A brilliant flash across the sky, then it's gone! Such is the sad story of Sly Stone. I've loved him and his music for well over fifty years, and it was a damn shame to see him fall so far, so fast. But, there's a moral to the story kids: don't do drugs! ! Get well Sly, there's a lot of great music that's yet to be written, and you're the man!

Sly had been through many things . i couldn't understand most of them because I was young . My family would play so much music in the house . they were 15 years older than me , so I grew up on old music . It was wonderful , Sly was a musical genius .

This man made FUNK a acceptable Music Form when it was not in the beginning. We use a scale not known to white people for so long only to be revealed in the 1920s on the east coast. We all knew this scale and by the 1960s it was time to bend it and flip it over to stir up some sexual sparks because we as a people were begining to be united. By 1979 it stopped. Thats when we lost our youth and we temporarry lost Sly. This is a outstanding post and I thank you North Sea Jazz for loading it up for us older folks.

Sly and the Family Stone was definitely one of the greatest groups in 69-70 or so time span. I was a freshman in college and spent hours listening to his albums. Some years later my wife and I went to a concert at the Forum to hear them. Unfortunately he wasn’t there when the band finally came out. They had to jam for about 30-40 mins until he arrived and stumbled out on stage. He could barely make it out and mumbled through about 1 1/2 songs before saying “f-k y’all and walked off stage. The band was jamming that night but I was so disappointed in not seeing the real Sly that I never went to see the group again, even though I still bought their records. It is nice he is still around but apparently his habit of showing up late is still happening (hopefully it is not due to drugs). Still a legend anyway.
Man... seeing him come out brought a tear to my eye. Made my heart feel good. He was the man. Back in the day he kicked ass, nobody like him. Unfortunately life got in the way. But I gotta remember he always brought a smile to my face and got me up shaking it.
Love seeing so many younger people getting into it. When the music is great don't matter what generation it is. They're just every day people, dancing to the music, letting me be myself, and wanna get higher....go for it !!!!
