Nice review. And nice cap. A question. What about rain getting between the back of the cab and the front of the Smartcap, doesn't that make visibility difficult, and isn't that difficult to clean, to wipe to improve visibility? Thanks.
Nope, you just pull it closed from the inside. It stays unlocked but remains tightly closed. Don’t keep food inside while you are sleeping in bear country.
The issue with the latches freezing has been handled since this video. They sent out rubber covers until they made new locks. They appear to have rebuilt their locks that are now freeze proofed.
A few questions: Do you have to weather proof that yourself or is that done by the installer, how does it do at keeping rain/dust out and did I see that correctly at 168lbs for the weight?
@@pakfrd7887 I still love it. I've considered putting white Vinyl wrap on the top to help with heat gain, but haven't done it. Given that nobody rides or spends time back there heat isn't much of an issue. I suppose I could also put an insulating headliner in it, but it really isn't an issue.
I've watched a lot of these rsi smartcap vids now, and in one, only one, the guy said rain gat in thru the vent on top, and it was always getting his stuff wet inside, really bummed him out. Clearly in desert like conditions as in your video that wouldn't be an issue, but to the extent you've been in wet, rainy environments have you had that issue? Odd that only one video referenced it.
Too many limitations to versatility, they need taller models, and models that extend over the cab. They need a model that not only extends over 75% of the cab's length, but it also needs to rise and retract like a 4Wheel camper slide in unit.
A Huge thank you Mike! Living in the mountains and in snow made this choice a lock in! As well as using a 'local' shop with Rack2Roam.
I like my Smartcap, but the top rails weren't cheap either. They were over $200 for the pair. Now I'm looking towards Rhino for a shade cover.
Yep. I got the frontrunner bars. At least they’re very very strong!
Where’d you get that sweet TRD Hat?! Awesome smartcap review by the way. This just added so much to my stoke to get one of these.
I got that from the Toyota booth at KOH last year.

That’s a factor with any cap. But it’s not a big deal because visibility through the cap isn’t that great in the first place.
Man. I loved my smart cap. Best mod I did to my Tacoma. I have a Tundra now a miss the cap, but love the visibility I have with no cap.
Excellent Review. Thanks for going into the details.
An important question for my usage case (actually sleeping inside): can you unlatch and open/close the doors from inside?
No.
@@AllTerrainFamilyfricken stupid. You spend almost 5k for the thing and you can’t do that? Thanks for telling us this just saved me a ton of money.

@@Girl2skate 5k+ for a truck cap and you can’t even open it from this inside. What a joke.
I think RSI will send you lock covers that combat the freezing
I know, but they look flimsy and i don’t want to have to deal with them. WD40 does the trick.

Nice review ! Where’d you get that hat ?
Thanks! I got that at the Toyota booth at King of The Hammers.

The installer will do a good weather seal. Rack 2 Roam does a really thorough job of that. But it will leak if you don’t do it well.
This what I want but I'm wondering If they make for Ford Maverick, where to order or who install .
I do have know about maverick. Chek the website.
What made you choose this over the alu cab contour cap??? I’m considering both
This was available locally on Craigslist. If the other had come along I’d have considered it. But the smartcap is the best looking IMO.
How's the heat of the topper with this material in summers and hot days? this is one of my hesitations on getting one.
Quite hot! I’m considering putting white vinyl wrap on the top to combat that.
@@AllTerrainFamily How's the review with all this heat this summer? I'm on the fence with this or a snug top hi-liner

It hasn’t been a problem for me.
Have you had any water-intrusion issues?
Yes. From the front of the truck bed where there are gaps. But nit from the smartcap itself.
RSI?

I have to fit mine in the garage, So this works great!
Weird take. It’s not a camper.
I agree, that is why such a good idea as this product is, needs much improvement.
Build upon it.
You wanna sell me that old snug? We live close by.
You’re about 2 years too late.
