Gasoline (Petrol) vs Diesel: Which one is better? A Beginner’s Guide

  • Gasoline (petrol) and diesel are extracted from the same raw material - crude oil-and pass through various levels of refinement. Yet, they have different thermal characteristics, making them suitable for very different purposes. For example, diesel has a higher density than gasoline, which makes it more energy-intensive. Due to this, less diesel is required to produce the same energy output as gasoline. Similarly, diesel engines are bulky, and typically consist of longer piston strokes, so they can’t reach high RPMs without incurring a lot of mechanical strain. This causes a loss in the total power output, although diesel's benefit from the tremendous torque that is generally lacking in gasoline engines.
    In this video, we compare a number of features of diesel and gasoline engines to look at which fuel is better, or in other words, is there really a better fuel?

    "...fealty to gasoline and diesel..." Usually fossil fuel users are called greedy, enslaved or addicted. I want to move to alternative fuels but the technology is still unattainable for most of the world. I don't like this kind of shaming language. If you want to sell your ideas, sell them! Don't go shaming people for using the only viable energy source they can afford because renewable energy is still making baby steps in other countries.
    I'm currently teaching my students about renewable energy and the last thing I want to do is call their poor parents as greedy, enslaved fossil fuel addicts. My students' awareness of renewable energy is through the popularity of the Tesla brand, e-bikes and the rising number of people using solar wall lights for security. I told my students that in 10 years they could living in a new age of renewable energy but don't scoff at the fossil fuel vehicle that their parents used to toil their land with and provide for their future.
    We use what we have and at the moment it's still fossil fuel. If renewable energy is cheaper and more readily available then people would gladly move to it. Just like how people easily embrace smartphones over cellphones: new ideas need be accepted in order to grow, not forced down your throat.

    5:25 here is contrary. Older engines have better reliability. New engines are made on purpose to break after 150k - 200k at that spot when the warranty ends. Because consumerism. My 1.9 ALH VW Golf, still the best, changed only consumables.

    • @yudiwahyudin6644
      @yudiwahyudin6644 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree ...
      Indirect and direct injection diesel has more reliability. Cheap maintenance and if tuned properly it can perform like CRDi and as i know. 74-84hp indirect 2.5L N.A more stronger than 105hp 2.5L CRDi with 2T load on uphill. The old one just adjusting fuel timing and adding 1lt gasoline /20lt diesel.
      And indirect can run with waste engine oil, but must refine/filtered before. WMO price 3$/20L and just add 1lt gasoline/20L oil. It will be fine.
      love old diesel.. 😁😁

    ❌ The narrator had a nice voice, and the animator was certainly skilled, but the video was too fast and too confusing. It was over animated. I kept getting distracted by the dialogue, the antics and the expressions of all the characters. When you’re trying to learn something new, you need to be focused, not distracted. A few illustrations are great, but when there’s too much going on, it defeats the purpose and backfires. I also completely missed the point of the two street fighters getting beaten up (by an alien?) at the end. The narrator was also speaking a little too fast. You covered some really excellent material and I learned a lot, but I had to watch it twice to do so. Simple is best!
