    Definitely Aaron Johnson ' ...the feel and ambience of Nowhere Boy was 100% ...the continuity of Aaron's performance was believable, edgy and fresh. Great video.

      In an interview from the Nineties Ian was the first and only person to explain that his Liverpool accent wasn't quite like the Beatles' WW2-generation Liverpool Scouse. Since he was a fellow Liverpudlian, Ian did the best job inhabiting Lennon (featuring Lennon's Liverpool accent and inflection from a previous generation).

    I think you miss the point of Robert Carlisle’s performance where this John Lennon’s life is set in an alternative universe where the main character wakes up in an alternative universe where the Beatles never existed. The main character found John Lennon who was still alive in the present day but had led a completely different life with a different set of experiences and therefore had become a different person in this reality. Robert Carlisle was mindful of this so he portrayed John Lennon in what was essentially a Romantic/fantasy film

    • @BeatlesBible1

      Yes, they did have different life conditions, but I always interpreted that this John had the same tough upbringing that made him tough; he just didn’t become famous. But I can see your point.

    I've met both Mark McCann and Ian Hart...the best lennon voice ( but still not 100% was McCann ) the best capture of johns personality was Ian Hart in backbeat ...best overall would be Arron even though he doesn't sound like john...he looks a little like john. Accents are tough. I'm from South Liverpool were all the beatles are from.and even I have trouble!!!

    You need to remember that Robert was not necessarily playing John Lennon, but was playing an older John Lennon who was never famous. You said he played it "too sweet", but who's to say John wouldn't have turned out like that given the vastly different circumstances?
    (And Paul Rudd's was literally a comedy lol and was not supposed to be taken seriously)

    Yeah, Mark McGann by a mile for sure. Curiously enough, Mark Lindsay Chapman was the original casting choice for “John and Yoko: A Love Story.” He was going by “Mark Lindsay” when he was cast, but revealing his full name lost him the job.

  • @obbor4
    @obbor4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I didn't see him acting as John, but I saw the ironically named Mark Chapman do a live show playing with a band for every part of his career. Or, at least, The Beatles and a bunch of his solo stuff, with costume changes. He was fantastic!!!

    • @stephenalanmoore7278
      @stephenalanmoore7278 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Are you sure that you are not mixing Mark Chapman up with fellow actor Mark McGann, as McGann actually acted, sang and performed in a stage play about John Lennon in 2008 with a Beatles tribute band called 'Pepperland'?
      As far as I know, after Chapman lost the role of John to McGann in the 1985 US TV Movie 'John And Yoko: A Love Story' (due to his full name being so similar to that of Lennon's killer), the only time he ever got to play John after that misfortune was in the film 'Chapter 27' playing opposite a bloated Jared Leto as his infamous near namesake.
      Therefore, I think that you may well have just confused the two actors with each other, simply because they both have the same first name and also due to the fact that they've each played John Lennon in different productions.

    Don't forget Howard Kaylan's "My Dinner With Jimi" which showed a brief moment of The Turtles seeing The Beatles in 1967. Brian Groh acted as John. The ending credits he asks "I hope I don't look like such an A-hole". You were right about the John and Yoko - A Love Story. Could be a cheesy mid-80s TV movie, but you sometimes forget about it when watching the film. Even some songs sounded like the actual recordings from John.

    I will admit that if I was going to be loyal to an actor portraying John for the silver screen, it would be John Clive Yellow Submarine was my gateway into just tolerating when my parents played the music of The Beatles to getting fully absorbed in it for myself. I put him ever so slightly above Mark McGann, but that's only because I think Mark got the voice slightly unnatural, but he's a very close 2nd in my opinion (almost no question).

    • @stephenalanmoore7278

      The late Bernard Hill also played John Lennon in a 1975 Willy Russell stage play which premiered at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre and was called 'John, Paul, George, Ringo....And Bert'.
      It also starred Trevor Eve as McCartney, Philip Joseph as Harrison, the late Anthony Scher as Starr and George Costigan as the entirely fictional.character of Bert.
      The play's music score of iconic Beatles songs was actually sung and performed by Scottish actress and folk singer Barbra Dickson, of all people. A very strange choice.

      I have to agree eith you that actor Christopher Eccleston was entirely miscast, not only because at forty seven, he was way too old for the part, but also that he looked more like The Who' guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend than John Lennon to me.
      I feel.a much better choice for it would've been former 'Inspector George Gently' star Lee Ingleby (who played the hotheaded DS John Bachus), not only because he was only thirty six at the time (and so he was in the right age range), but also because with his sharp features and in a Sixties wig with false sideburns on, he actually looked a lot like Lennon in his Beatlemania days.
      Ingleby is also a very versatile actor, who can change his looks, accent and personality to portray whatever the role requires whenever it is needed
      However, for some bizarre reason, the casting director for the 2010 BBC4 TV drama 'Lennon Naked' went and chose Eccleston for it instead. So that was definitely a missed opportunity there, as far as I'm concerned.
