noun (like "water"), not a count noun (like "book"), so it cannot be plural.
    6:57 It sounds like you're pronouncing _vessels_ as "wessels".
    8:06 _Baroda_ is a transliteration (though kinda an incorrect one; it should be "Barauda") of बड़ौदा, not बरोडा, so it should be pronounced accordingly.
    13:00, 13:16 Again, you mean to say "effect" and "affected", not "impact" and "impacted": nothing is crashing into anything else.
