- Future "Doctor Who" star Peter Capaldi appeared as Beatle George Harrison in the 1985 NBC-TV drama "John and Yoko: A Love Story." This video includes all of Capaldi's scenes. John Lennon is played by Mark McGann, brother of Eighth Doctor Paul McGann. Yoko Ono is played by Kim Miyori, Paul McCartney by Kenneth Price, Ringo Starr by Phillip Walsh, and Brian Epstein by Richard Morant.
Mark McGann was the second choice for the John Lennon role in this film, after the actor originally cast, known as Mark Lindsay, revealed that his full name was Mark Lindsay Chapman, which was deemed too similar to that of Lennon's killer.

I thought the same thing, but he did pretty good at speaking and singing like Paul.
First Capaldi was Harrison, then Eccleston was Lennon in another later film. What's next, Matt Smith as RIngo?

oh my goodness... so Chris Eccleston played John Lennon In Lennon Naked, Peter Capaldi played George Harrison in this, and Andrew Scott played Paul McCartney in Lennon Naked... and also, the kid who saved the Doctor in the episode "Human Nature" also played Paul McCartney in the movie Nowhere Boy... so many BBC Doctor Who and Sherlock/ Beatles connections!!

I am convinced there are only 30 British actors and they circulate around different roles and costumes.
It’s really funny watching movies like this because they tend to really feed into the whole myth that the atmosphere in the studio with the Beatles was just nothing but tension and moodiness. Get Back really debunks all the myths surrounding The Beatles and Let It Be
This reminds me of seeing Peter Capaldi and Craig Ferguson back in late 70's in a band they had in Glasgow called The Dreamboys! It was in the decanted Glasgow School Of Art student union, while they fixed the original building. Peter was the singer and occasional guitarist, and Craig was the drummer, and very good they were too! I remember meeting Peter a couple of days later in the Third Eye Centre cafe with his red Gibson SG in tow! I think he worked in a bar to get that guitar! I was very impressed as it was the first Gibson I'd ever seen in the flesh, so to speak. Christ, that was almost 40 years ago!

For people saying that Capaldi was a doctor (the 12th),, and so was Eccleston (9th doctor) that played John in Lennon Naked? Well, Mark McGaan that plays John in this, is the brother of Paul McGaan, who ALSO played a Doctor (the 8th)
I spoke to Yoko and Larry King on his show on CNN when she was promoting this movie. I asked her what control she had over the movie. She said little to none. I asked Larry if he liked Beatle music. He said not until a famous composer (whose name escapes me) showed him the finer points of their compositions.
I seen Mark McGann on a flight from Bristol to Zurich about 10 years ago. As we were leaving the plane, he happened to be walking in front of me. I said that I loved his performance as John Lennon and he said in his Liverpool accent „ awwww bless ya heart“
Yoko said in the George Harrison documentary from 2011 that George was always very kind to her, and that he didn't treat her poorly just because she was a girlfriend in the studio. Seems odd that they'd single him out to be the complainer here considering he was supposedly the opposite.

Originally a different actor was set to play the role but his name was very similar to Mark David Chapman, the man who killed john so they got this guy instead.

One thing they didn't even try to do in this movie was keep up with Lennon's ever-changing hair lengths in the Seventies. They basically kept him in that 1968 look for a big chunk of the film.

"John's" look as "Paul" sings You Never Give Me Your Money is worth the price of admission in itself.
It’s also funny watching this movie in particular portray George as being moody and not liking Yoko. I mean, at some points George was moody but that’s because he felt like his ideas weren’t being listened to while John and Paul were pretty much working together
Jim Sturgess should be in this movie, as Paul McCartney. Look at the brilliant role he did in the musical Across The Universe.
