Have you tried / plan on trying this?
Yes, i would also suggest trying Virtual desktop (not the PC version but the native Quest version) the PC version is discontinued (has been for 3-4 years). Allows you to play PC vr games on your quest 3 + having the similar experience as Bigscreen. Also latency and artifacting can be resolved by having a dedicated WIFI6 or WIFI6e router wired to your PC and connect your headset through that. (what is important is wired direct connection between the router and PC and your headset is the only thing connecting to that router). Almost like wired experience.
Virtual Desktop for the win, the dev has been on top of the VR community from day one and did loads of utilities for the community with superior technical excellence.
Highly recommended.
Virtual Desktop with WIFI 6, I lay in my bed and play games from my computer that is in several rooms away. I have to use xbox controller because bluetooth keyboard and mouse have issues with some games on virtual desktop. Its pretty seamless and my latency is about 20-30ms, which is fine for casual gaming. My latency with wifi 6 in the office is almost 0 -10 ms. I play all my games now in Virtual Deskop in the Movie theater. Its amazing.
For star citizen control boxes with physical buttons/switches etc really help with playing in vr. I did vr in elite and I eventually learned how to tell where my switches were by touch and muscule memory didnt need to peak anymore.
Thank you Dig for your perspective on this! Very cool!
Salute!
Wow ! Lots of Great Info ! Nicely done Dig 😊
Right on.YAAAARRRR!
Dude, you are hilarious! Thnx, imma test this one out.
Game futuristicaly
Killer video man! Never heard of Immersed! Might give that a go!
Pretty solid my guy
Well laid out video. I learned a lot. Thanks, Dig!
o7
Glad to hear it!
not only you have god's voice but you also make freakin epic guides.. cheers bro
Big thanks, gray
hell yes, cant wait. FYI as an ex pimax owner I can advise you not to get one, they are so buggy that half the time you cant even get them to work and then they are insanely heavy to the point where you turn your head and the headset basically stays in one place flopping around, just go strap suicase to your head to see if you like it before getting one, I sold mine and went back to my oculus rift which is way better even with its age
Wow, that buggy? Weight looks to be about double the Quest... so 1 Quest per eye... crazy.
@@DigThat32 you dont know how important weight is to immersion untill you physically see your screen sliding across your vision in a quick head turn, in my experience the pimax is unusable for anything other than watching videos and even then its bad because your neck gets sore and it puts out twice the heat of my oculus too
Good Stuff!
Thanks Andre
I'm jumping in vr games just posted up playing 2d on my meta menu screen.
Damn if this doesn't sell a VR headset, which, quite frankly, nothing has done for me up to this point. Perhaps instead of buying more monitors I'll just get something like this, assuming that it can be plugged in so that I don't need to deal with battery life issues.
It's a beautiful time in the VR Nation right now!
I did this back when I played Elite Dangerous in VR. Nothing makes mining asteroids less boring like watching some Hen Tie on a virtual monitor.
AYO???
Great vid! Long time VR user, first time wireless VR (Quest3) user. I’ve watched lots of YT vids on BigScreen, Immersed, Meta Horizon, etc… but yours is the first really focused on the gaming aspect. Awesome that you mention your experience in SC, Starfield, and Cyber punk, three of my most played games.
I’m going to give Virtual Desktop a try and report back to let you know if I experienced similar issues.
Thanks!
Thanks! Let me know which version of virtual desktop you use
@@DigThat32 Will do!
@@DigThat32 Apologies for the delayed reply. I finally found time to try SC on my Quest3 via Virtual Desktop (version 1.30.5). It ran flawlessly via WiFi connection. No stutter or tearing. It was a little dark though and had to increase the brightness for headset play.
I use a WiFi 6 router reserved solely for the Q3, 1200Mbps connection, 120Hz, in Ultra settings.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Thanks again, great vid!
@@mdsf01Hi, Is your monitor set to 120 Hz? Have you locked the framerate in the game options to 120 fps?
Cab you share your settings, tips to prevent from stutter ?
hmm, I also saw you had a cord hooked up in your mirror... is it better to connect to PC while gaming, and is that possible if not playing Steam VR?
so you mainly play over wifi to your PC? I'm wondering for the best latency-low option to play retro games (emulation, not always AAA games through steam, etc) on my quest 3. looks like bigscreen may be the best way?
the paid virtual desktop on the quest app is airlink only but it runs very well compared to traditional airlink
Hasn't this been there since the OG Rift? But resolution was an issue in general with the Rift.
