  • Join us as we sew the the Tamarack Jacket! We originally released the Tamarack Jacket back in 2016 and it has now been drafted in our 14-30 size range. We've also released a collar, hood & patch pockets add-on to help you create the quilted jacket of your dreams.
During this series we'll cover all aspects involved in creating your own Tamarack Jacket. From fabric selection, help with batting, to quilting best practices and assembly, we're covering everything!
In today's lesson we're making our bias binding. Learn the difference between single and double fold binding, the two most common methods for making your own bias binding, the strip and continuous methods, and which one might be right for you. After that we'll talk about folding your bias strips into bias binding. Whether you're making the Tamarack or just looking for a tutorial on bias binding, this video is for you!
You can purchase the Tamarack Jacket pattern as well as the Collar, Hood & Patch Pockets Add-On on our website here: grainlinestudio.com/collectio...

The 2nd method was really well demonstrated. I learned some new thing here for both methods. Thank you.

The 2nd method is new to me and looks so easy. Will give that a try. Thanks for the terrific demo! 💕

It really is and if you have enough fabric to cut a square you can get a lot of bias yardage pretty quickly!

I used the 2nd method for continuous bias tape method over 10 years ago. I really needed this refresher to remember and I will need to practice.

The first time I tried the continuous method was back before I went to college for patterns / sewing and I found the method absolutely maddening. It was the Reader's Digest Guide to Sewing if I remember correctly and they didn't take into account the seam allowances when sewing the second seam. None of my lines matched and I swore I was never doing that again. Oof! Much easier the next time I tried it with pattern making knowledge hahaha!

Did you press seam open or flat or even press after first seam on second method? Thanks.

Please could you tell what size bias maker you are using. I have the pattern and all it says is to use 1/2 inch bias binding. Thanks.

Yep! I'm using a 1" bias tape maker which creates either 1" single fold bias tape or 1/2" double fold bias tape.

We recommend getting a half yard extra for binding
