Hi Sandie. The brekky and room are good here. The owners of the guesthouse just came to my room with the family say hello as I have stayed here quite regularly over the years. And yes, we're on our way, I'm really excited to be moving again.
Gday Wayne, been to Bali many time but never done the islands, will look into it next trip in Feb. love the new channel mate really different perspective and that you speak a lot of Bahasa. What’s your background mate, first time in Bali what draws you there etc. keep them coming mate absolute breath of fresh air cheers Rob from Gero
Hi Rob from gero. :). Thanks. First time to Bali in 1985. Been traveling and living in the region in India, Nepal, Indo etc a bit. I'm drawn by the ease and attitude toward living, the cost of living, low stress... Background in publishing/advertising but didn't think much of it. Not driven at all by accumulation of wealth... Cheers.
Ah, the delights of the warungs along the front at Padangbai, the semi-organised chaos of the pier, The Golden Queen boats . . . then (for us) Candidasa and the golden sands of the Gilis. You might struggle for bemos going north, but bikes can be lethal in the wet - and it is, after all, the rainy season!
Hi Kevin. i think it was The Golden Queen I used last time as well. i'm a little disappointed at not riding around Bali on a bike again, it's such a joy. Padangbai is a great little port, I think.
When I went from Gilimanuk to Java omg this thing took cars trucks and people. The first thing we said once one was christ the rust is what is holding this thing together. On the way back the Captain let my son who was about 3 steer the ferry I have beautiful photos of him with the captains hat on.
Bemos are a good option Wayne. Only, make sure you get one with ultra dark window tinting and the cassette deck only plays 'The Best of Scorpion ' for that authentic 80s experience. 😉
well wouldnt you know it.. i really enjoy watching your perspective.. and i have learned i had my own issues with how i see things.. i really love bali. . and i relate .. have a great time
Don't worry about not being on a bike, sit back, relax and take it all in. I tend see more when when I'm not concentrating on road conditions and traffic.
Good to see a bit of Padangbai again. Next to . where the fish was being grilled is where I filmed my Jukung [double outrigger canoe] being built. Opposite is the 'Talk of the Town' cafe, and worth a visit. If you do say hello to Kadek, the owner, from Steve. The Jukung docos are on my you tube channel steveroperfilms. Cheers. ps. There's a regular Bemo service from Padangbai to Candidasa.
Selemat Malam, Baik sekali. I was always shocked I made it riding in a rust bucket from Timor to Roti & beyond. Keep going! What's the hurry? Going back 2 work?
Hi Wayne, I've not been on a scooter for yrs,for similar reasons as you mentioned.although I would consider riding out of town where there is little traffic.
So glad you didn't hire a bike. I'd go by foot and bemo too, so slow travel is more relevant to me and a lot of others I imagine, awesome start to your journey
Hope you're gonna try the pepes before you leave padangbai as it's delicious! Couple of words you might use when wondering about and people ask mau ke mana. You can reply makan angin= eating wind or cucui mata = washing eyes. Both are taken to mean that you are just out and about checking things out
and yeah your right. although i tried to always pay people a fair price.. i still took the cheapness and also yes i got absolutely mauled before of people asking me for money every day,, and i got really tired of it,, some people even got mad at me .. i had to learn alot .. but bali has a specail place in my heart
A bike in the rainy season can be a pain. I just got a good quality cape which covered everything which meant i can keep going no matret what and always have a set of dry clothes and a towel under the seat. You really cant beat a bike for getting around Bali. Accidents must be avoided at all costs, youre bang on about local attitudes. I always find it frustrating the lack of fish in Bali considering its an island. Thai islands are considerably better for that.
Maybe a good thing to back off the bike option considering the time of year and road conditions so just a more slower and laid back but just as interesting few weeks. Safe travels.
Good move not to ride the bike. I’ve seen too many serious road accidents in Bali. Visited there years ago and found some fabulous gamelan musicians rehearsing in one of the back streets.
Looking forward to a walk through the backstreets tomorrow and now I'm excited, Marisa. Yes, what's the point of growing older if we're not going to be a little smarter. :)
Stayed at Bloo lagoon up the hill wonderful views. Pity those boats pollute what would probably be one of the most naturally beautiful bays in Bali. crying shame.
Correcting you, respectfully: She did say "Cucu, enam".... Cucu, in Bahasa Indo / Malay = grandchild(ren). Easily misheard for 'Tujuh enam' fersure.... :D :D
Good to see you got there safe Wayne. I didn't like the colour of that poncho your bought. Need bright colours if you are out especially on a bike. You look almost the same as that bloke on your other channel.
No shame in not riding staying safe is more important, you're looking chilled buddy great stuff enjoy the adventure, cheers
Cheers Craig. It feels good to be out and about.
Woohoo you're off and running! Very enjoyable Wayne. Wow the room and brekky looked great. See you on the next video

