    Great subject Doc, we call the blue threadlock, and the red studlock. I clean the threads with solvent and dry off before applying. I have noticed that fasteners included with Harley accessories often have threadlocker already applied. What I would say is that cleaning and detailing your bike is a good time to check for any loose fasteners.

    Blue is the only way to go compensating nut , finger nail polish clear on all the others . Red locktight has to reach 300 to 400 F to get soft . That is cherry red . I clean everything with mineral spirits and acetone apply blue .

    Hi Doc
    Can you please tell about fixing stripped treads under transmission oil pan of 07 heritage. Previous owner somehow damaged and I am dealing with this trouble.
    Appreciate it.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is one of the hardest repairs. As you know the position sucks. Removing shocks can give you more room. Whatever your choice of thread repair, it has to end below surface for the o-ring. Or even and use Teflon tape and plastic washer. Since winter is coming, you might have the transmission case removed, bring it to a machine shop to be welded up and retap.
      Possibly remove shock. Install a time-sert.

    • @DanielRyanScott
      @DanielRyanScott 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends, newer service manuals, 2013+ I think, dont have it as a section but have it in the respective service that is being done. It also has a Torqe list for ALL fasteners.

    Hello Sir...I liked your Keep It Tight video. I have a question I hope you have time to answer about my positive battery cable. My battery nut keeps loosening from vibration. I can use a lock washer but I was wondering if it was ok to use loctite on the screw to the battery terminal. Hopefully, all is well with you and you still check this account. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson

    • @iammine512

    Hard to find the 262 red around my area. Everyone carries the 271 red though, but that's for larger fasteners than we don't deal with on our scooters. I have to get my 262 from Amazon. Thanks for the info Doc.

    Use to always have blue, last time went to the store they didn't have loctite, had some other brand, read carefully because it is red that is to replace loctite blue
    Next time in Lexington found loctite.
    Never used red, never got into places that require it
    Never seen purple, but that would be handy dandy for derby covers....... I'll have to search the amazon, or next time in Lexington check at the hd store

    1'58", "there's air in between those threads, this seals it..... 242 is an anaerobic thread locker. That is to say it sets, or seals, in the absence of air. As long as air is present it won't dry.

    • @DanielRyanScott
      @DanielRyanScott 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think he meant that without the locktight there is air/gaps that moister can get in and the locktight seals that gap.
