I'm 65 yo...I loved Sly back in the day...he was on the cutting edge...and we're better off for it...blurring all lines...he was more than his music.
I grew up among the Red Neck Rockers (much younger than they), Willie, Bridger, Jerry Jeff, Fromholtz and I were discussing the times in the business and I snarked about Prince. They were all about to dog pile and whip my ass. Fromholtz said, "You're too damn talented, Darly, to not like Sly Stone and I bet Prince can whip your ass on all them damn instruments you play!" I asked Steven for claw hammer banjo lessons at that point and ended up taking my mandolin on a river raft Six Flags excursion on the Shoshone River (Category 3 white water, easy peasy) . It's always about the music, and that means getting the message grooving with the river.

Sly performed in Paterson NJ in the late 60s me and my brother and some friends from the projects (grand st) project. Drove a white El d out of a u haul truck 2 hours late that changed my life, thank you for letting me be myself sly and the family stone! Woodstock had 200,000 people, summer jam at Watkins Glenn in 1973 had 600,000, I was there.
They failed to mention all of his “no-shows”, because he was so drugged out. Still, I loved his music and saw them perform at numerous venues in the SF Bay Area back in the 60’s. So much fun to watch!

At the age of 15 I walked into a movie theater and saw Woodstock for the first time. I could not believe the sly and the family stones at Woodstock They tore it up. You hear me? I mean, They tore it up.

Larry gave a great show at my college in Orlando in 1977. His bass was a WMD. Bigass. Great music. His encore ballard brought many in the crowd to tears.
I feel so bad for sly when I hear this. I was a big fan of his and 6869 in high school hot fun in the summertime. I wanna thank you just a great-great-great great artist man. It's so sad to hear this I pray for his family. I don't know if he's still alive or not but I pray for him and his family. God bless