Nice room Wayne the area is, so different to the tourist area,
Keep well. Thankyou.
Hi Margaret. it is a lovely place to stay. Thank you.
Really enjoying this new format Wayne
Thanks, itskolis. I have to admit just doing a walk and talk is really enjoyable - not thinking too much. :) Appreciate you taking the time to say.

That's a great memory for you and son, Jos.

I'm so glad for types of followers i've got. Hilarious. just as I remember the bemos from the 80s.

That's a pretty good point, Brenton. Cheers.

Appreciate the info on Bemos, Steve. The outrigger sounds like a great project.

Good times. I have to admit being next to the ferries is giving me the urge to head east. :)
Hi Wayne, I've not been on a scooter for yrs,for similar reasons as you mentioned.although I would consider riding out of town where there is little traffic.
Hi David. maybe it's age, wisdom, fear...whatever, I feel better for not doing it.
I had a compass tattooed on my...... It used to maintain a North heading, but now it just constantly stays South.
Ha! there's medication to get you "traveling" again. :)
So glad you didn't hire a bike. I'd go by foot and bemo too, so slow travel is more relevant to me and a lot of others I imagine, awesome start to your journey
Hey, Jen. Just want to acknowledge your ongoing support of the channels. thank you.
Good work Mate, I think you should brand that hat and sell it as merch - very cool 👍🙂
Found it in the the bottom of the wardrobe when home recently and forgot I had it. Good idea with the merch. :)
Cheers again Wayne always interesting either channel . Are you heading to Amed ?
Hi Paul. Amed was in the original plan but being around these ferries makes me want to head east out into Eastern Indonesia. :)
ikan pepes - my favourite Balinese dish
Hi Ron. A few have said that now which means I have to try it tomorrow.
The old saying is if the Falung wasn’t here , the accident wouldn’t have happened
That's it, Peter.

Ha! I'm going to have to start paying you soon, Daniel. thank you. i will try the pepes.

It can get tiresome but over time I find you just reset a bit and let it go.
@@WCMoss yes true,, letting go is good in many ways in life im learning
I never go anywhere other than a bike, rain hail or shine....it's called laziness....
Ha! many of us relate to the lazy aspect, I think.

I'm envious of you if you're getting around on a bike yourself, rb. I love touring Southeast Asia on a bike but this time it just didn't feel right.
@WCMoss If it didn't feel right then you made the right choice. Always follow inner convictions, they're rarely wrong. Stay safe.
Maybe a good thing to back off the bike option considering the time of year and road conditions so just a more slower and laid back but just as interesting few weeks. Safe travels.
Cheers Ron. I kinda agree. Thanks.

One could imagine what the bay looked like with just a few local prahu in the water.
2:44 I think she said tujuh enam! As in 76, but that couldn't be correct 😅
Correcting you, respectfully: She did say "Cucu, enam".... Cucu, in Bahasa Indo / Malay = grandchild(ren). Easily misheard for 'Tujuh enam' fersure.... :D :D
@razbakar7889 ah thanks. I thought that was weird. Yes, cucu. That makes sense.
The rainy season is definitely here now, it is probably a good idea to ditch the bike and go by various mobile.
Yea, just had that feeling. Sometimes best to listen to our instincts.
Do you know what that big concrete building is going to be?, looks out of place
Looks awful, doesn't it? I don't know what it will be - I'll ask tomorrow if I remember.
ᴋᴇʀᴇɴ 👍.
Thanks

They reckon we look a bit similar. i reckon the other guy is a bit slow.

Hi Wayne, you mentioned about Timor island, have you been to Timor before?
Hi Ystari, Yes, Ive been to Timor a couple of times as well as Rote.
@WCMoss Oh wow great. Enjoy and be safe on your trip 😊
