Great video. I appreciate your spirit of teaching. I absolutely LOVE working on my own vehicles. My Harley is very new to me but I am excited to learn. All your videos are well done and helpful. Thanks, Doc!
Great video! New to bikes, and am excited to try and fix things/work on things on my own, but it’s difficult to do that when nobody I know already knows how to work on bikes 😂 this video helped me figure out what I was missing from my toolbox.
My assortment of roto head ratchets are my most used @ home & work, my favorite is 1/4" size with 3/8" anvil. Unfortunately Harley dropped the smaller fender cover from the assecories
I have found that a parts manual in addition to the service manual is very helpful. Not only you have parts numbers but you have a example of the parts layout.
Great video Doc! I like the tool cart that you use I think I might get me one for my garage. I think I have most of those tools that I seen in your cart plus other special tools for Harley-Davidson from Jim’s Tools. The manual very important, I like having all three manuals. 1) The basic manual 2) Electrical manual 3) Parts manual The parts manual is very useful it has great parts breakdown views and all of the part numbers (P/N). Look up and write down your own P/N’s before you go to your dealer for parts helps speed things up at the parts counter just make your sure you got the correct P/N for your model from the manual, the manual probably covers several models. If the P/N has been superseded the person at the parts counter will know it. I also have two bike lifts (Dunwell) and several Snap-On torque wrench’s. 🤔 Now if I could only get more room in my garage!

Hi doc. What's your thoughts on depinning tools. I'm thinking about buying a electrical depinning tool kit. I seen a video and it looks so easy to remove the wires thanks for your time. Steve Monroe
A “kit” of tools usually covers automotive connectors. And they usually work well with older ( pre 2014) models. The newer the bike the smaller the pins. You only need a few factory supplied tools, the rest you can make with patience….Doc

Is there a specific brand for tools that you go to? I am rebuilding my 2001 Sportster 883 appearance wise, then I may start on the internal cylinder problems. I have not decided yet. I either have to put trust into a repair place that rebuilds “vintage Harley-Davidson”, or do the work myself. A service manual for a 2001 883 is now my next purchase. I will be returning to your various videos.

Hi Doc, I have always purchased the service manual when i get a new bike. This year however, I purchased a new 2022 lrs, and appears harley isnt selling paper service manuals anymore?
Hello Doc; I just buy a Harley Ultra Limited, I will like to install several accessories and because of that I will like to purchase one or two torque wrenches to do the correct job, my question is, what size do you recommend me to buy this tools?, I'm talking about the parameter in ft/pound and in/pound, Thanks for your help!
This is really your choice. Budget has a lot to do with it. Torque wrenches are expensive. I have 5 year old electronic 3/8 drive ft/lb and they have improved greatly since then. I enjoy my mechanical 1/4 drive inch/pound. I have developed a "feel" with it. I can't recommend cheap tools because this is very important to be good....Doc

Hey Doc , quick question here. Over the last twenty years I have had numerous front tires replace. Every time they used the same hex nuts and left the original studs in the lower fork leg that holds the axle cap on. I would like to replace those studs. Hey Doc, what size brass drift do you recommend to punch the rear axle out on a touring bike? Should it be small enough to fit in the axle end detent, or a larger one that covers more of the axle end?
There are a lot of great tools on the market that won't break the bank. Stay off the tool trucks and look for brands like Tekton, Gear Wrench and Kincrome (if you are in Australia or the UK). Even the Harbor Freight Icon tools are good. For screwdrivers the German brands Witte and Wiha are the best.
