Nice set up! I’m using my Smartcap for shelter with my wife and dog when camping. I’m also using a raised platform in the bed to give us more space since it sits over the wheel wells. You do lose some headroom though. Works perfect for my applicatio!
Glad to see you back. Much of the same mods with mine although I think the Evo A with molle doors made my build probably simpler. Like the use of ring nuts - I also used ring magnets for paper towels.
I'm in Australia and have a VW Amarok. Recently ordered an RSI Smart Cap Evo S and will receive it in about 4 weeks, so I can't wait to have it fitted! I've also ordered a full set of drawers, dual battery setup etc. These cars are money pits but provide a lot of fun and adventure!
Great set up. Thanks for sharing. I have two questions I'm hoping you might know the answer to. I am deciding between getting the RSI Smartcap for the back of my 5.5' F150 bed, with the Roofnest Sparrow2 pop up hard cover tent on top that does not need the ladder for added support but does partially extend over the top of the cab, or getting the Diamondback HD bed cover, with the Front Runner 6" high rack on top of that, with the Roofnest Condor2 side opening tent that uses a ladder for part of it's support but remains at or below the roofline of the cab. My question for you, if I get the RSI Smartcap and mount the Roofnest Sparrow2 pop tent on top, such that it would partially extend over the top of the cab, do you know how quiet it would be, and how much it might decrease average mpg on long drives? Oh, and any issues with leaks? I really want to keep the interior fully dry if at all possible, no matter how hard the rainstorm or snowstorm, and ideally even if I use a carwash. Thanks.
Love the set up- how close are you to hitting your max payload capacity on this? I drive an F150- Heavy Duty Tow package- planning to carry two kayaks on Thule Hullavators, two bikes, bike rack, Dometic CFX75, Weber Traveller BBQ, two adults and a big dog- by the time I add on the Smart Cap and all the gear, I am within 50lbs of my max payload, which is unfortunate as I really wanted to include a cargo bed slide, but I just don’t have the capacity
Question! Looks like a dry dusty area. How does the smart cap do with the dust accumulation inside and have you done anything unique other than installing the smart cap to keep dust out?
Did you have to take apart the roof tracks to add the crossbars / platform. If so how do you get access to adding additional hardware for other components ?
how is the cap mounted to the bed of the truck? I know it uses the side rails. But the setup you have doesnt look like the hardware that comes with the cap. Did you install it yourself? good looking setup BTW
@@cementtacocalifornia5638 yup i have a 21 DCLB sport. Was tough finding an off-road version when i bought mine. Just ordered a smartcap too. I thought the brackets looked different when I watched some of the install videos.
Love your set up! Few questions if you have time as I'm adding my RTT soon to my RSI. What case are you using on cab rack behind traction boards? Are you finding the load bars enough for the RTT?
I have Front Runner bars which work fine and not a lot of weight which is nice. The case is a old Plano rifle case that i got on sale when i first started my build. :)
Can you open it from the inside? Its going to be awhile before i can get the rooftop tent and i want would like to sleep in the bed, but i cant tell if you can open from the inside based on all the reviews ive seen.
Do you know the weight of the rsi on the Tacoma short bed? Was considering swapping out my fiberglass shell for one just curious if I’ll be saving any weight.
Great set up !!! Good ideas for my Smart Cap on my Gladiator !! Thanks for sharing !

Sweet! Enjoy the process of building out your rig. :)
Awesome. It's been 4 weeks, is it fitted??
Can you show us around and talk to us about your trailer? I love seeing your build progress as you use it more and the explanations. 👍

Good question....i beefed up my leaf springs and added airbags for towing. Handles like a dream off road still!
would love to see your solar setup in a video! i’m looking to add solar and TT my smartcap, it’s on order right now for my 6ft bed tacoma !
Let me see what i can do. :)
Question! Looks like a dry dusty area. How does the smart cap do with the dust accumulation inside and have you done anything unique other than installing the smart cap to keep dust out?
I put a wide piece of Gorilla Tape at the space where the bottom of the tailgate meets the bed. Works great!
Awesome set
Up. You using goal zero solar?
I also Like the paper
Towel Velcro thing. You make that or buy it?
Hey Thanks! I have Ecoflow now for power all around. I bought the paper towel holder. :)
Did you have to take apart the roof tracks to add the crossbars / platform. If so how do you get access to adding additional hardware for other components ?
I was told you cannot take the roof tracks off. They are integral to the structure of the SmartCap.
How did you mount your RTT? I have a smartcap and Im trying to figure out how to mount my ROAM RTT to it. Thanks!
Nice! Enjoy! I have the Front Runner bars as the SmartCap bars were not available when I ordered my topper. They work great!
Would you get it without the side windows if you were to do it again?
I have a smart cap too and was wondering what you went with for load bars on top to mount your RTT?

Thanks! It had a bracket with bolt that slides into side tracks in three places on each side. Very solid!
@@cementtacocalifornia5638 sweet, where did you get it from? Or did you make it yourself?
@@Wubler84 It came from SmartCap. Do you have a Tacoma?

Any issues with leaks?
Not at all

With that set up do you need to change out the stock suspension?? Or can the stock suspension hold it?
I upgraded springs in front and back
What molle panel is that hanging on your read (cab side) window?

does your cap leak? viewed other reviews and they were having problems with leaking.
No I haven't had any issues with leakage
What bars do you use on top of your cap to mount your tent?
I’m trying to find which bars I need but not sure which to buy.
@@CyanPaint Check out Front Runner bars.

All the specs are on the RSI website.