Right when I got my Index I messed with Bigscreen and thought it was awesome, but I wasn't impressed with the gaming side of VR so ultimately I ended up tucking the thing in a drawer and barely used it since. Thanks for the inspiration to pull it out and finally get some use out of that $1000 impulse purchase. Going to keep it hung up and plugged in next to me so it's easy to pick up and use
Get er done!
if you want to use airlink you need a wifi 6 router, plugged directly into your pc, dedicated for nothing but streaming data to your headset. only way to get a clear picture through airlink
Seems a shame to give up the agility and awareness the set-up gives us in-game to have that same awareness in a room that doesn't really matter.
@digthat32 i have a question tho is the view on the edge clearer then on the quest 2 ? when i play star citizen on my quest two i cant properly read chat i use meta link software together with steam vr.i want to upgrade to the meta quest 3 but it somehow depends on that for me if the image around the screen edge dous not get anny better i dont know if ill pay that amount for it
I'm always spilling my damn Henny 😆
Well more of a bourbon guy but I for sure get you!
My favorite is hosting the theatre and playing 3d movies
Unfortunately I only have the Oculus Rift S still. Which at this point looks like it's abandonware.
o7 ... Thank you for covering this.
About to date myself here but, I remember when Sony had a headset that I used to use while on submarine deployment. It was awesome to be laying down and play games while others were able to sleep.
-Sub
Really? When was this?
I mean, you Could already do this with the quest 2 and steam Vr.
But hey the quest 3 can do it better so you know.
I recommend watching a few of Rambalac's YT walking videos wearing any HMD. Videos are recorded in 4K, and use very good mics for spatial audio. Best VR flat-screen experience I've had so far.

@@DigThat32 Dude! Thanks for the mention. Do go find Ram's videos. His walking videos are all in Japan - some in bustling cities like Tokyo and others in peaceful parks and in the countryside.
@@byron_00 I believe I did watch one of his vids. There must have been an anime convention going on nearby since a lot of the younger people were in costume.
I want a replica of my 80's bedroom, so I can insert an SC cartridge into a NES and play on a CRT TV.
Mic gotta detect a blowing sound for em to work
I saw exactly that, it exists in VR. Can’t remember where or how it’s called; but it’s there.
Bro I just played Warzone on APKpure and that shit was fire!!
Please tell me you've used vorpx to play Star Citizen in at-scale VR?! I play and stream in VR almost daily and can't go back.
Wanting a Quest 3 so bad to up the quality over the 2...
I don't. Waiting on native stereoscopic love, sir.
BTW SC has a 3d sterotpyical injection now, you should give it a try in vr :)
via Vorpx or what?
Motion sickness is real will fuck your eyes up
Loved the video, I tried this with NMS and I couldn't get the cursor to look in my direction when using Meta's controllers.
You were using a virtual monitor, but controlling the game w/touch controllers?
@@DigThat32 The physical controllers. At that point I gave up and went to SteamVR .
This is sick
Virtual Desktop on the Quest 3 worked really nice for me. I used it wirelessly and with the KIWI link cable 10ft and had good results. I tried a few other ways, and virtual desktop had the most in depth settings and diagnostic info by a long shot.
I was really surprized on how well the wireless streaming worked. I have a new network setup and will see if WiFi 6e is even better soon. I really think this might be the start of how to make VR useful to more people. There is something really cool about picking up the headset, no wires and it just works.
I'm rockin' the Kiwi cable too...16ft I think... What are you playing wirelessly?
@@DigThat32Funny thing is I also played Star Citizen, Cyberpunk, but also a bit of MSFS. I even took the time to try to enable headtracking using FreePIE.
@@DigThat32 Star Citizen, Cyberpunk, and some MSFS. I even tried to get headtracking to work a bit with FreePIE.
Salute!
Virtual Desktop is a way to go. Worth every penny. I play wirelessly Star Citizen and MSFS in 4k/120hz there. No latency at all with wifi 6e router wired to PC.
Immersed/Bigsceen inferior to VD, tested them all.
VR isnt getting the love it deserves
Facts.
This. It’s the medium we always wanted. We wanted to be in the video games. Now it’s removed the need to buy a giant tv
