In todays video we have a brief overview of my first impressions after playtesting a few times the Barons War Ruleset.
The Video is divided into 4 chapters
    Chapter I : Customization
    Chapter II : Dice Innovation
    Chapter III : Interesting Rules
    Chapter IV : Adapting/House Rules
    Barons War :
In the Kingdom of England by 1215, a group of powerful barons had reached breaking point due to King Johns despotic rule, high taxes and failed leadership. It was time to rebel!
Written by Andy Hobday, these rules enable narrative-driven tabletop games set in an England gripped by civil war played out against the backdrop of the Magna Carter and the invasion by the Crown Prince of France.
The historically themed gameplay is fast-paced and tactical. With warriors of this period being pretty similar, it is easy to base your medieval skirmish games using these rules in any setting.

This is my favourite period for wargaming,Heraldry is simpler and you can have Robin Hood!

Hahahaha very true i saw it in the rule book! Yes it was my favorite era when i started wargaming and before i moved to the HYW. The good think is that all units can be used for all armies except maybe the Nobles. Thank you for watching my friend!

Great video! I’m with you, I really love the level of customization the game offers; it really allows you to create a personalized force that feels unique. I’m excited to see your miniatures painted soon, I’m sure they’re amazing. Happy new year!

Hello Nik, if I am not mistaken, the second edition of these rules has the HYW section.

I am not sure but it would be very interesting to see how they will adapt it for the HYW. For sure I will review it but my edition has only the Barons War. Thank you for watching and commenting as always my friend!

Thanks for the video and I look forward to the workshops in the near future. And it was lovely to see your very first miniatures that you had painted 25 years ago. Maybe they are Perry designs.

Hey! I enjoyed it a lot. I found your point on strength of bow interesting. Makes sense from the historical point of view! In the game, when over used and especially in combination with some abilities, it has a potential to take fun away from the opponent. Naturally, if you play a specific historical, narrative scenario and so on, it is great to do it. In friendly games or tournaments, however, it became something attention was drawn to. It is great to have bowmen, I love to use crossbowmen myself ;), but there is a need to regulate that. Some of it is done by specifying the percentage of missile troops a player can take in the retinue. It seems to work well! The best of both worlds. Now we are testing it all for ourselves in Outremer. ;) Once more, a fantastic video, I look forward to more, it is great to see a fresh perspective on the game from an experienced warmer for sure. Sharing it now :)

Thank you for the kind words my friend glad you enjoyed the video! More to come. Yes i though i would tackle this from a historical point of view and not a gaming point of view because in my opinion you know tough luck.. hahaha if a Commander is clever enough to use the Longbows as intended before Edward III good on him.. hahaha but again i think even from a gaming point of view you have options running using your shields attacking with other missile troops.. that is where real game strategy and thinking comes in and makes in my opinion the game fun! I always play games with major or minor disadvantages I do not like a chess match ... Thank you for sharing the video much appreciated!

@@MedievalWargamer Fair play! LOL, I am willing to go against anything and try to figure it out - no problem LOL. When I organise a tournament I want people to have fun, and the regulations are needed. Mark is good and picking that stuff too, and worked on creating more balanced tournament experience for people. Btw. One amazing thing about this game is that whatever tool your opponent has on disposal, there is always something you can use against them that takes the edge of their 'advantage'. Bills vs Warhorses, good use of terrain vs range weapons ;)

@@wrymouthstudio yes yes i agree very true! Tournaments obviously are another thing and although i have never entered one gamers need to have equal and balanced armies for sure but when playing with friends trying to figure out a difficult situation is much more fun! hehehehe

    Nice video.
I intend to use Baron Wars for the Anarchy (Matilda vs Stephen) which is essentially just a generation earlier. I built a small motte and bailey castle of the sort that would be found on the Welsh Marches. Now I'm gathering suitable figures for Anglo-Normans and Welsh.
